Needed a car for a few days when I was in the San Diego area. Customer Service was good and the car worked out just fine for my needs. Nothing fancy but got me from "A to B".

Extremely old cars! Car body paint is already fading from the sun! Very poor customer service. Misleading techniques where they offer a cheap car and then is not ready or another customer just drove it away. Overall really unsatisfactory.

I was visiting San Diego for an extended period of time and found Renty to be the perfect place for my needs. They offered a wide range of cars with exceptional rates on monthly rentals. Next time I am in San Diego and need a car I am calling Renty! Thanks again guys!!

Here is how it went down:

Quoted me prices for cars that are not available (and to my knowledge with them for several months never are available).

Took them 3 hours to come get me with their pickup service and another 1.5 to book me and get me out the door. Needless to say I had to cancel my appointments for that day to go out to El Centro.

Car #1 had a severe problem and stopped while running. I don't want to reveal what it is since that would reveal who I am to the company but I never knew this typeof problem was possible with a car

Was without a car for 1 day while they fixed the problem and brought back the same car the next day. I traded it for another car since I felt #1 was massively a clunker.

Car #2 stopped running in the middle of the freeway. I called it in and the owner told me he had reported the car stolen since my payment was not received yet. I mentioned I had spoken to his employee that morning and thought the payment was taken care of. The owner wanted to call the cops to come get the car but then thought twice about it and ackowledged that the cops might arrest me as I thought would probably occur. He indicated that it is customary for the company to report the car stolen when payment is late and that they did not tend to press charges as they wanted customers to come back and rent from them again some time. I told him the payment was clear as per his employee as of that morning and he started to feel a bit bad about treating me that way I think. Which I can respect at least that.

However, I was in fear of being arrested at this point. So I called tow trucks and spent maybe 2 hours of my time arranging a tow for the owner, waiting with the car so that it was not towd for being illegally parked, etc. Car #2 was not replaced and no contact was made with me for a few days. When it was made, the owner demanded that the cars were not allowed out of San Diego county. I mentioned that Renty had known I went to El Centro with the cars because I had been on my way there the day of the 1st rental and had discussed with the employees the milage and weather it would cover the trips. Then I received a call back insisting my insurance was expired which it was not. Then they accused me of doing something abusive to the car to cause the problems. I told them (truthfully) that I had not yet they seemed to insist on that and continued to talk to me under the assumption of my being abusive to their car.

I had thought the owner was maybe going to press charges on his Grand Theft Auto thing if I did not rent from them again and when I determined that that was not the case I opted to stop renting from them. However, while thinking that I might have to continue renting from them, I asked them to hold a japanese car for me - a reliable one that would not break down. The employee agreed to do so and I waited for it. The owner rented it to someone else while I was waiting for it.

At this point, I had aksed if all their customers had problems like Id had and the employee said no. I asked why, then, was I not being given first choice of the cars and so forth. The employee seemed to get what I was saying and tried to work with me but could not within the confines of what the company would allow him to do. I kinda think that maybe all thier customers had similar problems cause I was there one day and this one guy was so upset about the car being broken. So maybe that is it. Maybe this is just how it goes there and my problems are not out of the ordinary so no extra effort would be made since everyone else is in the same boat.

That said, some of their employees are very nice and I did not feel they set out to defraud me or something but that their business practices were so poor and customer service so - frankly - weird that I did not trust them with my life which is what I had been doing by renting from them. When the owner was well-disposed toward me at certain points, he was a nice guy. But I just am actually scared to rent from them. And I don't scare easily.
