LA Palapa Del-Mar is fun and romantic!
by Susan W.
My friends and I drive here from Palos Verdes for the great music, great drinks and fun atmosphere. There's always a different crowd with a different vibe each time we come. My husband and I love to dance, and the music is (mostly) very danceable. We don't usually have dinner here because we mainly come for the music, but the times we've eaten the food has been very good. My husband and I stopped for lunch on the patio one day when we were biking--very good food and glorious ocean view!

We have been here numerous times and we always have a great time. The food is very good and they make a great Mojito! There is great energy in the bar area with live music and dancing. We tend to come with large groups and seating never seems to be a problem for us.

This restaurant is fusion of American meets South American and Cuban food. Very Good! Prices are great. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are in South America. The service is super friendly. They also have live music. We heard a flamenco fusion band. Great talent. Afterwards you are further rewarded by walking right onto the sand for a beach stroll. So romantic! I would recommend to everyone.

Great view, atmosphere & SOME good food
by CSMobileUser
LOVE the view, great service (they'll bring you out Mexican blankets to wrap up in if it's cold!) and their nachos, empanadas (Not the goat cheese ones) are great and the other reviewer who sao their ceviche was bad is an anomaly; it's the best I've ever had & all my friends agree. But I'd say other than their appetizers, the test of their food is mediocre & pricey. But a great place to go for a drink and a snack on the beach. And their live music is usually pretty good tho sometimes too loud.

La Palapa has the worst food EVER!!! ordered Ceviche and sent it back. It tasted like cheese that had been sitting in the sun all day. We would have been better off eating at burger king. the food was pricey and not worth it. save your money and eat at Super Mex instead - around the corner on 2nd street. maybe if you are unaware what mexican food tastes like you would like it, but i'm not interested in eating watery beans and yellow rice from a box. i thought to myself, "how can you mess up chicken enchiladas?" now i know, la palapa can. oh and even the chips tasted bad. bring a bag of tostitos instead.
you have a nice view of the beach and friendly service but that doesn't make up for the worst food in long beach.
Seriously!! Gross!
Pros: Waiters will take food back.
Cons: Everything else.

Awesome food and atmosphere!

Everything I have ordered here has been amazing from the raspberry mojitos to the shrimp quesadillas. The view is amazing, the live music is decent and the service is excellent. One of my favorite restuarants in Long Beach!

Best place to have a wedding/reception
by sndybabe
This was an awesome place to have a wedding. My son and his wife got married on the beach in front of the patio. Elizabeth and Bear and their staff took care of everything. It was beautiful. The reception and dinner in the room above the restaurant was decorated and gorgeous. We had soooo many compliments on the food and the service and with the exception of the A/C not working as well as it should due to the city owning the building and not repairing it correctly, it went off without a hitch. If I had to give a rating from 1-10 they would get a 10 for sure. Thank you Bear and Elizabeth and staff for an outstanding wedding!!!!!!

AWESOME customer service
by maxxsmommie
Honestly this is the only place that my boyfriend and I have gone where we've tipped the waiter $40. The customer service there is amazing. You'd think with a place like this they would be rushing to get you out so more people can come in...you know the more people come in and out the more money they make, but NOPE. You can relax, drink your wonderful martini and listen to a live band all without being bothered a million times by your waiter. I love the vibe, the people there are so nice. The many times that we've gone, we've seen a couple of the same people. The food is WONDERFUL. You have a menu with many options and it's very reasonably priced. I took my little sister here when she came from Oregon and she raved about it to all her friends. AND the best thing is...you go out on the patio to get some fresh air and you're in the sand, it's amazing. Highly recommend going on a weekend and making reservations. You can enjoy a night out with the girls in the couch area or a romantic dinner with your honey with dancing included!
Pros: On the beach
Cons: Hard to find

Dissapointed

Not recommended. Save your money and go around the corner to the BBC for food or Yankee Doodles for drinks/music/fun/pool.
Pros: on the beach
Cons: expensive - weird vibe

Out-of-the-way Latin American Food
by BozzieBear
Unusually large variety of Spanish, Mexican and Latin entrees on the menu. We often take friends there and everyone has come away raving. I'm partial to their Mexican entrees, the Chicken Enchiladas in Ancho Sauce is a favorite.
Fun, lively atmosphere located right on the beach. Full bar and live music several nights a week. Maybe a stretch to call it romantic, but the window booths are private and cozy.
The restaurant is somewhat hard to find -- its in a corner of the huge Belmont Shore Olympic Swimming Pool building.
Pros: Food, Service, Live Music
Cons: Weekend parking, Hard to Find
