Zeke's Smokehouse Barbecue

Zeke's Smokehouse Barbecue is a lone star outside of Texas. They serve ribs (and other favorites) cooked as BBQ was intended - with smoke. These aren't yuppie style over-cooked, oven baked, fall off the bone, baby back pork ribs. These are Texas beef ribs for real men; ribs flavorful enough to eat without sauce. Rest assured that though the food is authentic, the dcor is clearly Californian. Zekes is clean, hip and they serve the ribs on plates rather than Texas style (on news paper). Highly recommended.

We come here pretty often with our two sons (8&11), and everyone finds something they like (not cheeseburgers or chicken fingers like most places). Service is usually helpful and pretty quick. Prices are reasonable (for this area). I'm from the South, and the materials are higher quality than there, but the taste does lack "soul." Still, this is southern California, and decent pulled pork is precious, so I come back.

Great place to get some good ribs. Would recommend it to anyone that likes ribs. Price was reasonable. Montrose is a small communtiy so it is nice to find a place where you can just hangout.

I'm convinced that one's appreciation for Zeke's comes from what is ordered--many things are just ok, some things are truly great. My husband and I always get the pulled pork and are never disappointed. We've tried everything else, from the ribs, the brisket, the meatloaf, the sausage, all of which had some merit, but we are now happily back at the the pulled pork.

The homemade applesauce, hush puppies, and especially the *sweet potato fries* with ranch are fabulous and make the experience for us. We've always ordered from our table so I'm not sure what the counter ordering complaint is about. We have always been treated very well and the owners are attentive and notice when patrons come back.

PROS: Pulled pork, sweet potato fries and great service.
CONS: Meatloaf.

Their claim to fame is the sauce but I don't think much of it. I would rather take my own. This is not the best restaurant in Montrose. Their ribs are hard and their pulled pork sandwich could be excellent if they had a hearty, thick, smokey or sweet barbeque sauce. I also do not like having to stand up at the counter to order. That detracts from the dining experience.

PROS: Quick and convenient.
CONS: Bad sauces and not outstanding cole slaw.

I went last night with my husband and 2 sons. I ordered the texas beef brisket with collard greenson the side! It was awsome there texas toast was great.My husband ordered the same but with kettle chips (which they make by the way!) They were great . My son got a hot dog - what can I say he's 7 years old. And of coarse kettle chips aswell. My other son is newborn and didn't eat. The customer service was quite good as well. Everyone was freindly and seemed to go out of there way for the customers not alot of places offer that kind of service anymore you know? I will definitly be back!

CONS: Not more locations

This place has very good barbeque food. They give you three different selections of sauce that you can choose from to further diversify your eating experience there. My family always goes and orders their family feast, which gives a great selection of different types of meat and it satisfies all of our hunger needs.

I ate here after seeing that they sponsored a baseball team in my nephew's league. The food was a little unimpresive. I had the baby back ribs and honestly, the ribs at Claim Jumper were much better. They were tougher than I expected and, honestly, not that great. The food arrived almost immediately, and the restaurant had the feel of a high end fast food joint.

PROS: They spnsor a t-ball team
CONS: I expected more

Zeke's is pretty good. The beans are outstanding, but the portions are TINY. $25 for a rack of ribs, and a mouthful of beans? Come on! IMHO, and the ribs are good, or maybe very good. The collard greens have been tough and cold the past couple of times -- serve spinach instead, maybe? It's easier!
