I'm not sure

by e m.

I'm not sure about this place. I thought they'd be great when I took in my chow who was very ill and had to have a hysterectomy. A few months later I took her and my cat in to be seen. After the surgery my dog gained a lot of weight. My cat was very, very skinny despite having a good appetite. I didn't get any answers or explanations from them except that their blood work was fine. About a year later, I learned that my cat had a severe kidney problem which eventually claimed his life. Another time I took my other cat to be seen due to some "episodes" he was having and to get a check up because he was older. The vet said he had an enlarged heart and made it sound like he would die that same night if I didn't leave him there. I told him I'd prefer to see the vet who specialized in cardiology the next day. When I went to see her I didn't get any clear answers but she certainly didn't make it sound like he was on the verge of death. Long story short, my baby lived on for at least another year and a half. So...I don't think I'll be going back to this place. Maybe because they are an emergency center, they automatically jump to worst case scenario.

Kind Caring in a Difficult Situation

by Linda E.

Things did not turn out well for our very sick kitty, but the vets and staff at Pet Emergency were kind and caring in helping him, and me. Thank goodness they were there, on a Sunday morning.

By the way, the map on this site (at least at this moment) is incorrect. This vet office is just south of I-8, between the freeway and Grossmont Blvd. in a small plaza called "Jackson Square" on the west side of Jackson Drive. The map is showing an old freeway off-ramp there, which was taken out years ago.

Freak Accidents

by Kathleen J.

My dog Jake has had two freak accidents in the past 3 months that have left him hospitalized. The first time we went to our reg vet for care and after 4 hours of waiting for just an Xray, they said he had a collapsed lung and transferred to Pet Emergency in La Mesa at the edge of death. From the moment we walked in their door we were impressed with the facilties and knew Jake would be well cared for, and they saved his life.

Testament to that fact that he was SO well cared for there the first time ... this week, Jake had another freak accident playing with a stick and I took him straight back to Pet Emergency. Not only did they IMMEDIATELY have him evaluated, Jake had NO issues at all walking out of our hands and to back room with them, that says SO much. He had a serious injury. Not only was he well cared for, were we too.

Hats off to all the fine folks that work at this location 24 hours a day. You will not regret taking your animals there for love and emergency care. We found the cost for care here was the same as the vet's office for the same emergency situation.

Dr. Rosenberg is the greatest!!

by Linda B.

I took my little finch in thinking she would have to be put to sleep due to a badly broken leg. Dr. Rosenberg fixed her up, gave her a shot of antibiotics and charged me VERY little. I was moved to tears and my grandson called it a miracle. I agree! There aren't enough people in this world like the staff of Pet Emergency & Specialty Center. God bless you!
I have already recommended them and sent emails to everyone I know that this is the place when the need arises.

Glad they're close by!

by Sophie C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,602

I had to bring my dog to the emergency vet one night very late, and staff was very quick to help get my dog treatment - they were friendly and patient, and calming. The people who work there are pretty nice and experienced. Prices are not as bad as you would think for an emergency vet!

PROS: close, friendly, good service
CONS:

Peace of Mind in a Stressful Situation

by Paula C. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,087

I have been to this Emergency Center three times, unfortunately...but every time I know that I am getting the best service and the best help for my pets. I recently had to visit and I was greated courteosly and my pet was seen immediately.

Unfortunately because you are dealing with an Emergency Center, and if you need it after your Vet has closed, it is pretty expensive. But if it's your pet, it is well worth it.

PROS: Peace of mind that my pet will be taken care of.
CONS: Expensive.
