Wonderful store!

by Paula N.

The Zoo Pet Store in Mission Viejo, CA is wonderful! The staff is caring and attentive, the pets are healthy and well-cared for, and they have a large selection of pet products with competitive prices.

Great service!!

by shannon c.

We love this pet store! We got our puppy there 7 months ago. He`s been the best dog! The owner and workers are very personable and friendly! we bring in our dog all the time to play with the other dogs. The first vet visit is free, everything is legit. AWESOME vet by the way!! Would definately buy from there again!!! Highly recommend!

the bad reviews are soooo wrong!

by Anthony N.

first of all, i have two dogs that i bought from the zoo and they are 100% healthy. they are not overpriced! i got my dogs on sale for only $700. you just need to wait for the sale people!! not that hard! we were looking at breeders and they trie to sell us a dog of about $1300!!!! some people probably said that the store reaked. THE STORE DID NOT REAK!!! where did u get that from?!?! the dogs looked all healthy and there cage was totally cleaned! yes there was a few peices of droppings but they clean that a.s.a.p. its not like they leave the cage dirty on purpouse?!?! the staff was really nice and they were the reason that we bought are dogs. i especially like the owner! they were sweet and generous and knew practically everything. i have, also, a 45 gallon tank with a bunch of beautiful long living fish. when i went to the zoo to shop 4 fish, the guy that was in the room was really really nice. i knew i can trust him and thats why i bought most of my fish there. i bought some beautiful angel fish there about 6 months ago and theyre fully active and healthy. the angel fish was the same price as those at petco. i also come to the zoo to look at the reptiles. they look healthy and totally fun to buy. thats why im looking forward to buying one at the zoo. when i grow up, the first job i am looking forward to is the zoo. i want to be apart of the fun hardworking staff and having a good time at the same time. i want to be a zoologist when i grow up so i think if i work at the zoo, it would increase my chances. thank you for reading this and have a good day! :D

Worst Pet Store in the O.C.

by Kim S.

I bought a dog there 5 years ago and so had every sickness in the book from puppy strangles, to the life long problems of hip dysplaysia and iretable bowel disease. Even if you are aware of the dogs problems in week one after you buy it the store refuses to do anything to help except kill the dog and give you another one. I went in there again recently and nothing has changed, the store REAKED and is as overpriced as ever also all there inexperienced staff did was chat to each other. PLEASE GO TO A BREEDER youll regret it if you dont.

Overpriced and Inexperienced Staff

by Jenny K.

I first called the Zoo to see if they had any Parrotlets available. The boy who answered the phone told me that they had one green. I asked him if it was a male or female. He put me on hold for a minute and then told me that the bird was too young and that the breeder had not told them if it was a girl or boy. I asked him if it had any blue on it...he said yes (That means its a male). I then asked him how much the bird was and he said it would be $299!!!! Greens generally sell for about $150! The zoo was charging the price of a Blue or Yellow! I was hoping that the young man was mistaken so I decided to go to the store. The first thing I noticed was that the store reaked!!! They sell puppies there and you can tell that they do not clean the cages very often. The puppies also looked pretty sick. Anyway, I was able to see the parrotlet and it was a green male. However, it was not hand-tamed! If they were going to sell it for that price I would have expected a tamed and trained bird! I did not end up buying the bird but found one at $150 elsewhere.

Buy all of our pet food and supplies here

by Patty E.

The Zoo has chnged ownership but continues to be a great place to shop. Even if their prices are a little higher (how can they compete with those huge stores) you can't compare the service. I recently stopped at the new Petsmart in El Toro. I couldn't get anyone to help me so I put my selected items back and walked out. When you walk through the front door of The Zoo you are always greeted and offered assistance. We also get a free bag of food for our cats and dogs after a number of purchases. Love The Zoo.

Don't buy puppies at pet stores...

by margaret S. | insider Insider | Rank: 25,762

No responsible breeder would ever sell a puppy to a pet store. It is against every breed club's code of ethics. So, the puppies at pet stores come only from breeders who are either unethical, uneducated, or both. Of course, even by accident they will sometimes produce a good puppy, but supporting a system that is bad for dogs is a bad idea for pet lovers. I am sure the staff is nice, but they should not sell puppies!

They Are Wonderful!!

by Allison M. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,421

We got our dog at The Zoo 4 years ago, and she is so healthy . Many of my friends have purchased dogs from breeders and have had problems, but our dog has been wonderful. The Zoo is a little pricey, but they really take care of their animals. We have reccomended it to many people and no one has been unsatisfied yet. It is great place to get a dog.

Loved it!

by Chrissy A.

I love The Zoo Pet Store, i go there very frequently with my little brother and parents to look at /hold the puppies, there's always one that's my favorite! All the puppies are eyecatchers and anyone who says that this pet store has horrible service is wrong! The staff are always willing to help, although sometimes, yes, they do chat amongst eachother, it's a normal thing. I mean who wouldn't stop to chat among friends? They answer every question and they'll stop whatever they're doing to help you out. They will give you all their time if needed. The Zoo Pet Store also has a wide variety of puppies, kittens, reptiles, rabbits, birds, small animals, etc., if you might think a puppy your interested in isn't a purebred, just look at the papers, and if they are mixed then go to the pound and get a puppy. The puppies are almost always purebred though. All in all, The Zoo Pet Store is a great place to shop for your new pet and it's supplies.

The Zoo

by Phil B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,800

We bought Igor, our Pet Tortoise here, and the staff was extremely helpful. This was an xmas present for the kids, and they let Igor stay until xmas eve when we picked him up so we could suprise the kids.

We had some questions a few days later, and they were more than happy to take the time to answer them.

The prices are great and I highly recommend them!

BAD PRICES

by skye m. | insider Insider | Rank: 24,966

This pet shop is not the greatest. Everything is over priced. There is no uniformity and the service is horrible. When I went in an onld woman with a cane got stuck in the door and I had to help her and they were too busy chatting to notice. The dogs are not even all purebred and they charge over $600 for each one! You can get a mutt at the pound for $45! Not the place to go.

They have a pretty decent selection of fish and fish supplies for my tank so I like coming here to check out what kind of new stuff they have on stock. They also usually have a pretty decent selection of puppies, kittens, birds, and reptile's as well as supplies for them.
