In ShortExpect a semitropical, ultracasual place with tall drinks and no dress code (unless you count Hawaiian shirts, which are encouraged but not required). Popular with tourists, it's also a fave for bachelorette parties and rowdy brunch crowds. The all-purpose, Southern menu is heavy on seafood and barbecue items, many of which are served in stainless steel pails. Choices include shrimp, king crab, ribs, honey-roasted chicken and sides like coleslaw, fries and honey wheat bread.

I've been to Dick's place several times. I can't go four stars because the drinks are fairly overpriced. (I know, all the drinks downtown are overpriced. That's why I wouldn't give any of the places downtown more than four stars.)
Ok, back to Dick's. The atmosphere is great. People that go to Dick's are there to have a good time and that is generally what you get. If you are going to Dick's for the first time be ready to be seated at a big table with a bunch of people you don't know and having napkins wadded up and thrown at you.
Re the food, it's good. It's not great, but it's good. Better than I would normally expect in this type of setting. Dont' be an idiot, If you are looking for gourmet go down the street. This is a bar first and a restaurant second.
The service IS slow. Again, what do you expect? This place is always jammed with a couple hundred rowdy beer swilling napkin throwing revelers so getting a drink or a meal can take a while. Do your self a favor, order your drinks two at a time, or get off your lazy butt, walk to the bar and order one from the bartender. Half the fun of this place is getting up and mixing with the clientele anyway.
The food is good enough, the service is good enough, but the atmosphere absolutely makes up for both and allows me to give four stars.

I went to dicks last resort a few weeks ago and i have to say it can get rough for you if you are a guy.But its all fun and games. From getting insults to bad service but you do get good food. Parking is a bit of a hassle but if you like to experience a different restaurant scene check this one out.

i went to Dick's Last Resort for a co workers going away party. We had lunch there and it was good. The food was great but service was OK. They make rude comments and i though it would be fun/funny but they were dumb comments. Also they were not able to split the bill at the end so if you go there for a party with lots of people wanting to pay separately don't go there, it will be stressful. Also they don't have parking at the restaurant so you have to park in payed parking down the road.

The food is nothing to speak of and is overpriced, but the atmosphere is perfect for older teenagers and young adults. Staff is rude, but that is what the intended atmosphere is for. Going there with a group of ladies for lunch was not a great experience, however, they were crass and mildly offensive. Not my cup of tea but if you are looking for potty and sexual humor, then it might be yours.

I have been to this place hundreds of times and never ever been disappointed. Service is just what you expect (rude...but that's the whole point). Food is delicious and at a great value even for a downtown bar in San Diego, and the music rocks.
We keep going back after years....

I've been to Dicks's so many times I can't count anymore. The people are wonderful, food and drinks always great. The music around you sets the tone. For casual fun, go to this place. It's like kicking off your shoes, relaxing and having a great time.

If you don't know about this place and about the service you will be surprised and upset. They toss salt shakers to you and take other people napkins. But that's all part of the fun. You don't have to mind your manners and you get to meet everyone around you. The food is superb...

Dick's Last Resort is a place where you would get food, have a fight with the waiter, get napkins thrown at you by the waiter, and laugh about it. The restaurant is totally down-to-earth, and the atmosphere is chill-lax. The customers who go there are there to just have a good time/fight/laugh. There are also plenty of bachelorette parties that go on there, so be prepared for some drunken craziness.

I went to Dicks for a friends birthday and had a blast. If you''re stuck up or can't take a joke don't go to Dicks Last resort, but if your looking for a good, fun, crazy atmosphere then Dicks is your place. The food is good, and the servers are fun to be around. If you're visiting San Diego and want a fun night and not your typical restaurant, i recommend Dicks.

I went to Dick's, nothing like it in Europe I have to say. I found it very interesting, the waiters (male) were nice to me though, but to my guy friends, they gave them a hard time, but apparently my guy friends knew about this place so they threw food at the waiters. That was kinda funny. I suggest you see their video first, then decided if you want to go. The food though was good! Video link:

Dick's is known for the brazen attitudes of it's servers. They sit down at your table, give you a hard time, make jokes......The only problem is.....IT"S NOT FUNNY!!!!! The joke gets old in 30 seconds, but the servers don't stop. And forget about going back again....why submit yourself to that??
It's a shame too, the food is good, and the establishment is nice. Unfortunatly, what the proprietors fail to understand, is that people go out to relax and socialize. They don't need unecessary banter.

Dick's is a very average bar--by no means a bad place to hang, but not the most happening bar in SD. Drink prices are average, but the draft beer tastes really watered down. They occasionally have decent live music. The clientele is a pretty good mix of locals and tourists.

Located in the Gaslamp district, this is right in the heart of downtown San Diego. Because of the location, parking can be a hassle. This is a special sort of place where the waiters are almost purposefully rude to you. If you're looking for a classy place where you'll be treated really well, this is not where you want to be. If you like a little banter, and a little fun, then you're at the right spot! At the entrance they have a lobster tank where you can catch your own lobster. It's kind of tricky, like those machines where you pay a buck to try and grab a teddy bear with a claw that never quite closes all the way. But if you catch the lobster, they cook it for free! This is a fun place to go if you're in for an atypical night of dining.

The restaurant is an interesting find. This is a good place to go if your reservations got messed up because they always have room. The food is incredibly distict. Must try and the family is sure to love it.

Dicks Last Resort Resort Restaurant is exactly like its name. You should only go there as a last resort, but that is only because it will be so crowded. If your reservations at another place get messed up, then head on over to dick's because it is a crazy place.

if your looking for fun in the gaslamp than dicks is a great place with great food at a decent price. the drinks are made pretty well but if your not into a loud raucous atomsphere stay away this place is about college style sophmoric humor and i liked it but not a place id take my kids too go eat at

it was an okay restaurant. the thing that made it only three stars is the fact that almost everyone there was old and drinking plus the smokers. Thats just plain nasty!

This place is the best restaurant ever! They let you do anything, one time my dad and I had a contest to see who could get a balled up napkin onto this guys beer. I love this place, great times you will have there. I recommend this place to ayone new in San Diego.

Nice and Polite NOT ON YOUR LIFE! And I LOVED IT! These guys are good. Hecklers don't stand a chance. Visiting San Diego near the Convention Center or the New Stadium, This is a Must Stop By! A burger is a burger and Pizza is Pizza and a beer is a beer. To each his own but the atmosphere will stop you in your tracks. I tell everyone that is visiting SD, CAL, that they must visit the LAST RESORT!

So-So food, fun atmosphere, HORRENDOUS service!!

Okay, so I have been to Dick's a couple of times and I realize it's their "thing" to have rude servers and its all part of the atmosphere. But seriously, sometimes they really cross the line. First off, when our waiter gave us the bill for a party of 8 he kind of jokingly stated that he "deserved" a 20 dollar tip. Then I realized he hadn't charged me for my soup and I could have easily not paid for it but I believe in Karma so I notified him, at which point he said he could let it slip by if he got a 25 dollar tip. Okay, wtf. The soup was only 4 dollars!!!
So not surprisingly, we ended up not giving him a huge tip because he was waaay too pushy and let's face it, the food is not really worth the price anyways. But when he came back to return our cards and whatnot, he loudly remarked to us at how cheap we were for only giving him a 10 percent tip. Seriously, what was he expecting??

Are you ready for a good time after work?

This is the place to be after a hard days work. Come here to get the experience that no other restaurant has to offer. Loud, obnactious servers with an attitude! You will have so much fun here you won't believe it. Sit down with a group of friends to drinks, great food, and a lot of mouth between you and the servers. I reccomend asking for Taco as your server... this guy sure knows how to do it up! You will always leave with a smile.
