first timers, probably won't be back. our Thai fried rice tasted rather salty and cheap, my pad Thai was horrible, i've never had it taste this bad. our eggrolls were the biggest joke. all around I'm extremely unimpressed with this place. the service isn't eventhat good either. whatever

there is a lady there who loves to wear blue or green eye shadow, and she has short changed me on two occasions, it's only a few cents but I wonder how many other people she's done this to. in total she short changed me $.06 cents. U do that to 1000 customers that's $60.00.

nothing bad to say... i've had thai food in thailand and this place is just as good, if not better. clean & upscale ambience coupled w/ solid thai cuisine makes this place a true gem. it's worth the drive to pasadena to eat here. it's rite next to parking structure so it's even more convenient. sometimes i see william shatner eating rite next to our table! every single item on the menu has thusfar pleased us. we highly recommend it!

Pros: solid thai cuisine
Cons: ouside los angeles
mmm this is my favorite Thai restaurant. I come very regularly and everything that I've ever had has been great, especially the yellow curry and the pad see yew. It's slightly off the beaten track in Pasadena so there are never the massive Friday and Saturday night crowds like there are at all other Old Pasadena restaurants and it's very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is really nice and the service is incredibly fast and attentive. I live in Eagle Rock and City Thai is by far better than Thai Eagle Rock or Classic Thai. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The lunch specials are a great bargain because it comes with a cup of the soup of the day, salad, steamed rice, and entree. I loved the shrimp pad thai! The portions are large and hearty and the price for all this was about $6.
PROS: Lunch Specials
CONS:
I'm not the biggest fan of Thai food in the world, but City Thai does have some dishes that I really like. My favorites include Seafood Combo and Bamboo Shoot with Chicken. Both are only $7.95 for lunch and that price includes a small bowl of pretty good soup.
You'll like this place - if you are very patient. Waiting 5 minutes for the menu is considered normal. Oh, by the way, there's another 10-minute wait for the check. No, they are not that busy.
PROS: Food is great
CONS: Service is slow

I recently went to City Thai with a friend, and we had mango salad and salmon curry which were both really good. Being Thai myself, I consider the food to taste pretty close to what I've had growing up. The prices seem fair considering the location and ambience. If I'm craving Thai food, I'd go there.

Pros: Good location, Free parking, Friendly staff
The food was not good and it was expensive, $4 more for extra shrimps on top of my $15 curry fried rice? Do the math. The location and service was good, but I'm there for the food also but that didn't satify me with the money spent. Should stick with Saladang as usual down the block.

I love this place! The Pad Thai Tofu is quite excellent, and the garlic pepper tofu is fantastic.
5...and the food is just fine. I used to eat A LOT of Thai up in the Bay Area when I worked in Silicon Valley (every other day it seemed), so, yes, I know good Thai food.
Took my mom and stepfather here over the holidays and found the food tasted good, hearty without feeling bloated afterwards (we had sweet/sour pork, chicken/veggies with oyster sauce, shrip pad thai and chicken satay for an appetizer. Service was friendly and quick. Free refills on the soda. They were playing weird industrial techno for a little while on the sound system -- a bit jarring but they changed it eventually.
Bottom line? I'd go back. As the previous reviwer stated, there was no wait here during dinner time (around 6 p.m.). Great location right in Old Town.

The food is decent. What I really come here for is to get dinner quick (usually no wait) and cheap. The Tom Yum Gai is good. Mint Leave Chicken is also enjoyable. Service is kind if a little green.
