Seriously Addicting!

by Roberto J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,404

My wife and I have breakfast here at 4-5 times a year. It's a fun place to bring guests from out-of-town.
My favorite dish is the French Toast. Second most favorite: Eggs Benedict. My wife loves their huge omelettes.
I've never been here for lunch or dinner, so can't comment on that.
Be forewarned that there is usually a line of people waiting out front. If you have the time to stick it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised. But I understand that waiting in line is not everyone's idea of a great way to start breakfast.

The unique place you're looking for

by Peter V.

I can't say enough about Marstons. Quite possibly the best find in LA.

Been there for breakfast, for lunch and dinner. Had a wedding reception there - they rented the place out to us, and custom made our menu. Jim, the chef there, asked us what ingredients we liked and began to suggest dishes that would involve those flavors. Granted, you're not going to get to customize their menu for regular dining, but you don't need to. It's all phenomenal! Valentine's Day includes a rose for your lady, btw - tip for the guys out there - this is a romantic spot to have dinner. Marstons is a cozy little house and blows away all those carbon copy chain places.

The biggest complaint people will put on here is waiting and parking, and I agree that at the wrong time, you can get hit with the worst of both. Marstons has a pretty small lot. No worries, just drive around to Raymond - at most you've got a block or two to walk. As for the wait, I can't give away my secret, but I guarantee there is a time on Saturday morning when you can get 10min instead of 40. And even if I was to wait 40 min, the cornflake crusted, light and fluffy french toast or macadamia nut pancakes or savory omelet choices are worth the wait. Fantastic place!

I don't even know why I'm telling you this... the more people who discover this gem, the harder it will be to get a table. So um, nevermind...

Yum!

by Eve L. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,189

Went here with a friend. Ordered the Veggie Omelette. It was huge. It also came with potatoes and toast. The veggies could have been chopped smaller, but other than that it was delicious. Didn't really have to wait since it was a weekday. I would go there again. It is worth the wait. The couple of times I went during the weekend, I didn't have to wait that long.

Is it really worth the wait? Not IMO

by Brian H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,397

Disregard what another reviewer below wrote about Marston's being closed on Sundays - that is actually their BIGGEST, busiest day!
The food is tasty, salty, and big. Prices are OK considering the portions. But it's only really worth visiting when you can get right in. During busy times (weekends) the wait can be over 1/2 hour (in my experience), and I'm willing to bet others wait a lot longer depending on the timing.
The service tries to be great, but they are just too busy and in a hurry to really make it work for me.

PROS: Good food, good breakfast menu selection
CONS: Loooooooooooong wait. Cramped environment.

Marston's is a great place to take mom for brunch!

by Melissa M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,265

I went to Marston's last year for Mother's Day and I thought it was great. The staff was very friendly and the brunch wasn't too expensive. I'm not sure about the rest of the year, but on Mother's Day, this can't be beat! Get a reservation!

Good for breakfast, horrible for dinner

by G L. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,488

Good place for breakfast - good food, good service. Dinner is the opposite - service was slow and indifferent. Pricey for the quality of the dinner. Stick to breakfast.

Marstons

by Liz H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,368

This place is amazing! It's really small so you will have to wait for awhile almost any morning, but it is SO worth it. I have only been there for breakfast but I think that they serve lunch too. Their breakfast is amazing! I took my mom and her sister and they both had the largest omlets I have ever seen. I had the macademia nut pancakes and they were amazing. They were pretty sweet and you really could share them with another person because they were so big and fluffy. It was really nice to sit out on the patio but you can't do that if your party is more than about 4 people becuase it's not very large. They can accomodate larger groups inside though.

Great breakfast spot near old town (but no in old town). It has a patio (recommended). Closed on Sunday.

Great place for Breakfast

by Karla N. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,787

This is one of my favorite places to get breakfast. Their french toast is my favorite. They also make good oatmeal and give you the raisins, brown sugar, cream on the side. It's good to get there when they open because there is usually a wait. Really cute cottage style ambience. Prices are reasonable. Parking on the side of the building or on the street.

PROS: good food
CONS: can have a long wait

This is one of my favorites! There is almost no parking, there is usually a wait, but once you are in, it is WELL worth it! A small, family run restaurant that is fantastic, with great service and GREAT food. I highly recommend the California Orange Salad, you will love it! - MH

Come if you like waiting

by CaesarTheDay _. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,163

If you've got a few hours to kill and have no other way of spending your Sunday morning, head to Marstons.
The wait there is usually over an hour for brunch. Granted, the food is decent, but it's not worth the wait. Service is spotty and they try to get you out as soon as possible to pack the joint.
Location is loud and off Walnut traffic will drive you nuts as you wait for your table. If you don't dine out a lot and are easily impressed with omelets and pancakes then go ahead and order your eggs w/ bacon. I'll skip it.

Everyone in Pasadena knows that Marston's is not about the food. With a location convenient to city hall it's no surprise that a few important folk will dine there from time to time. Now don't get me wrong, it's not a chain place and the food is somewhat decent, but I contend that most folks don't get out for breakfast or brunch as much as they do other meals, and I would hate to see them waste an opportunity to go to one of the other great places in the area. Marston's has started serving dinner within the last couple of years, but I've never been.

You will find me here every Saturday. The food is great (I haven't had one bad thing ever!) the service is excellent and the people in general are so friendly. The atmosphere inside and out, is charming. I have been a patron for almost 20 years, and goseveral times a week. The best breakfasts in town - you have to try the french toast, it's a Marston's classic!

oh my french toast. this breakfast is worth breaking any diet you are on. the cornflake covered french toast is to die for. any of the breakfast items are great. they have great salads for lunch. the only deal is the parking stinks - if the lot is full you have to park around the corner and hoof in. the wait on the weekend is anywhere from 10-40 minutes.

but well worth the wait! enjoy.

This is a very well-known and loved restaurant in Pasadena. The food is good, and the restaurant is especially loved for its yummy salads. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but make sure to check times before going. There is usually a pretty long wait to get in. Be sure to note that the parking is bad. The parking lot holds 5-7 cars, and the rest of the customers park on the street. On a hot day, also be aware that there is no air conditioning except for ceiling fans. But the food is still good and people keep going as it's one of Pasadena's favorites.
