04/18/11 droped my 7 year old cat off to have surgery (spay and front declaw) at about 8:30 am, The vet called me at about 3:00 PM to tell me that my cat died but could not explain to me how or why. This has hurt my wife , daughter, and myself very much. I will never take anouther pet to any vet agian untill I do alot of research
on them first. Van Buren animal Hospital dosn't know what they are doing!!!!!! They only know how to put your pet to sleep;;;;PERMANENTLY!

I have been in Riverside for 25 years, after moving from the West Coast. I live on an acre of land and I have had different dogs and vets. Dobies, Labs and now a little Chiwawa :). I have a thriving 13 y.o. female Lab. I NEVER experienced him being rough or careless with any of my dogs. He is knowledgeable, caring and his fees are reasonable. He is not xenophobic and I don't mind his foreign accent.
Jeeeez !

Had recently moved from CT to CA and was looking for a good veterinarian. He, along with most vets in my area have walk-in so you can hit a good day/time and get seen right away or you might be 8th in the waiting room. (Never heard of such a thing on the East Coast.) Van Buren Animal Hospital was recommended to me by three people. Took my 10 year-old 80 lb. Golden Retriever for check-up and heartworm testing. Dr. was nice but he was foreign and very difficult to understand. They have the elevated stainless steel platforms as other vets have for your animal to be examined on. What I didn't like is the Dr. picked up my dog's front feet and placed them on the side of the elevated examination table and then basically grabbed his hind quarters and attempted to lift him onto the slippery stainless steel platform about 4 feet high. My dog's front legs started sliding and he got scared and when the vet went to lift him it ended up that he grabbed his legs and backside somehow and, the doctor not being a large man at all, my dog's stomach and chest slammed into the side of the table. His front feet started sliding all over the place as this was going on. I had to grab my dog and assist the vet in getting him onto the table and he really did hit the side of the table quite hard. My dog is sooooooo laid back always, even at the vets and after this he was shaking and very nervous and wanting to jump down. When the vet then took a needle to draw blood from the top right leg of my dog he was talking to us about something having nothing to do about animals and he jabbed the needle into the leg. No alcohol. When he removed the needle blood started spurting straight up out of my dog's leg and the vet turned around, walked to the table area, got a cloth bandage-type thing and put it on the spot that was spouting blood and put my hand on the cloth and told me to hold it on the spot for a while. This didn't seem very professional at all. Getting my dog down was very frightening because as the vet went to pick him up sideways to lift him my dog tried to jump he was so scared and it ended up that he half fell, half got put onto the floor. So, the doctor was very nice in chatting about this and that as he worked on my dog but I felt he really needed to give my dog his undivided attention, which he obviously didn't. He was the only person in the building besides the female receptionist so he really had no help lifting my dog. The doctor is about 5'5" tall and of slender build. Seems he should at least have another person to physically assist him in the lifting of larger animals. They were pleasant, were able to do the heartworm test from the drawn blood immediately in his lab (which I've never heard of - ALWAYS had to bring a stool sample to any other vet I've ever gone to) so I didn't have to wait for any results to come back and have to return to then puchase the heartworm and HeartGuard Plus flea and tick meds. (Comparable pricing on meds, about $45 and $68 for 3 month on the Heartguard Plus.) Won't go back there because of this problem of lifting my dog and the blood spurting episode - my dog is spooked now where he had never been before in his 10 years of visiting vets. It would frighten me if my dog were to be operated on there because of the unprofessional things that occurred during the office visit - I'd be afraid something wouldn't be steralized or there might be sloppy cutting or stiching. He probably DOES know his stuff as he's been in business for a long time so you can take this comment of mine and weight it against his good reputation from other people I've talked to. I found the receptionist to be very pleasant and returned my calls promptly when I had to leave a message. May all your pets live long and happy lives. Arly

I was referred to Van Buren Animal Hospital by my sister-in-law after relocating from another city. She takes her pet there and loves the doctor.
I loved our pets previous Vet and wanted to provide the same quality service to them. The fees aren't too bad. Service is fine as well.
Overall I have no real complaints as long as our pets are beening cared for.

This was my first time getting any of my dogs spayed. I took my dog in today and the receptionist/nurse was friendly and helpful with all the information I needed to know about getting my dog spayed. She was nice to my dog. I knew my dog was in good hands.
However, I didn't get to personally meet the doctor who performed the operation on my dog. But it's OK because my dog got through the operation and is now resting. OH! and upon arriving there, the nurse recognized me and immediately gave me my paper work and gave me back my dog.

I like this place. I will be back to get my dog's stitches out in 10 days.

I just need to say how very unprofessional and rude this particular Vet is! From the person answering the phone to the actual Doctor himself! I have never encountered such rude and uncaring people as these people. Usually, the vets are really nice and helpful. Not at Van Buren. You can even get that vibe over the phone! Not good customer service at all when the customer feels like they are bothering the staff and especially when the staff is irritated! REALLY BAD!!!

He's been taking care of my dogs for years. He saved the life of my first one and I've been doing there ever since. I feel my dogs get very personal attention and they are always very nice. when 2 of my dogs passed away (not at the same time - one suddenly and one from old age), they were very sympathetic and helped us with final arrangements and were as upset as we were about it.

Price seemed reasonable and cheaper than other overpriced animal hospitals that I've been to. The doctor was friendly and took good care of my dogs. I am very pleased with this veterinary practice.

disorganized when I stopped there to try to make an appointment for my dog. Therefore, I did not even stay long enough to make the appt, or to bring my animal there. I have to trust the staff who would be caring for my pet.
