I always have a great experience at Emil's, and I've been shopping here for 18 years. I love that it's a neighborhood store, as there are so few left. They may not be all warm and cozy, but you'll get what you need, and they know the merchandise.

Incredibly rude unhelpful service. Owner would not stand behind his products and refused to refund for defective item we purchased there. He was arrogant and insulting when we asked him why. We would like to support the smaller neighborhood hardware store even if it is more expensive and holds less stock than the big box stores. Unfortunately Emil's provides none of the benefit that you look for in smaller venues. Judging by Emils customer service it's obvious that its days are numbered.

Old-fashioned, fun shop; friendly, helpful staff. Call ahead if you're looking for a hard-to-find item. Definitely not Home Depot--that's a good thing!

Emil's is a quintessential old time hardware store run by the grandchildren and sons of the matriarch founder.
I call it world class, but really, it's in a class of its own! You don't find places like this neighborhood jewel anymore. First of all, they will fix, or help you fix lots of things and direct you to the right products, or order them for you if they don't have them. Don't go if you are in a hurry---but do go if you want to observe the hilariously dysfunctional family that keeps it going. Kim, a family outsider, has been there for years, and he holds everything together. The seventy-something son of the founder, as well as Kim are a wealth of knowledge, and can figure just about anything out for you----a service lacking in all the big box places. They make keys at a good price and have lots of hardware items that you will not find elsewhere. Its definitely worth a trip---and is one as well!

Emils bought the space next store and is in the transition phase of expanding into it. And boy do they need it.

This is a crowded little store with narrow aisles and more than a few odds and ends for sale with thick layers of dust on them.

That said, once you get over the sight of the place, most of their products are pretty well organized. And, though you may have to wait a minute or two, you're likely to actually get help with questions from someone who knows what they're talking about.

They don't sell lots of larger items like plywood, sheetrock, etc. But if you need some screws or an odd part or some cleaning supplies or a key made or many of the other hardware essentials, do yourself a favor if you live nearby and go here instead of wasting your time driving to Home Depot (only to get lost looking for something and finding no help).

Also, street parking is usually easty, but they do have some spots in the alley behind the store.

PROS: Helpful, Local, Most Smaller Items
CONS: Not Pretty, No Larger Items
