5 Stars: Good Italian Food (by Lesli B.)

Its a cafe type setting, not too fancy. It is a popular Italian place near campus. They have a good variety of dishes for a reasonable price. The chicken alfredo is my favorite and I have gotten it both times I have been there.

1 Stars: Good Food , but ............ (by Patrick D.)

I've been to Gypsys three times and the first two times were great. On the third night, our dishes were mediocre. Normally, I wouldn't complain but the food was so off that I decided to bring it to the attention of the manager. Standing in front of me was a young man who was asking the manager it he had been served the correct food. The manager exploded, called the young man a N...ger and looked as if he was going the hit the young man. I was so stunned at the manager (who I've learned is also the owner) that my wife and I paid the bill (without eating the food) and left. Other patrons left as well. Every restaurant in entitled to a couple of off nights for food, but the owner/manager's attitude was inexcusable. My wife and I will never eat there again.

4 Stars: Slow service, but well worth the wait! (by Dora W.)

Gypsys is one of the few Italian restaurants available in Berkeley. Their food is extremely delicious. They offer a few dozen differnt types of pasta dishes in categories like meat, seafood, chicken, and vegetarian. But their real attractions are the calzones. They are huge and packed full of goodies. But because they make all of their dishes fresh, it does take quite a while to get your food, so if you're in a rush find another place to go to.

5 Stars: Awesome food for the college student (by Len B.)

For the average college student on a tight budget, Gypsy's has an awesome selection of Italian pasta, calzones, and pizza. The portions are good as well as the amount of ingredients used. Everything is made fresh when you order so you'll always have a warm, yummy, creamy plate of pasta or crisp, freshly baked calzone. Drinks are self-serve, though refills cost 50 cents.
