I can't believe I'm saying this, but at 30$ a month with free, incredibly convenient parking, this gym is incredibly overpriced.

First, there's no air conditioning in the summer. To get fans, the employees have to spend out of pocket, which means that there are also few fans.

As a result, the equipment spends all day being Soaked. This causes a lot of wear and tear, which you can probably imagine doesn't bode well for a place that can't even fix its air conditioner.

If you're in the marina, you pretty much don't have a choice under 50$. If you're not in the marina, go ANYWHERE else.

I just got off the phone with billing because (apparently) I was just charged again for another month of membership when I have been trying to cancel it!

See, they have this policy where, if you want to cancel, you have to LOG into your account online, PRINT out a cancellation form, STAMP it, and MAIL it in. You must do this 10-20 days before you want to cancel!! It's not even like you have to fill out anything on the form. They just do this so that they can keep charging you while this form gets lost in the mail.

So naturally, I decide that I want to cancel my membership, but have to pay for another month because my billing cycle was coming up and I didn't "mail" the form in yet. Then I mail it in and see that I am charged AGAIN the next month! When I called them, I explained that I sent the cancellation form weeks ago. They asked if I had "proof of mailing"? As if I'd send a piece of paper certified mail.

They refused to refund the charges, even though I haven' been there in months. As a courtesy (more like a sl-p in the face) the guy said he'd cancel it over the phone (wow, they can do that???) but he wouldn't refund my charges.

This gym simply does not give a d-mn about people. And they have the policies in place to prove it.

I travel for a living and have been a member at several different gyms across the country. I joined LA Fitness simply because of its location and cost, but after going to several vicinities, I'm about to cough up the $400 initiation fee, $138 monthly cost, and 20 minute drive to go to Equinox (great gym in Santa Monica) so that I can feel good, clean, and healthy during and after a workout. LA fitness is the ONLY gym I have belonged to that doesn't supply towels. They have Purell on the walls and occasionally paper towels sitting atop a trash can with which to can clean the equipment. The catch is that I am in the medical field and aware of the fact that Purell is for skin (an antiseptic) NOT a disinfectant which is for inanimate objects. Bottom line, its a poor excuse for a cleaning agent. The gym is also sooo hot! Granted, I understand that the monthly cost is low, but can't some of that money go into air conditioning? My friend and I joke about how we run when we're at the gym simply because the treadmills have mini-fans that create a little breeze. Basically, if you have other options, even if its a little more expensive, I wouldn't choose this gym.

Very good gym. Nice trainers and a good enviorment. It is not too expensive but it is worth the money.

This LA Fitness is conveniently located in a shopping area in Marina del Rey. It is quite clean, and there is plenty of natural light, which makes your workout experience much more pleasant. The staff seem friendly and helpful. They have a number of group fitness classes, but I have never tried them before. Parking is in the structure nearby, and I never have a hard time finding a spot.

Gym chains like LA Fitness and Bally's seem to run the gamut in terms of quality ... some are fantastic, and some downright suck.

This particular LA Fitness is one of the really good ones. It rarely seemed crowded, and the equipment was always well-maintained and clean. The locker room is likewise clean. The space was very open and well-ventilated, and there is plenty of natural light.

Expect there to ALWAYS be some kind of "memebership special" or "promotion" happening. They used to have this board outside the front door, which said "Membership Special - 3 days left". Then it would change to 2 days left ... then 1 ... then 3 ... then 2 ... it was almost a joke.

Don't accept the first deal they give you. My experience (not just here but other places as well) is that gyms are flexible in their rates and can usually be talked down a little bit. You can also save money in the long run if you pay more up-front.

Majority of classes have been lackluster. Actual equipment is fine and it's not crowded. Don't have a pool.
