uh huh. that is what i would title this restaurant. engaging the spices and herbs straight from india. i love the restaurants in new york much better than in los angeles, however, gaylord india restaurant is almost the same as my favorite india restaurant in new york. that is quite a big compliment to the gaylord india restaurant.

YUM!!
by jenniolson
Let me tell you something, I'm telling everyone about this place, which is now called Tanzore. I wish I lived closer, I'd be here all the time. The service is impeccable - friendly and timely. The food and desserts are perfectly seasoned and presented. Try the Samososa, they are quite tasty. I had a Charbay Green Tea Mojito - super refreshing. The colors of the restaurant are rich and inviting. And if you are waiting for friends you can watch a fashion show. Get in now before you won't be able to, this is a true treasure. I will visit Tanzore and their lovely staff everytime I'm in LA!!
Pros: Service, great food, yummy cocktails, friendly space
Cons: nada

Best Indian in LA, hands down.
by chachartis
I just have to say, this place is great! It is the gold standard, in Los Angeles, as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to Indian cuisine. It's all about authenticity here, from the menu, to the food itself. I was here for a banquet party the other night, and I was really impressed. The food was so fresh, and the service was great too. I can't imagine going anywhere else for great, authentic Indian food in LA.
Pros: totally authentic Indian food
Cons: can't think of any

Great authentic flavors, friendly, and some surprises
by scribe77
A friend recommended dinner at Gaylord since it had been years since he had been there. We were craving authentic Indian food, and Gaylord definitely delivered with a new spin. The four of us were warmly received and seated in their banquet room which was a bit odd-- we figured out why when Sam, the maitre d' explained the construction of the new restaurant next door, Tanzore. Our friendly server, Devin, said they'd be opening in a few weeks-- actually the menu had the new Tanzore dishes, not really fusion but Indian specialties I hadn't seen at other Indian restaurants: chatpate aloo, hariyali murgh, a bright herb-marinated chicken appetizer, really good! (Went surprisingly well with my chardonnay.) They also had the classics: tandoori dishes, dal makhani, different naan and flatbreads.
The naan and pranthra arrived very warm, straight out of the tandoor oven. We had ordered some starters including some deliciously spiced seekh kebabs, not too spicy but intensely flavored. We were especially raving over the kabuli naan which has a sort of sweet rose and nut filling, a cooling foil for the roasted meats and their spices. My friend has been eating curry dishes and vindaloo for years so he ordered the lamb which had authentic kick, perfect for more yogurt raitha and kabuli to tame the chilies. The presentation was stylish, much more modern than traditional Indian dishes. Fish? Amazingly moist sea bass even though it was roasted in the tandoor, giving it a slightly crisp crust. All the entrees were fantastic.
We went for some classic desserts (gulab jamun, a tapioca pudding with basil syrup which was rather plain) while I tried the chocolate lava cake with cardamom. Dark, melty, warm, spiced, the chefs know their chocolate! If this is a sample of what's to come at Tanzore, we're definitely coming back for more-- overall a great dinner with unique surprises & flavors.
Pros: Warm service, rich Indian flavors, unique dishes, choco lava cake!
Cons: banquet room ambience (temporary), little hard to find front door

I Was Reborn
by cacarma
I have been reborn! Wow! Went to Gaylord after not having had Indian food for years and fell in love again.
It was kind of hard to find at first, housed in a big black building on Restaurant Row, but then I saw a large lit banner and we were in. Inexpensive self parking was available and we walked right in and were greeted by a very gracious Indian gentleman, Sam. At first I was skeptical because the room was a little sparse although busy. Then once the server came by with a delicious glass of complimentary Sancerre from Sam our questions were answered. Aparently the original Gaylord India was a well known haven for both countrymen from India and L.A. Foodies alike, but alas the owner of 15 years, along with his designer-daughter , is finally seeing his dream fine dining restaurant become reality in the form of a brand new dining room they call, "Tanzore" due to open in only a couple of weeks. Sam very pleasantly offered me a tour of the construction site which is near completion with beautiful marble and rich wood walls, stained concrete floors, a glass enclosed 2000 bottle wine cellar and a lounge where one entire wall will be a video screen showing fashion, art and travel montages. Even though there was no furniture yet you could tell alot of money had been spent in design and materials...But the food was the show stopper. They are previewing the new menu at a much reduced price and everything I had was delicious, extremely flavourful...lots of spice (hot and mild) and ample portions. My favorites ,the Machli Raitan (seared tuna) with an avocado raita, crab tiki (crabcakes) with mustard and curry (spicy) and lamb seekh kebab (authentic as I've ever had) . We shared entrees including black cod extremely tender with lime leaves and a cashew nut salad, Saag paneer, for my girlfriend and Tandoori Lamb Chops for me...Can't get enough Indian Lamb I always say... I don't have enough space to mention the dessert but they were awesome. Looking forward to Tanzore!
Pros: Graciousness of service, authentic and creative cuisine
Cons: A little hard to find

Biggest WASTE of money and time....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by shaytariq
This is by far the worst dining establishment I have been to in my life. I have always been curious as to what the big fuss was over a "posh" Indian restaurant and could not have been more disappointed. First of all, when you pull up to valet there was nobody there I had to wait about ten minutes outside before someone came to get the car. Then we walked in and weren't greeted, there was no ambiance to the place at all, it was like a big clubhouse with dining tables. We weren't even given menus until at least fifteen minutes after being seated. They charged for everything, such as the riata (yogurt side item) and all chutneys that go with the dishes. At most Indian food places these items are complimentary. The food had no authenticity to it. The servings were small and paltry at best. For instance, the samosa appetizer I ordered was the same little frozen samosas you get at Indian grocery stores! Can you believe it. The food was awful, there was no service, This was just a Beverly Hills shi-shi foo-foo dump. We spent over
$140 and got an appetizer and rice and chicken and one naan. This place is literally for suckers. DO NOT GO THERE! pathetic excuse for a restaurant.
Pros: none
Cons: everything about the place

BEST FOOD IN THE COUNTRY.
by ymis
We were in LA on a vacation. I am from Northern India and live in NY. We tried the new/improved menu. I haven't tasted anything like it. Believe me I have been to Indian restaurants all over the world. Kesari Chicken and Napolean Paneer were simply amazing.
Pros: Amazing/ Eclectic yet Authentic Indian Food.
Cons: Owner is improving the ambience in the coming weeks

No thank you!!!
by newjerseydiva
I love Indian food!!! Unfortunately, I didn't love Gaylord. I chose this place after hearing so much about it...perhaps it's just the location that makes people rave. The Bombay Chat was pretty much chopped potatoes and onions with what was, I swear, Wheat Thins; it was dry by the way...no chutney or yogurt. I also ordered the Channa Masala, my standard which I've often eaten least 3 times a week in various parts of the world. That said, Gaylord's version was a poor excuse. A heavy buttery flavor (perhaps ghee), it came in a brown sauce heavily seasoned with onions (not visually appealing AT ALL!) and a nice touch of tumeric. The only saving factor of my Gaylord meal was the Naan; it was hot, light, and moist. So if you're in the mood for good Naan, Gaylord's got it!
Pros: Good, hot Naan
Cons: Poor value, Bad food

SPECTACULAR Indian Food
by nsofia
Gaylord is a very special restaurant, with food that transcends and inspires! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles, and be assured I have tried them all! I come from an Indian family and regularly take my relatives here for authentic, sophisticated, wonderful food. Vegetarians try the Paneer Makhani (tell the waiter Nicky to make it just right for you), bombay chat, aloo golbi, and saag paneer. Meat eaters try the tandoori fish which is so divine you'll be transported beyond the gates of heaven!! For dessert, try the kulfi which is a luxurious indian ice cream drizzled with rose water and pistachios. The restaurant owners was really nice people and will accomidate any requests. Gaylord will uplift you! This is real, authentic Indian food.

Best Indian food in Southern CA!
by rfazilat
I have dined here before many times. Yes, the place is a bit pricy, but stop whining. You are paying for the quality of food and taste..those of you that have written negative reviews belong to or own other Indian Restaurants in the area. I find their reviews offensive. This restaurant is great if you want great Indian food. I have tried other Indian restaurant, but when it comes to flavor and quality, this is the best one!
Pros: Food quality, ambience
Cons: Price, parking

Great Lunch Buffet with lots of choices
by samanthacat
I have heard this place is expensive for dinner, but I thought the lunch buffet was a great value. Also, this was the best Indian buffet experience I have had in LA as far as variety---far more choices than the typical Indian buffet. They even had chai! I would definitely go back, and bring friends, too. the restaurant itself is very nice with a classy ambience and decor.

Leaves a very good after taste!
by intlfoods
This restaurant gave birth to most Indian restaurants in L.A. as far as their curry goes. Its got this immense flavor that will leave you with a pleasant aftertaste for hours. The flavor is compared to: Bombay Palace (a mile west on Wilshire & not recommended) and Electric Lotus (Los Feliz, not so good reviews lately) but more pricier than the other two mentioned. The dining hall is what it suppose to be, quiet & comfortable, dimmed and not too overly lit.
It's good if you're in the area and in the mood (w/a date) otherwise there are many other authentic mom & pop Indian restaurants to choose from.
Pros: location

Bad food
by golakers
This is one of the worst Indian restaurants ever. The food was terrible and the service even worse. The portion sizes are way too small and everything is highly over-priced. The only thing nice about this place is probably the space they have. It's huge.

Excellent food. Bargain buffet
by citycat
The best value is their buffet (Mon-Sat) for $10. It is very nice and spacious inside. There were only a few people when we went for the buffet on a Saturday.
The food was excellent. There are not many other Indian restaurants where I liked the food as much as here. Buffet included delicious tomoto soup.
If you like Indian food you should definitely try this place.
It seems like they offer only valet parking. But we found a parking spot right in front of the restaurant on the street (on a Saturday afternoon).
Highly recommended!
Pros: Excellent food, Good ambience
Cons: Valet parking only

Obsequious Waiter
by Sue_Lu
We went very early on a week night and had the waiters full attention. All we had to do was glance in his general direction and, in a flash, he was at our table, checking our waters. The vegetable pakoras were decent, otherwise, the food all looked the same, though served with much flourish. There is definitely better Indian food to be had. The ambience is pretty romantic though, so it's not a total loss.
