This place use to be called Steven's. My co-workers and I have been going there for over 10 years for breakfast. We love the omelette's made to order and they're willing to change things, like egg whites only. You have to try their oatmeal, they supply all the fixing's.

We ate here this morning during our final day In San Fran. Horrible, and I do mean horrible service. Nice people, ok food, but total chaos on the service end.

Tasty Diner Food
by smithy11
Sam's, although in an interesting neighborhood, has very good, just what you'd want, diner food. The fries are thick and tasty, the burgers are very good and the shakes are just what you want them to be-thick, creamy and lots of it! Try the tuna melt-it's gooood! They have breakfast, too so it's perfect before I go to work.
Pros: Tasty Diner Food
Cons: Go in regardless of neighborhood

Hungry? These portions are unbelievable....yum!
by lola2727
I walked by this place many times and never stepped inside. Last week I went for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a chicken melt sandwich...delicious. The chicken was tender and flavorful, the cheese was melted all over, and the bread was toasted to perfection. My colleague got a milkshake that I couldn't take my eyes off of....it looked so good! I am going back to try it. The staff is extremely friendly. From the moment I walked in they treated me like a regular. I highly recommend checking this place out!

Good Place on Market St.
by newenglandtransplant
OK so it's on a funky stretch on Market St. but but don't let that detract you from stepping inside. The breakfasts are good and they served hot and fast. The omelets are full of ingredients and it's hard to mess up a couple of eggs over easy and they don't. The cheese burgers are nicely charbroiled and don't forget the fries. The cheese burger comes with lettuce/tomato/pickle on a bun. If you don't like mayo you better tell them because it comes with it. I'll remember the next time. Oh, if you want a vanilla milkshake they have those too. Steven's is a good spot for good food.
Pros: great staff, location, prices, food
Cons: parking

Small town charm in the big city!

I dine frequently at Sam's for both breakfast and lunch. The reason for my frequent dining is both the food and the friendly staff. Rarely today, are you greeted with a warm welcome and a smile when you open the door and enter. Now to the food- for breakfast both the Cinnamon French Toast and the Avacado, Bacon and Cheese omelette are tasty. Plus, they keep my coffee cup always full. For lunch, I suggest either the Chicken Teriyaki plate or the Cheeseburger. Both are very good and for their own delious reasons.
Check it out.

Great Comfort Food
by sensualwine
big portions on old style platters for fair prices. It's a true diner. Breakfast is timeless classic breakfast fare in the tradition of the fifties.
Pros: lot's of good food for the price. close to public transport i.e., F-Line Trolley streetcars
Cons: some items a bit greasy. definitely not SF veggie health food spot

Breakfast and Cheese Burgers
by newenglandtransplant
OK so it's on a funky stretch on Market St. but you gotta eat you eat. The breakfast are good and they come out in a reasonable amount of time. The omlets are good and it's hard to mess up a couple of eggs over easy and they don't. The cheese burger is pretty good. It comes with lettuce/tomato/pickle on a bun. What did you expect. If you don't like mayo you better tell them because it comes with it. I'll remember the next time. Oh, if you want a vanilla milkshake they have those too. Steven's is a decent spot for decent food.
Pros: reasonably fast and reliable
Cons: parking, location

Need Improvement
by jeromeez
I work near by and have heard great things about Stevens Cafe. After my first visit I probably wont come back. Not only did the waitress get my order wrong 3 times. When I got my burger I ordered it Well Done and it was as rare as can Be.
Pros: ????
Cons: Packed, Noisy

Good lunch spot.
by ukgrad04
I work nearby Steven's Cafe and occasionally get food to go. Their Chicken Teriyaki and the burgers are decent. Their nothing special but everyone there is always nice and they stay pretty busy during lunch. As the last review read, they remember what you order!
Pros: fresh food

A real diner experience
by mcnamara99
Steven's is the kind of place where people don't only know your name, they remember what you eat, what your soda of choice is and what you want 'on the side'. The chicken teriaki meal is great but the House Special hamburger - with bacon, onion and pepper chopped into the meat - is really the thing to order
Pros: food, service
