I have never been to a more helpful and knowledgable nursery in all my years. The ones I had been to before spoke a completely different language, or didn't speak to me at all!! As I walked through the door i was immediately greeted and asked if I needed any help. What a relief, because I did. I was asking for plant names that did not really exsist, yet somehow they were able to decode my thoughts and lead me in the right direction.
They spent so much time with me that I actually felt guilty. I loved the family atmosphere and the compatability between the staff members. It made me feel at home.
The only downside was that the nursery was so large I was exhaused from walking the huge area. My suggestion??? They might want to invest in a trolly driver. LOL
Also, the workers should be allowed to drink on the job after having to deal with me!

I recently visited Newell's on an outing with my mother. Even though she could easily be described as "hard to deal with", the lady that assisted us never left our side and answered all our questions - even the ones that some people might consider "dumb". I had heard that Newell's was overpriced. I have shopped at quite a few other nurseries, including the "big box" stores & didn't find that to be true. Their selection was AMAZING and their plants were beautiful & better quality than other places I had shopped. We wanted a plant that they didn't have in stock, so the salesperson ordered it for us & called us when it arrived. Their giftware area was well stocked and there were a lot of items I hadn't seen anywhere else (and again suprisingly affordable). Overall I would say my experience at Newell's was a delight & I will keep coming back.

i just recently moved to this area, and while driving by i yhought this has to be a nice place !! i waited so long for some one to help me i was getting frustrated, and if that wasnt bad enough.... i spent almost 200 dollars there on roses bushes, potting soil, vegetables plants and fruit plants. i asked for a certain colors of roses and when they grew out to my surprise they were not even close to being the right color... after all the expense time and water i was very dissapointed to say the least. i will not be going back this was a very bad and costly experience ........................

seriously...are you kidding me? i have shopped many places for plant materials locally for many years and each time that i go to newell's nursery, i get disappointed all over again. first, one can't buy any help to purchase old, root-bound & over-priced plants. second, the attitude at the front desk OR on the phone really stinks. finally, for what one is buying---plant-wise---the growers should investigate how newell's ruins their plants mr. newell is a nice enough guy and melody can have a decent flair with design on occasion, but this place is a family run business gone down the porcelain throne. i can't recommend going here unless one is REALLY desperate to find a seldom-seen or one-of-a-kind project plant in need of TLC in exchange for a king's ransom. the BEST part of newell's? the extensive selection of non-plant material stock; gotta give 'em a gold star on that one! the major addition/renovation of a few years back is still a great tease, but not used to the fullest effect, same as the nursery in downtown beaumont. my evaluation overall: selection? B-; service? D-; price? D+; value? D. one goes to a nursery for plants and supplies, one could skip shopping at newell's nursery and not miss much while saving money, frustration and time, in addition to not having to deal with the attitude.

They ARE more expensive. BUT they have alot of harder to find plants than the large chain stores. If you want petunias or some other fairly common and easy to find in any store type plant then shop elsewhere and save money. But if you want something more specific (say English Lavender "Hidcote") then you'll likely find it at Newell Nurseries. They also have a wonderful selection of roses (also bare root in late winter): David Austin roses and so many more.

Like the others, I live very near to Newell's. I must say I am really only impressed with the non-living items they sell. They have a lovely, quaint gift shop (spendy but unique items) and a great selection of gloves and yard tool type things. However, the plants and living items are not the best quality and with not having a guarantee for the price it is too risky for us. I am very pleased with Cherry Valley nursery and we have been buying our live plants, trees and organic fertilizer from them! Cherry Valley Nursery isn't the bells and whistles of a storefront like Newell's but they are super informative and our plants are lush and beautiful! They were extremely cost effective and told us what to do to ensure proper planting and 4 years later they still look fabulous! Plus they have a huge yard for soil, amend, mulch, etc that you can have loaded in your truck bed or you can get the truck delivery for a nominal fee! Definitely worth the drive over to Cherry Valley in my opinion...unless you want a unique non-living garden gift for a picky person.

I have lived in Yucaipa for 11 years. I have bought alot of vegetable starter plants from Newell's. I have bought cabbage, (marked as cabbage) only for them to grow to brussel sprouts or cauliflower. Many of their vegetable packs have been on stand for a long period of time and are root bound and too mature to properly produce.
They are very expensive on their plants and store products and the employees could not help me identify an invading grass in my lawn nor diagnose fire blight in my apple trees.
I found Cherry Valley Nursery and am glad I did. Christopher at Cherry Valley has an extensive knowledge and was able to diagnose my to previously mentioned problems. They also rotate their vegetable plants out so they are fresh and ready for planting. Try Cherry Valley, you will be glad you did.

I spent a lot of money at Newell's when I first purchased my new home. When one of the expensive trees died within three weeks of planting it, I assumed they would exchange it, Instead, they actually said to me, "If you wanted a guarantee, you should have bought it at Lowes or Home Depot." Are you kidding me? That's the last time I shop a local nursery.

I almost didn't go to Newell Nurseries after reading the reviews shown here but it is so close to where I live I took a chance and was very glad I did. I found a diverse selection of seasonal plants for this area as well as an ample selection of trees, shrubs, drought tolerant and shade plants. Newell's has an incredible gift shop with unique and elegant garden ornaments and decor. I found the staff friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I found the plants and trees I bought to be of good quality. I listened to the advice I was given as to how to plant them and what amendments to use and have not lost anything. I will never shop anywhere else for plants!

I bought hundreds of dollars worth of plants to landscape my backyard from Newell's 4 weeks ago. The staff was friendly and helpful. However, 6 of the plants did not live. I was told they were full sun plants and I followed the instructions I was given to the letter when planting and caring for them. They all just turned brown and died. I called the Nursery and was told that they do not guarantee their plants - they did not offer to replace the plants or even a partial refund. For as much money as they charge, I expected that they would at least offer what many less expensive nurseries do in the way of customer service and satisfaction. I will not be returning to Newell's and I will not recommend them to any friends.

PROS: Friendly and helpful staff
CONS: No customer satisfaction guarantees

This nursery does not have many choices and I was somewhat disappointed. I also found them to be rather expensive. It is nice to have local places to shop but I find if I go down the hill, I can save much more money. I will say the employees were very nice, informed and helpful.
