Pros: Great Dosas/Idlis. Friendly folk.

.

This place rocks..the food is authentic and they don't ask you for spice levels. What they make is what you get. Impressive variety of dishes and everything I have tried has always made me want to come back again.

Pros: Service, Authentic Food

Cons: Hard to find

.

Not in a great location but the food is excellent. The service was ok...kind of self service--you order at the counter and they bring the food to the tables. The dosas (thin crispy crepes) were wonderful. So was the sambaar (spicy lentils with veggies). Definitely recommended.

I was introduced to this place by a friend of mine. It sure has the best dosas. I ordered the paper masala dosa. The dosa just melted in my mouth. How do they make it so wafer thin ?

This is where one goes to get true authentic South Indian food. Everything I've had here, from buris to idlis to their masalas is nothing short of excellent. It's like mom's home comfort cooking! Even my Indian mom loves this place and she's picky.

Madras Cafe is located in an ugly little strip mall with simple tables and seating. Don't be deterred because this is how they keep they keep their prices low and a faithful customer base.

PROS: Inexpensive BUT quality food
CONS:

Definitely a diamond in the rough - this place is in a nondescript strip mall near a Carl's Jr and McDonalds, but it would be a crime to go to either of these when Madras Cafe is so close-by.

The interior is clean but nothing fancy - and the ordering is more akin to a fast food restaurant.

The food, however, is quite excellent. I enjoyed my idlys and Rava Masala Dosa. The sambar was quite spicy but so good that I ate the whole thing as soup. My idly came with Podi which was quite potent.

Definitely one of the standouts of Southern Indian Cuisine in Sunnyvale.

PROS: Great dosas and idlys
CONS: Nondescript interior and exterior

If you like Spicey south-indian food and don't want to spend a lot, try this place. This is like a south-Indian fast-food joint. Great tasting food at really affordable prices. No fancy decor, and very limited seating. I almost always take food-togo. But its really good and spicey and fixes my cravings.

Try their rava kesri for dessert too.
