Handmade tortillas, excellent grilled meats, pinatas and all sorts of junk hung from the ceiling. One of the few sit-down restaurants I wouldn't mind taking a date to in Boyle Heights, La Parilla is an institution. The carne asada plate is excellent and everything else is big and good. The place almost always has a couple police officers eating there, so you know trouble's not going to come knocking (a good thing if you've ever been to BH).
