4 Stars: good, generic chinese food (by Anish J.)

Chef Chu's is considered an institution and almost a landmark in Los Altos, but the food is not as tasty as it was 5 years ago. Still, the food here is some of the best Chinese in the area. The best dishes include the specials such as the duck and whole grilled fish.

5 Stars: Best Chinese food ever! (by Meredith M.)

Apparently, Chef Chu's been rated as one of the best restaurants in the state (and even country). I definitely agree! My family have been dedicated customers for years and years, and we never get tired of it. (In fact, I almost wish I still lived in the Bay Area just so I could eat there!) It's a very popular place and always busy, but the quality of service is consistently high, even when they're packed. It's a family-run business, and they get to know you if you come regularly.

The food, of course, is awesome. I've never had anything there that I didn't like, and although I'm sure the calorie content is still high, things aren't swimming in extra oil/sauce the way they are at some Chinese restaurants. The atmosphere is cool because you can dress up or down and still feel like you fit in; there's usually everything from formal parties to families with crying children there! And the prices are surprisingly reasonable for such a nice place. Don't pass through Los Altos without eating at Chef Chu's (or at least getting takeout)!

4 Stars: Friendly & Accomodatting (by JB M.)

I recently went to Chef Chu's with my family. I had heard about it and driven by many times and finally decided to give it a try. I have a 2 year old son and they were very accomodating. The food was way above the average chinese restaurant. I tried their steamed sea bass which was excellent as well as their "famous" chicken salad. I will definitely be back there with my family!

4 Stars: best chinese chicken salad anywhere (by Ben L.)

Chef chu is famous for their chinese chicken salad... they may not have invented the dish but they sure perfected it. Definitely the best chicken salad out of the many I've sampled. Great for takeout.

Usually I'll pick up food to go, special fried rice, hunan tofu, braised tofu, prawn w/ sizzling rice, the aforemention salad. Sit-down meals are nice too, great atmosphere and the basil chicken dish is killer.

4 Stars: Chef Chus - Great for Work Day Lunch (by Tina M.)

Reasonably priced, very clean and good at getting you in and out for a work day lunch, Chef Chus is one of our office's favorite places to go. Ample parking and a friendly staff make it all the better...

PROS: I have never been served a bad dish
CONS: Can get a bit noisy

4 Stars: yum (by Olggie Z.)

This place rocks. My spouse and I have actually gone here for both of our birthdays. Usually Im not so fond of Chinese food, but this place makes it all good. You can just see all the calories on the food, but you just cant resist it. On weekedns I would recommend to always have a reservation, they do get full because the people know how good it is. There is both a lower floor and and upper floor. The menu is full of everything. I like going here with a big group because then you just pile a whole bunch of stuff onto the lazy susan and get to try everything. I have not get come to find a dish that I hated. Great place with friendly people, definite recommendation.
