San Francisco's renowned PlumpJack group brings their signature sophistication to Napa with this swanky, 27-acre resort. Sprawling orchards, vineyards and rolling farmland are peppered with intimate "cottages"--rustic exteriors that belie elegant, modern interiors rife with amenities such as spacious, spa-like bathrooms, wood-burning fireplaces, private patios and gardens. A full-service spa, an array of dining options and concierge also available. Special packages cater to the whims of even the most cosmopolitan travelers looking for a country getaway.

Ratings_icons Corrugated Metal Construction/Cottages Crowded Too Closely Together!

Mary Beth R. | insider Insider | Rank: 29,218

We were shocked to arrive at the resort & have to drive through a full on construction zone where the Inn is adding more tiny cottages crowded so closely together that you can hear your neighbors in their rooms - and smell the smoke of their cigarettes, we found out. We were woken by the banging & drilling of construction in the early morning hours (construction is set to continue through at least October 2007). The outdoor showers are teeny tiny little corrugated metal rooms with no view & no plants or decor of any kind! (Rather claustrophobic). The rooms were well appointed, but had a stale perfumed odor (in all three of the cottages for our party), we posited it might be a heavily scented air freshener masking an even worse stale or musty scent. Our cottage had a view of the adjoining property's vineyards - but the other two cottages had no view & the patios were all enclosed with the same very unattractive corrugated metal of the showers. It must be oppressively hot in the summer there with all the metal & darkly paved walkways. The landscaping is very immature & provides no shade. At night, rather than fresh air, one is choked by the waxy toxic odor of the duraflame logs each fireplace is equipped with. The Hilltop Restaurant breakfast was really bad - bad coffee, stale bread, poorly prepared entrees. The Farm restaurant however was exceptional. Deliciously seasoned, local organic fare - fabulous salads. I'd happily dine at the Farm again - but would never ever stay overnight in the inn cottages.

Ratings_icons Wonderful place for a luxurious vacation

Anne R. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 332

If you're in the mood to spoil yourself or someone you love, take a vacation at the Carneros Inn. The setting is amazing - they have individual bungalows nestled next to rolling hills of vines. Our bungalow had a flat panel TV, heated bathroom floors, lovely decor, and a private deck (with heat lamp). There is a cute cafe you can walk to that serves a great breakfast and a more casual dinner. The main building of the Inn has a fancier dining room as well as a patio that you can reserve for special events. The spa was phenomenal!

The whole experience is so great that you want to move in.

Ratings_icons Stale Room Odors, Noxious Fumes From F/P, Construction

worldphotographer

Major construction is going on through most of 2007. We woke each morning very early to the obnoxious sounds of banging, drilling and other loud, electric tool sounds. Admittedly, we visited during the off season, but the rooms (three cottages in our party) were all so stale smelling. At night, the waxy, noxious scent of Instalogs fills the air. Unlike the typical tropical (Balinese) lushly planted outdoor showers, the outdoor showers at Carneros are tiny, claustrophobic, corrugated metal enclosures with no vegetation. The patios are enclosed in this same industrial looking corrugated metal. Very, very hot in summer there - immature landscaping provides little shade, lots of metal & paved walkways all radiating heat. The Spa is very small, but we had excellent massages there. Overpriced for a place with cottages so closely set that you can hear your neighbors kids playing, parents talking & smell the smoke of their cigarettes!

Pros: Excellent Cuisine At Farm Restaurant, A few cottages have views of vineyards

Cons: Toxic fake logs make the night air unpleasant, Construction Noise, Cottages Stale & Too Closely Set

Ratings_icons Carneros Inn - Sans Kids

jeremycaudill

The Carneros Inn, one of the the most beautiful places I've ever stayed, impeccable staff I could not find a fault with. There's almost nothing there to shatter your peace..except for 1 thing..KIDS. The Carneros Inn is a "family friendly" place. I didn't know this before we went. For the amount of money you pay to stay in a beautiful, luxurious place like this, you just want to relax, soak up the vineyard and not hang out with the Purple Dinosaur crowd.
With that said, the management assures me that in their Phase II expansion, they are building another pool, far away and the main are will be sans kids. This should be open soon and as soon as this expansion is complete....I'm going back. But, I would check before you drop $1500 over a weekend only to be bombarded at the pool by a game of Marco Polo.

Pros: Luxurious Rooms, World Class Spa, Spectacular Views

Cons: Kids

The Carneros Inn is truly heaven; everything from the chic furnishings to the attentive staff make this one of lifes 'to experience before you die' places. The cottages are appointed with heated floors, jacuzzi tub for two, multiple head shower, flat screen television, and fireplace. You have a private garden which can be used for entertaining or for its el fresco rain-like shower. Although there are two Phillip Wang restaurants, I am especially fond of the BoonFly Cafe. Malarie and Dustin are the waitstaff to ask for. Kathy and Laurie from the concierge desk bedazzled us with their help. Make sure to visit the Inn's signature Spa, followed by a dip in the edgeless pool overlooking the Carneros vineyard. This must be owner, Keith Rogal's idea of where God himself would want to vacation. Bravo, we can't wait to return.

Ratings_icons Breathtaking!

After my first visit, I immediately invented another excuse to go back there asap. Each visit has far exceeded any expectations that I might've had. Now, whenever I'm feeling blue, I close my eyes and imagine myself sitting in the outdoor infinity edge hot tub that looks over the vineyards and all becomes right with the world.
The staff is incredible and attentive - the food is fantastic (the chef even came out to our table to welcome us) and the grounds are breathtaking.
The rooms are so well done and I can't believe the heated slated floors in the bathroom and the indoor/outdoor shower- pure luxury! Speaking of luxury...the spa is to die for! They have these amazing treatments where they slather you with goats milk and other yummy things to make you relax and feel in touch with your surroundings. Once you go you'll be hooked!

Pros: Relaxing, Friendly, Delicious

Cons: , none, none

Just spent the weekend - this is a true gem. The rooms are individual cottages with great bathrooms and comfey beds. Food is great - view is great. Smashing pool and jacuzzi. Staff were so accommodating - and looked happy. Unbelievably good Spa services. I can't wait to go back.

Pros: Great bathrooms, Great Spa, View and Pool
