The new baker in the Mammoth location is great!!! And he speaks english which is a big plus. Keep on baking the best bread ever, I traveled almost 400 miles and don't regret it at all.

We stopped on our way to Reno and after spending 53.00 at the Bakery of which only 10.00 was not "fresh "items. (jams, etc) We were so disapointed when we started to taste the items.

Cinnamon rolls- tasted like they had been left out in the air for the day so stale.
Pecan pull apart bread- same thing not even worth eating after trying to warm in oven to take away dryness. So over the top with spices also.
Apple fritter- had to soften in micro. was edible then but nothing better than local supermarket which isn't saying much.
Raisin/ walnut squaw bread, was Ok after toasting.
Coconut macaroons- Awesome.

Any trip through Bishop isn't complete without a stop at Erick Schats Bakery. If my memory is correct, it used to be called "Schats Bakery" in the old days. When I was in Mammoth about 12 years ago I stopped at "Paul Schats Bakery", and I didn't even bother to check if the name was the same when I stopped there again 2 years ago.

Schats may be famous for its Sheepherders Bread, but I've been partial to its squaw bread since I first had it some 30+ years ago. They have more award winning baked goods than you can shake a stick at, but I especially liked their cinammon pull away bread, Mexican tea cookies, and raspberry jam cookies. I remember my parents used to load up on bread coffee cakes to freeze for later, and I hope one of the two pull away bread loaves I bought yesterday will keep in my freezer for a few months.

my family used to go camping every summer. it would not be a trip home if it was not completed with a stop at schott's. we would always get the pull away bread (with a family of 5 and friends this would usually be gone by the time we got back) and sourdough and sheaphearders bread for home. i always liked the cookies and pastries. this is a great bakery. definitely recommended if you are passing through bishop!

This is a bakery that everyone should visit. They have the all sorts of breads and bakery good. Their cinnamon pull aparts are exceptionally good. They serve a delicious lunch. They also have a counter that has homemade chocolates and caramel apples. The atmosphere is warm, charming and although they are continuously busy, everyone is ready to provide great customer service

Erick Schat's bakery is a must stop either on your way home or up through Bishop/Mammoth. They've got an amazing selection of fresh breads and deli items! We've stopped here twice for lunch, and were very staisfied each time. Definitely worth the crowds.

Pros: Fresh Baked Goods. Fun.

Cons: Crowded, but worth the lines.
