Starr House

Starr House is the BEST!!! I love the place! Renee is awseome! He does not rush you or anything, he does everything possible for your hair to be top notch! He views hair is an art work. He really loves being a hair stylist and it shows that he is passionate for this. He is friendly, kind and very likable. Other salons I went to sucked, but I gave Renee a chance and I am glad I did. I know where to go now when I need my hair to get done.

When I was suddenly hired for an ABC pilot, I had to get my hair updated and looking fabulous fast. While Googling, I found Starr House and their very impressive website filled with press and photos. I was graciously greeted by Karen, who I was shocked to find out was the owner, as she made me feel as if she was welcoming me into her home. I was so PLEASED with the results. My stylist Iwona gave me a sassy new haircut, which my husband LOVES, and did a great job on my color. I was so amazed when even the stylist on the pilot was complimenting my hair. Thank you Starr House for making me feel like a star!

I have been going to Karen for waxings for over 3 years. She is so professional, friendly and efficient. I always feel like I am in and out quickly--she really knows her stuff! The salon has a great vibe and is very welcoming.
It is always such a nice and easy experience going to Starr House. Give this place a try...it's definitely worth it!

After reading all the reviews, I was looking forward to my visit with Chris and Andrea. I'm not the type to spend a fortune on my hair, but I was in dire need of a really good cut and style. They took the time to listen to what I wanted and looked at all the pictures I took with me. They did a great job with the color and cut, I seriously felt like I walked out of a celebrity stylist's place! I got so many compliments on my hair-- it was amazing. I'm a customer forever. And everyone is so friendly :).

I found Christina through a friend a few months ago and feel so lucky. She is very talented performing excellent highlights, great haircuts, and fantastic blow outs, all at reasonable prices. Christina is the total package, she is a talented, friendly, youthful, hip sort of person, which makes your time in the salon pass quickly.

There is only one way to describe Starr Housebest in the business. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, I was treated wonderfully and respectfully. I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment and I didnt have to wait before I was seated for a consultation. Andrea spoke with me about what I wanted, furthermore she really listened and the end result showed. My color looks more amazing than I would have ever imagined. Next, I saw Chris for a cut. Again, I was consulted about the look I was trying to achieve. Then he took time to explain to me before cutting exactly how he was going to cut my hair and the look that it would achieve. It matched up with exactly what I described to him. Products were suggested to match my hair type and cut, but never in a pushy manner. It was done very tastefully and for that reason I purchased a few.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The staff is highly trained, very professional, but also very friendly and easy to talk to. The products suggested work perfectly with my hair type and cut and give me the desired look I wanted. The prices at Starr House are no way excessive for the services you receive. They go above and beyond to ensure your experience is amazing and that you walk out the haircut and color you have always dreamed of.

I've gone to Albert for over a year now and I am always happy with the outcome. Every time I go there I have a horrible description of what I want but it's like he can read my mind! He cuts my hair exactly how I imagined it to be every time. The best part is that the hair cut looks amazing for months at a time. Every stage of my hair growing out looks fantastic.

The only downside is that I get a snobby vibe from whoever is at the front desk. One time she was having a conversation with someone else while I was patiently waiting to pay. I don't mind waiting except the whole time she was insulting my neighborhood!

But other than that the place is great.

This is the first time in my life (an I am a professed salon junky) that I have ever walked into a salon and walked out with that haircut that changes your whole self image. I took Chris a picture of what I wanted (hair stylists hate that) and he made the cut fit me and my personality. I am a walking advertisement for this salon. I can't tell you how many times I get stopped by someone commenting on my hair. I think I look ten years younger (my roommate say s 13, who knows). The comments I've gotten are, "you look hot", "wow", and uh... the guys with their mouths wide open. Thanks Chris! Can't wait to get my color done here.

I started getting my waxing done by Karen, she is the friendliest person with the nicest accent! She told me about Jennifer and introduced me to her, now I get my color and cut done there too. Jennifer is only $50 for a haircut nd $50 for my color, it is so worth it. She is pleasant and so efficient. Thank you guys!

Great cuts. Great color. But what makes Starr unique is the friendly, professional staff. I'm greeted by a friendly (read: not bitchy) receptionist. I'm not ignored, or treated to eye-rolls by some heavily made-up teenager like so many salons I've been to. This place is run by grownups. My appointment starts right on time. Andrea (colorist) and Chris (cutter) actually SPEAK to me about what I want before we start. No one gives me the hard sell about hair products. They're efficient. I don't spend an entire afternoon getting my hair done. I walk out looking great. If you're considering trying Starr House, you should definitely give them a try.

ive lived in san marino my entire life now my husband and i live here and ive been going to beverly hills for my hair cuts for years! i heard about chris about a year ago and have sent all my friends to check him out. not to my surprise hes given ALL my friends the best hair cuts, better than $300 cuts that they've been getting on the west side, which is what he used to charge. we are all lucky to have him out here in san marino.hes definitely the new celebrity here in san marino! thank you chris for moving out here! dont ever leave!

I have been going to Starr House for 2 years. I see Andrea for highlights and Chris for my style and cut. My hair has never looked better. They both always spend the right amount of time with me, listen to my comments and questions and also provide their own professional insight. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Karen is always helpful with products, makeup, brows etc.. It is a bright, cheery, down to earth salon. Weekends seem busy, I prefer going during the week. It would be difficult if not impossible to find comparable experience or skill in this part of town."

I usually get my hair done at Vidal in SF. So, I needed something in San Marino. I heard Starr being mentioned amongst friends, so I googled the name. I was happy to see all the reviews on this site. Although there are some bad reviews, there are a good proportion of good ones as well. I called for an appointment and got one the same day. As I entered, I was greeted with a warm welcome, offered something to drink, and was seated. Kimberly was down to earth, easy to talk to and most importantly, very knowledgeable about hair. The appointment was not unbearably long, but wasn't a rushed session either. She took her time to show me various ways to style my hair. Afterwards, I crossed the street and had lunch at Julienne's.

I went to Starr House for a wax with Karen. She did a great job and it is my new wax salon. I asked her about hair services and she introduced me to one of the top stylists, who took time and sat down to do a consultation with me. I love the concept of this place, I booked my appointment on the spot. Starr House is my new place. Thank you guys!!!

Andrea spent maybe 5 minutes tops with me and in the end it looked like color I could get out of a box. I sat in her chair for over an hour and she never even came to check the result. It was wayyy too pricey for the end result. Chris cut my hair three times and the first cut was great, the second was okay and the third was not good at all. I was bummed because he did such a great job the first time. Too inconsistent for the price :(

I was referred to Starr House by a friend who goes there. I got Hilights and a Hair cut with Andrea and Chris. I thought it was great. I was really impressed with the consultation and that they read what I wrote. We then talked about it and they both gave me just what I asked for. I really liked the salon and the program (send 3 friends get a free service as a thank you) will get me to tell my friends too.

I got a hair cut and color from Kimberly and Andrea but I must say, it wasn't impressive enough. She seemed to be in a hurry and was done in 10-15 mins. There weren't many people in the salon which surprised me since it had some great reviews. Not the one for me!! I am ready to pay the price (and it is expensive ) but I want a style which is worth it.

I had my hair cut with Chris. He was nice enough and did a decent job on the cut (thought not quite what I had asked for). It definitely wasn't worth $75. He seriously only took 10 minutes cutting my hair, only listened to half of what I asked for and didn't even ask if the cut was ok after he finished. I got the impression he was in a hurry to get me out - not a good impression for a first time customer. I wouldn't go back.

I have been looking for a while to find my salon. I read the reviews and tried Starr House. I have now found my salon. Everyone was so nice, friendly and professional. I am really amazed that my hair looks so great and the salon acted like they really wanted me there instead of other salons that act like their doing you a favor for showing up. I was also amazed at the price I expected to pay a lot more for a real West Side experiences. I tired starr house and loved it.

I have tried salons everywhere....West side, East Side, Valley and this salon far out weighs them all. I found it professional, clean, nice and slightly trendy. I called and booked with Andrea for hilites and Kimberly for haircut. Both women talked to me about what I wanted and really listened. That in and of itself was new treatment for a salon. Then they both made nice small talk...but in the end (where it really counts) delivered what I wanted. I don't remember being this pleased with my hair in a long long time. This place is worth the hype and worth the drive (if not close to you). Amazing....

I am a fairly new client of Chris', have been to him a few times and I came to this site today to tell my friend what to look for. Chris is a fantastic hairdresser , he is by far the best cutter I have ever been to (and there have been many!) But when I was in New York I had a great guy there too, and he was very different both personality and style. I was happy with my hair before I moved here and I am equally or even more happy with it now , and it is drastically different. I guess you can't be all things to all people tho. Keep up the great work Chris, my friends and I love you and my entire office is about to make appts too! Oh and Andrea ia a color magician!

ive been going to chris since i moved here from ohio 1 1/2 years ago and weve always kept things simple and within my comfort level, hes always done such a great job doing exactly what i wanted so when i went in for my 5 week cut i told him "do whatever you want i trust you!" and i do trust him and he did do what he wanted after really looking at my face shape and my not so conservative job and lifestyle, and he went for it with his razor and hair flying everywhere and not ofor one second was i nervous and i look great (if i do say so myself!) hes a wizzard with a razor! he also suggested i brighten up my color with andrea who sat down with me and came up with a great gameplan for my haircolor im so excited to color and butcher my hair again! thanks starr house!

Based on online reviews I tried this salon after moving from the East Coast.

I have nothing but praise for Andrea who gave me a full higlight. She really knows her stuff and explained everything.

However, I am incredibly upset about my cut. After telling Chris I wanted to keep my hair long he cut over five inches off. He explained what he was going to do shape/layer wise and said he'd cut off about one inch. Well at the end of the cut he said "i know this is probably more than you expected but it looks so good with the shape of your face....it's so cute." Well, I HATE IT!!! I never wanted it this short. I told him I'd let him decide on the shaping (he said he was going to cut the back a bit shorter) but, again, that I wanted to keep it LONG.

Too bad too because I really really like the job Andrea did but out of principle probably won't go back to the salon. And now I'm left with having to be unhappy with my hair for about ten months until it grows out.. VERY UPSET.

After reading many good reviews from insiderpages I decided to try it out. I got a cut from Kimberly. She took the time to cut my hair and blow dry it. Normally I go to Asian places where they have a hard time understanding what I want because they never fix my hair right. Is it that hard to understand "take a inch off". Here I came out actually loving my hair cut. She even gave me easy tips on taking care of my hair at home. I would recommend giving this place a try.

so i finally got an appointment with chris to get my hair cut, apparently he's the best!i had such a great experience with him and totally enjoyed chatting about all hes done and his past careers! hes so entertaining and fun to watch do what he does best! i cant wait till i need a trim when my AMAZING cut grows out! but from what my friend has told me ( she goes to chris and andrea, his colorist) he gives the best cuts that grow out perfectly!thanks chris! your my new guy!

I have just returned from having one of the most relaxing and enjoyable experiences at the hair salon! And it is last thing Friday and I was fighting traffic and was late! But Kimberly who has just joined this ever growing team had no problem staying behind to give me an amazing haircut, I only wish I had a hot date tonight to show it off! And she is a celeb too, from the TV show Blow Out! Thanks Kimberly, I love my new doo and will definately act on your suggestion of having my hilights brightened by your colorist Andrea. I found Starr House on this site read the reviews and was going to make an appointment with Andrea and Chris. I couldn't get in with them at a time that worked for me and was told that Andrea can take 3 times as many clients as Chris and they have hired a new master cutter. I made an appointment with Andrea and Kimberly and found the 2 nicest and most knowable women that do amazing color and cuts I have ever found. Bonus is Kimberly was on the show Blow Out so I got lots of celb. gossip and great star tips to style my own hair. These chicks really rock. Try Starr House you'll love it.

I was searching for a salon in the area as I have been traveling quite a long way to my other salon and found Starr House. After calling I was really surprised that they do have great pricing. From $50 to $75 and guarantee their work at all prices. I had a $50 dollar haircut and $50 color and was amazed at the quality of the work. I was not expecting much really but walked out feeling like I had a 100 cut and 100 color. I can't say enough great things about this place. Try them!!!

The best Manicurist I have ever been too! I've have sensitive hands & nails, so she puts a lot of attention to detail, like checking my nails before cutting & fileing. she is very clean and sterile. My nails always look great when she is done with me! My french manicure last over a week and are always perfect! my nails have a natural look & feel. I ONLY trust Deana Marie and have for the last 20 years. Every time I go to another salon out of town, they always tell me, who ever does your nails, this is the best job I have ever seen! Deana Marie does not take any more appointment because she is so busy, but try to get one, you never know!

PROS: She is a massage therapist too, she gives a great foot & hand massage!!

Ok I read the reviews- but still went with some hesitation. I called and was indeed greeted by Karen (one of the owners) who asked me about my hair, my expectations- everything and did pair me up with Andrea and Chris (who I wanted to try anyway). I went in filled out my form had a great talk with Andrea and then with Chris and was amazed with what they did. It was what I asked for done quickly and didn't cost West side prices. Wow- Starr House really is what people think it is!!!

I have recently moved to the area and being faced with finding a new salon on top of everything else was overwhelming. But a friend told me about insider pages and I tried found Starr House and can't stop talking about it. I am use to getting good hair cuts and color. But here I got Amazing cut and color. Andrea and Chris were everything I have read and more. Karen did the most amazing make up on me and I left feeling revived and refreshed. Amazing really. A most try for anyone who is looking for the best with out the high cost.

I've gone to Albert a few times and really like how he listens to what I want in a hair cut. He can also cut straight - Many stylists around here struggle with the straight line it seems.

After losing my stylist of 11 years, I was unsuccessful in finding the right replacement. In my journey to find a replacement, I finally settled for a just ok replacement recommended by a friend. After 6 months, my new stylist goes on medical leave and once again I'm left looking for another replacement. I decided to go online in search for a new salon. I searched many websites before coming across Starr House. I read all the positive reviews and decided to make an appointment. This was the best choice ever. This salon is very professional with 1st class service. Chris was great in cutting my hair and Andrea is a master with color. My hair never looked so good and healthy. My search is over. I will continue to go back to Starr House and will recommend to everyone.

I have been everywhere for my hair. Beverly Hills, Brentwood, and West Hollywood. I was a bit scared to try this place beacuse the prices were well nothing compared to the other places I have been. I was blown away to find out that Andrea Auman and Karen Milne the owners both cam from that high end back ground and didn't want to return to that. I went in for my color and saw Andrea she sat down talked, listened, and made suggestions then gave me what I was looking for. I couldn't believe it. For the first time I got the color I wanted for half what I normally have paid. Salons will soon be taking a page from Starr House....high end hair for a great price.

After reading the glowing reviews in insider pages I decided it was time to change my salon, I am NOT disappointed. Andrea colored my hair beautifully and she was efficient, and Chris cut and styled my hair like I have never had it before. They have their own parking in Mission St and there are some cute boutiques and restaurants on the same block. What a find! Give them a try, they make you feel so special.

My friend and I went to this salon last week after reading all these great reviews. Andrea & Chris are the best! I love my haircut and color. It was the best I've ever had anywhere. First and foremost, I just want to thank all the reviews given about Starr House. It's because of your reviews I decided to go ahead and check it out. What did I have to lose? They have a $10 off coupon for first time clients! Can't beat that. Oddly enough, I have now found my long lost hairstylist, which I fell out of reach with at another salon for over a yr., Albert De Dios. As soon as I found out he was now at Starr Hse, I immediately booked an appointment. Yesterday, was my appt. and walked out feeling like an alluring, confident young woman. I was due for a modern look, so I told Albert, "I trust you, surprise me. I need a change" and that's exactly what he did! He choose a very complementing look that is versatily as it is manageable. My boyfriend was also in shock when I surprised him with my new do. He loved it! He couldn't keep his eyes off of me. I am simply unbelievably pleased. I look forward to continued business with Starr House for the long haul. Thank you gratefully Albert, you're a god send!

My friend has been telling me for ages to visit this salon but you know how it is when you have gone to the same place for years! Well, I finally went and wish I had listened to her. My hilights done by Andrea are the best they have ever looked and I didn't need a lot cut off of my hair. Chris is Andrea's cutter, he was booked that day so I had Albert give me a trim and he did exactly what I wanted and styled it beautifully. I even had an eyebrow wax with Karen too, all in one visit. Go visit them, you won't regret it!

I read through Starr House reviews here on Insider Pages and decided I am going to try.

I needed a permanent body wave. I made an appointment with Christina and got the best perm so far. She was attentive, careful and made sure my hair is healthy enough to handle the perm. The wave came out fabulous, the way I wanted it -- and very natural.

Overall, the atmosphere is very friendly and I had a great time. I will go back for a haircut next time.

I definitely recommend Starr House. The atmosphere of the salon is incredibly bright and welcoming. All the staff are friendly and made my visit warm and inviting. Christina is a fantastic hairstylist. I had my hair cut and highlighted by her and she did an excellent job. She addressed all my concerns about cutting my hair at a new salon and allayed all my fears when my cut and color turned out just the way I wanted it! Christina is now my new hairstylist.

I found out about this salon through the reviews on this website. So, I made an appt with Chris. I had my haircut with him last night. The one thing he did that set him apart from all other stylists that I've been to is that he asked me about my hair and its history and what I wanted. He didn't rush me and listened to me. Well, he did an amazing job styling my hair, I loved it. But before deciding if my cut was a good one, I wanted to wait and see how it would be styling this morning. Well, it took 5 minutes and all I did was just blow dry it without using a brush. And it fell into place. I've already had numerous compliments today. I think I've found my hairstylist and I'm going to recommend him to everybody.

I have just come from this salon and am so happy I have found a new place to go! I went in today for leg and underarm wax and left with and eye lash tint and free make over too. Karen is from Scotland and has been a qualified esthetician since the late 80s and she knows her stuff! She is efficient and fun, we had a great chat about family and I can't wait to go back! It is clean and the decor is really lovely. I think I will even go back for my hair services too and have a one stop shop! Try it out.

I went into "star-house" with high hopes... the place looked new, and upbeat. So I was hopeful that I could get the color that I was looking for. I had been "over" processed (said Albert) after re-conditioning my hair,he took my color to a rich natural auburn, with just a few highlights, not that chunky stripe look, but just a little kiss of blonde around my face. Thank you again Albert, I'll be back to see you again!!! OH AND I LOVE MY HAIR CUT!! did not have to wait for it to look good, it looks great right now!! Not too short ! happy ,happy ,happy

How refreshing to find a business that not only discounts students but teachers too!!!! I believe this is the first time I have been given discount on a service because I am a teacher. And I wouldn't care if it was just a buck!! The fact is these smart people have secured my business by just thinking of my profession. Not to mention I had a great visit, my color is fantastic and my cut is chic but easy to style. The discount was just the icing on the cake! Thank you Starr House, I will spread the word!

My daughter wanted to get highlights and a haircut before school started. I took her in to see Jennifer who is young and fun and can relate to my daughter, they instantly bonded!
Jennifer consulted with me first and allowed my daughter to make the ultimate decision, that we were both happy with.
My daughter received the most amazing haircut and a really great highlights- at a price that I was very pleased with!!!
My daughter is thrilled, the experiance was fantastic great value for the money and she told all of her friends. Jenn is a new rising star!

I was told that this salon did waxing so I called and they have just added a new waxing studio, it is so lovely and I had a fabulous leg and underarm wax (well as fab as waxing can be!!!!) Karen is very experienced and knew what she was doing, she is really European, she's from Scotland! My skin felt good afterwards and I had no blotches like I have had in the past. My husband is going to book a back wax too! Try her, she's really good and her accent is refreshing!!!!!!

I went to Starr House today with my friend, they were running on time like my friend said and I left with the best color and cut I have had. Andrea knows her stuff as I have read and indeed Chris was stylish and entertaining! I was offered a make up but my time was short so I can go back another day when I am going somewhere special, and it's still free! How cool is that? They have recently added a waxing studio which is the cutest room so I made an appointment to have my legs and bikini done, this is too good to be true!

PROS: great area, did some shopping too.....

I had actually come to make an appointment at the salon across the street, Sculpt, but the vibrancy of Starr House drew me and I wandered thataway instead and booked an appointment there instead. Connie had just come back from her lunch and took me in immediately.

Service is FRIENDLY, FAST and FABULOUS! I LOVE my new hair cut - Connie was extremely friendly and attentive, and my new hairstyle is so easy to keep!
