I have been a patient of Dr. Dugel's for the past 20 years. I would absolutely trust no other doctor with my eyes. As a retired nurse at Little Co. of Mary, I was keenly aware of Dr. Dugel's outstanding reputation in the community. Many physicians told me of his outstanding clinical acumen and superb surgical skills. He performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes and my husband's eyes and we owe our wonderful quality of life to him, he is a truly gifted, fine, caring human being.

This guy is a complete and utter quack.
1. Staff lies about appointments
2. Doctor availability is never what told. Wait times up to two hours
3. Doctor does not read charts carefully
4. Doctor care was minimal at best

The doctor is rude and has one and only one motivation, MONEY!
Most people I found out go to him through a referral. He is an active and aggressive schmoozer of other doctors NOT in his field. They in turn without anything to go on refer patients to him. He is a meat market type doctor at best. Read these comments they are accurate. I wwatched one patient call the police IN THE WAITING ROOM!
I asked questions myself and determined that I had in three past meetings trusted a potential eye doctor to someone that should not be a doctor. This guy is pure nonsense and his staff runs interference, don't believe me? Easy, go to the office, don't make an appointment, just sit in the waiting room and watch, listen and learn. If they ask why you are there say your meeting a friend who has an appointment. There is no way any resonable human would let an office/doctor like this touch the only two eyeballs they have.

YOU ARE A FOOL to trust the care of your eyesight to such a morally vapid human being.

Look for yourself.

Dr Raj Dugel is an ass. Rude, Arrogant and condescending.

Do yourself a favor and find another Dr.

He is snotty and holier than thou. I will not see him again.

I had heard from a friend that Dr. dugel was called in to fix a complication on her cataract surgery that had gone wrong. The doctor that made the mistake was my doctor (at that time). After hearing from other sources that Dr dugel was a very good doctor, I determined to see him for my cataract surgury. Even though it took 3 months, I changed insurance groups, found and went to a new primary care physician, told him I wanted to be referred to Dr dugel for my cataract, and he agreed. (2 weeks gone). I then made an appointment with Dr. dugel's office (3 weeks more) and waited. When I went in, I was tested by an associate doctor that said I did indeed have cataracts. I then was told to make another appointment to see Dr dugel, (6 additional weeks). In the meantime my cataracts have been progressively getting worse. I have a hard time to read, and see things in bright light.
After 3 months of waiting and dread for what was to come, I went it to see Dr. dugel. I was checked by another associate doctor, and told to wait and Dr dugel would be right in. Oh, did I mention that I arrived at 2:00PM , and did not get to see the doctor until 3:15 PM
When I saw him, he told me I had to go back to my original doctors office. I was stunned. I had spent 3 months waiting, $40 in co-payments and he rejected me.
When I asked him why, he said that what I was doing was not allowed. He said I could go to another doctor from the same office as I previously had gone to. I pointed out that I had changed medical groups, so I could not, but he informed me that his good friend that ran the other medical office was also a member of the group I had changed into. He said he (his good friend with the other office) was just as good as he (Dr dugel) was . I said I did not want to use that office because I did not feel comfortable after I left the previous doctor from that office. He said no, I had to go back to the previous office. He tried to give me some phone numbers to call. I don't know whom, or why. At that point I was in extreme shock and could not stand to wait in the office of the doctor that had rejected to help me after all of my waiting and work to see him. I left. I did not scream, or become angry, I just told the receptionist that I was upset and I was leaving. I left.

After preparing myself mentally for 3 months to have someone stick needles into my eyes, and cut them open, I could not believe that the only thing he cared about was his worry that he might offend his friend (the other doctor). I left without arguing. What was the point? I did not want a doctor that did not want me for a patient to be cutting into my eye.
The next day (yesterday) I called his office and politely requested to be refunded my $40 co-payments. I am waiting to see if they comply. I paid this money in good faith and my insurance company paid him a much larger amount. Since he rejected me, I have to go through the time, the expense and the agony of looking for a new doctor (another 3 months?). The work he and his office was paid for is rendered worthless. Since it was his decision to reject me, I don't believe he deserves to be paid for any work his office did on me previously. Anyway, I am waiting now to hear if his office will refund the money.
UPDATE: I did not receive my money back. No other doctor will accept raj's office testing. I will have to pay for the same testing again at a new doctor. This means the work he did is worthless, but he will not refund my money. He is Wrong. I have opened a complaint with the insurance company and am filing a complaint to the state board of medical licensing accusing him of "Patient abandonment".

My kid was having eye irritation and was rubbing the eye before a weekend. Sine we had visited Dr Dugel couple of times in the past, we got an urgent appointment and went to his office at 4:15 PM on a Friday. We were told that our insurance was not covered and I need to pay for the treatment. I called my insurance and obtained all required data right in their office. Having learnt that I was covered under the insurance his office started asking for authorization from my kid's primary physician after 5 PM. Now they were not even ready to see my kid even I was ready to pay the money they asked me earlier. We were asked to leave and see any ER. They didn't answer me when i asked why the insurance issue was not brought up when I asked for the appointment. I was completely disappointed the way we were handled in his office. I am not going there again. I would advise you folks to make sure all the insurance matters before you approach Dr. Dugel's office else you will also have same disappointment.

Was referred to Dr. Dugel after experiencing eye flashes. After waiting an hour was seen by an Optometrist, not an Ophthalmologist as the referral stated. After 2 hours was seen by Dr. Dugel who noticed I seemed upset. I said I wasn't upset with him, but his office. He said either way I should leave and see someone else!!! No attempt to learn why I was upset, no apology!!! When I said I'd be sure to let my insurance provider know how I was treated, he replied "Like I care".

In my course of encounters with eye surgeons (I've a severe astigmatism and am nearly blind without my glasses - I've seen many a Ophthalmologists) Dr Dugel Raj is by far my choice physician when my pupils go paltry and pale.

His practice is fully insured and the walls are flooding in professionally presented University diplomas and various awards presented to the finest in such a complex field.

Upon my first visit, I was thoroughly examined as per my HMO would provide - BUT Dr Raj even offered free dilation! After later research (My previous ophthalmologist did this every 4 years) i uncovered the dire importance of such a simple task and greatly thanked Dr. Raj.

Prices are reasonable and he accepts most insurance plans. His office is design-book worthy, true artistry.

When my own opthamologist was out of town for 2 weeks, and I had eye pain, I was able to get an appointment to see Dr. Dugel. I had not been to him before, and he was a Blue Cross-Blue Shield Preferred Provider. He quickly determined my problem was not with my eyes, and he gave me 3 referrals to an ENT doctor. He also ensured I would get proper follow up treatment. I intend to change doctors now. His office just got a new computerized chart program that makes nice, neat patient charts, too.

PROS: Easy, free parking
CONS:
