"The Med" - the perfect gathering spot located in Hermosa Beach on the Pier. Since our grand opening in 2003, Mediterraneo Restaurant and Bar has become a "can't miss" destination for locals and visitors from California, the nation and the world. An extensive tapa menu and an eclectic blend of Spanish, Italian, French and Greek cuisine, we offer something for everyone. We also have an impressive wine list, featuring 30 wines by the glass; and a vast, creative spirit selection. Hermosa Beach's finest Mediterranean restaurant.

Location, location, location. This great restaurant is right on the Hermosa Beach pier. If you like to be in the middle of the action on Pier Avenue, then you should sit on the patio. The food is good and the price is fair.

by roxyqs26
This place has never dissappointed me. the food is awesome.. if you like tapas, GO.
I come here once a week with my boyfriend-- we are mid 20's. We sit outside everytime and you can't beat the happy hour! just wish it lasted longer so I wouldn't have to leave work early to get there!! =)
Pros: EVERYTHING!
Cons: only thing is you can't see the water from the patio (none of the pier restaurants do cept Hennesey. bad food there though)

MY FAVE SPOT @ HB
by coconutbaby67
I love, love, LOVE this place! I probably eat here at least 5 times a month. The bartenders and waitresses are always helpful and happy! Not to mention the Happy Hours are fun and Mondays & Tuesdays are buy 1 tapa get 1 free! You can't beat that! The atmosphere is great, the decor is tres chic and the patio's full of people to watch!!
Great place!! I<3 it!
Pros: Tapas and Reguler Menu, Great drinks and even better staff!
Cons: Parking and wait from Friday through Sunday! So be prepared!

Bad service, atmosphere, dessert, and drinks
by nmartinez
If it were not for the pictures at the top I would think I was not reviewing the same place. This was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. First the seating is so crammed together it is not as enjoyable to "people watch" as you may think and then they shove under heating lamps that make you feel like a rotiserie chicken. We asked them to turn the lamp down or move us (three times) and even though other tables became available they did not. We only ordered desserts but they were very dry and tasteless and the sauces/creams described with each was not what we recieves. The apple martini I had was also bad, it was basically pure alcohol. Which maybe for some it good but it burned the whole way down.
Pros: Not a long wait for a table
Cons: bad food, bad drinks, bad service

Best Restaurant in the South Bay!!!
by moniquekm
I love this place!! I came here for a birthday party and its now my favorite spot! Not your typical cheesy South Bay restaurant. Great menu, wines you'll love and a great view. Dinner is wonderful and lunch on the weekend is worth it!! Its a definite must - plus, its the best mediterranean food you'll find in LA.
Pros: Spacious dining area, great wine list and friendly staff!
Cons: none

Love this place
by tara202
The food here is amazing. I don't think there is one bad thing on the menu, so no matter what you order, you can't go wrong here!!! The specialty martinis are great also. This is the best tapas restaurant I have been to. Friendly and fast service too.
Pros: delicious food, great martinis, friendly service, outdoor or indoor eating, great location and views
Cons: None

Crowded & Loud
by stevekerver
Ok- to be fair, I don't even know if the 2 star rating is valid, because I didn't stay here long enough to eat.
The reason I decided to come here was because I was meeting up with a first date who lives in Redondo. But, when I looked around and noticed the great deal of spill-over from the Hermosa Beach Pier party scene, along with a good number of tourists, I decided this wasn't the place to have my first date.
Sure- if you're down at the HB Pier and want to go someplace a little more upscale than what surrounds it (Like Hennessy's, the Poopdeck, etc.), you may fare well, its just not the secluded out-of-the way tapas place to go for a first date...
Pros: Its a *convenient* location...
Cons: Crowded and loud location attracts tourists and wayward HB party scene.

Great Tapas and People Watching
by southbaysparkle
Visited this establishment for the 1st time this past Friday evening with friends and a guest visiting from out of town and had a fabulous time. Took the time to make reservations - highly recommended because this place gets packed on the weekends - and specified an outside patio table which is really the way to go. There are heaters on the patio so no one got cold even though our reservations were for 7:45pm. We all ordered from the tapas menu and shared amongst ourselves. The portions were actually well-sized and very tasty. We ordered 1 or 2 per person and it was plenty for the entire group to graze on. There are a variety of cold and hot tapas to satisfy most tastes and as a vegetarian, I was very pleased with the number of meatless options. EXCELLENT PLACE to people watch whether you are checking out the rest of clientele at Mediterraneo or watching the maddening crowd surge down the Hermosa Pier -- really it is half the fun of going there. Highly recommended for an entertaining and tasty al fresco meal about as close to the beach as you can get.
Pros: Great place to hang out, take your time & dine, and check out the crowd
Cons: Can get pricey and crowded on the weekends.

Best tapas in the South Bay
by gravtgrl
Some very close friends introduced me to this little gem. I have been grateful to them at every Mediterraneo dining experience since then. Every time I've tried tapas in the past, I've been underwhelmed, but the food here is outstanding. Well-prepared , fresh and flavorful. Out with the pretentious "fusion foods" that have been so popular and in with unique combinations of tastes that just work on the palate and have you craving more! The staff is warm, knowledgeable and responsible - by this I am referring to the fact that I ordered one dish that I was not personally fond of and so I ate very little of it. My waiter noticed that I had hardly touched it and asked if I wanted to have it removed from the bill. This is the kind of service that encourages people to try new foods without trepidation. I really appreciated that! Must-have's: Patatas Bravas (spice fingerling potatoes), Mini meatballs (so tasty!), Lamb chops with Quinoa (comforting), Seafood Pasta (scallops cooked to perfection!) and one surprising little dish are the dates wrapped in prosciutto - rich and delicious! They also serve the best mojitos I've ever had - complete with sweet sugar cane sticks! If you live in the South Bay, you must experience this place. If you're outside of the area, it is worth the drive. Be sure to take a stroll down the Hermosa Beach Pier while you are in the area. It is just steps away! Bon apetit!
Pros: The food makes it all worth it.
Cons: Parking can be a nighmare on the weekends.

Great Tapas, excellent wine list and seafood
by flipflapjack
First restaurant I went to while in LA, and was glad I did. The Tapas was excellent )(buffalo mozzerella wraped in zuchini with balsamic) and the blue nose sea bass was outstanding. Their wine selection is great, as well as their list of microbrews. It tends to get busy, but the outdoor seating in November was a welcome relief for this native Pittsburgher.
Pros: ambience, proximity to nightlife, service, wine selection

Wonderful Tapas!
by frakestraw
I visited this past summer and enjoyed my lunch on the patio sipping the best mojito I've ever had. I had lots of different tapas, so many I can't put my finger on which was my favorite. The experience was wonderful all around. I will be back next time I am in town!
Pros: Wonderful food, great service

Classy dining, tasty tapas, reasonably priced!
by georgeandanna
We were visiting from the midwest and were delighted to find such class and sophistocated Mediterranean cuisine just off the strand in Hermosa Beach. We like scallops and have never had any better than the seared delicacies from Chef Amber Caudle's grill. The nice thing about Chef Caudle's tapas is that we sampled lots of dishes without killing the wallet. Try the salmon, or the lamb, or the pastas, or (I could go on...). Compliments to the chef!

great tapas and prices...if you go during happy hour
by rachel1215
the tapas are tasty and the atmosphere is nice. sure, tapas arent going to be priced like they are in europe (hence, bc theyre IMPORTED). BUT, the greatest thing about this place is that they do have 2-for-1 tapas specials. i believe its still on tuesdays from 5-7pm. when im in town, i go with my family and we are stuffed at the end with a couple of plates and a jarafe of sangria. the bill comes out to less than $40 everytime and were satisfied.
service is so-so. with so many dishes, you really need to know your stuff especially since most people are not familar with this food. that is key, so i can see why people would complain about the service.
Pros: happy hour, good cali-styled tapas (not authentic but still good)
Cons: service not completely up to par, no matter how good-looking they are

great food, service and atmosphere
by csmith99
This restaurant has a very relaxing, elegant atmosphere with delicious tapas and a great wine selection in addition to a full bar with homemade mojitos and sangria. It is located on the walkstreet of Hermosa Pier right where all the action is. We sat outside and just relaxed for a couple of hours, it was highly enjoyable.
Pros: food, location, atmosphere

The Worst Mediterranean Food I've Ever Had...
by hiphophead
If I wasn't a nice guy, I would have ran out of here without paying. Wow, this was seriously not only the worst Meditteranean food I've ever had, but perhaps the worst FOOD I've ever had. It's basically a tourist trap that attracts helpless out-of-staters who are fooled by the restaurant's location. We ordered "tapas," which are anything but that, and were instead served with bland, overpriced fare. The spicy shrimp plate was basically 3 small shrimp sauteed in oil. The rest of the menu was similar, with tiny portions, high prices and no flavor or authenticity. You're better off grabbing a slice of pizza from a place up the street. Even that is more "Meditteranean" than this place...
Pros: Location
Cons: Food, Price
