This is the second repair shop I use in SB area.
After getting repeatedly ripped off in my previous garage, I decided to go to Jeff and will continue to do so.
First, it is as close to UCSB as you can get - few minutes by bike.
Second, interaction with Jeff is easy and drama free. It helps if you give him a list of things you want to get done - lI think that people giving negative feedback here did not make clear t to Jeff what were their expectations/problems.
Third, pricing is very reasonable.

I recommend the shop to anyone. Make appointment, give Jeff a to-do list and be sure you get stuff well done.

Pros: family owned, inexpensive, honest, close to the UCSB

Cons: parking at the shop is tight

These guys have worked on my cars a few times, and boy did they mess up! They act very arrogant and talk down to you about your own car, even when we've had it for 20 years and have done most of the work ourselves! On both cars, they came out running way worse than when we took them in! Then they give you the run-around and tell you that it's your fault! After taking it back to get them to fix the problems they created, it was followed only by more incompetence.
They even yelled at me by saying that I had caused all of these problems, although I had just driven away from their garage!
I hear that these guys used to be good, but that was years ago. I later spoke with some others who have had similar recent experiences, and they will not return, either.
The only reason I wanted to put this review here was to warn other innocent people before they also become victims...

Pros: None

Cons: Incompetent, Rip Off!

I've used these guys a few times over the years and have always found them to be really nice and helpful, and not expensive. I've taken a couple of used cars I was thinking about buying to them to be checked out before purchase and they gave them an inspection including a test drive and didn't even charge me. When I've had something they couldn't do they referred me elsewhere, which I appreciate. When I worked at UCSB they'd give me a ride to work. I recommend them highly. You should also check out the reviews here (which is where I found out about them in the first place): www.cartalk.coom/ct/mechx/shop.jsp?id=3753

(CitySearch won't let me put a real URL here so you'll have to take the extra "o" out of ".coom", or use Google and search for "CarTalk Mechanics Files" then enter a Santa Barbara zip code.)

Pros: Honest, friendly, inexpensive, go the extra mile

Cons: None that I know of

.

Ya they are cheap because they neglect to tell you whats wrong with your car and do band aid repairs. Ya sounds good for a while until lack of knowing whats wrong with the vehicle because of good check out reports leads to major costs of replacement parts. Go here if you want to be in denial about maintenance.

Pros: cheap

Cons: everything else

I've had many different mechanics in Santa Barbara and I've finally found one that treats me right. I used to have a pretty old american car with more problems than miles. They were always honest with me though and never tried to con me. They always managed to get me limping back on the road for a couple hundered bucks. I also took advantage of their cheap tow service many times and Jeff (the owner) has given me many a rides to work.

Now that I have a nice new car they are still the only ones that I trust. None of this 40k mile checkup that costs $500, he simply checks it over every time i get an oil change. Even now that I live hundreds of miles away I prefer to see him for all my maintenance needs when I visit friends and family.
