I love the Chimneysweep its the "cheers" of the valley... You can kick back and listen to music or play pool or darts.

After only a few visits everyone will know your name...

If you're not looking for anything remotely trendy, but feel like relaxing with people that you're not trying to impress, you will probably have a good time at this local dive. Enjoy unlimited free popcorn. You can play your favorite tunes on the jukebox. I think there's a separate room with a pool table, but I haven't gotten that far. The bar is pretty dark, and there's a fireplace you can sit around. Relax with some friends, and enjoy a low-key night out.

The Sweep used to be one of my favorite anonymous watering holes in the valley. Great place to just roll out with a few friends, grab a drink or two, hang out, listen to some tunes, shoot some pool and not be bothered. They last few times though, they seem to have forgotten they are a dive bar in the valley. Waits to get in. Attitude at the door. This place is a dive bar and now takes up famous "Hollywood tactics" such as making people wait in a line outside even though the place is empty inside. Avoid at all costs until they wake up. If I wanted to go out to a place like this I'd go over the hill. Check out The Green Frog just down the street instead. They get it there.

My Valley pals introduced this place to me a few months ago, and I wasn't disappointed. The bartenders might have one foot in the grave, but they still know how to pour a beer or mix a drink. The ambiance is a throwback to a rumpus room in a 1970's Ohio basement. The jukebox has something for everyone. There's a steady influx of hipsters, including plenty of pretty young ladies who are actually willing to talk to guys (*gasp*)! A note to newcomers: don't stand in front of the unmarked door toward the back, waiting for someone to come out... it's a supply closet, not a bathroom!

Pros: Hip, low-key, cheap

Cons: well, if you don't already live in the Valley, then you're looking at a schlep.

I've been to "The Sweep" a few times. It was't bad the first couple times. Good crowd. It seemed like they needed another bartender or two. The last time I went I wasn't impressed. I showed up with a bunch of friends and the "bouncer" kept us waiting for quite a while--so long that we decided just to go somewhere else. It's really not the type of place thats worth the wait in my opinion.

Pros: Younger crowd, lots of ladies

Cons: Too crowded, staff rude

In Short
Leather booths, swivel chairs and wood wall paneling create a fun, retro feel largely free of pretense-- "Cheers" if it were a happy dive. The staff often remembers patrons and their friends after only one or two visits…
