The osso bucco was delicious here! It was tender and the meat just fell right off the bone. Other dishes I recommend are sea bass and lamb chops.

It is a classic trattoria environment, so crowded and noisy but this contributes to the environment.

I found the service to be excellent and highly recommend OlivA.

Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum. Wow..mmm. Ok I'm done salivating for now. My fiance and I went here for lunch yesterday. The place is really cute & looks pretty new. I'm gonna start off by saying do not leave here without trying the calamari!! Omigosh it is so meaty & plump & it literally melted in my mouth. (my finace does not even like calamari and he did not stop eating it & kept ranting about how good it was). The service was really nice, the owner came by a couple times making sure everything was right & I seriously felt like I was in italy cause he's italian & was speaking it to some other customers. I just fell in love with the food & the atmosphere. So their bread that they bring you & the olive spread is DELICIOUS! Calamari was delicious..then I got my food and wow I left there thinking I was really gonna explode. I don't think I've ever eaten that much. I got the fettucini alfredo add shrimp & the pasta was so freesh & the sauce was yummmy! My fiance got the risotto with the clams & tomato sauce (forgot the name) and he finished his entire plate as well. Then they brought us a complimentary tiramisu (don't know if it's cause they liked us lol or if that's a regular thing they do). It was really creamy & perfect amount of soggyness, Yum I seriously can't wait to go back. This place knows authentic italian. Please try it & share your experience with me, I'm in love!!

Ohh one more thing, for the daters out there-this is a good date spot. The look is quite elegant inside but you don't really have to get too dressed up. You could totally go with jeans or some slacks/dress.

What an awesome restaurant! My old college roommate came here with her husband and got a flyer for the wine tasting event and she invited me and a couple of our friends.

The evening started at 530pm. we got to taste 10 wines for $25 and it included some tasty bruscetta! yuuum!

After we paid, we made our way to the dining room. I ordered the fruite de mare special with angel hair pasta. I had asked for the white wine sauce which was outstanding, my food was very tasty! There was sooo much seafood! the mussels were huge and there were tons of squid and clams. yuuum. I also tasted a bit of the seafood risotto and the clam white wine sauce with angel hair pasta. Both of those were awesome. I look forward to going again soon, in fact Im organizing a reunion which their HUGE private room would be PERFECT for! Excellent Food, wine and atmosphere!

To top it all off the bread and olive spread were super yummy and the staff were awesome. I will be coming back for more!

I have been driving passed Oliva for years and a friend just recently recommended it.
A group of us went for dinner last night and the food was to die for. I never knew a place like this existed outside the city area. The ambiance was so cozy, felt as if you were dining in Florence. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious.
Great for a romantic date or a group of friends.

Pros: Fresh pasta made daily, cozy ambiance

I've been to Oliva's Trattoria twice, and have loved it both times. The food is great (I had the linguine and clams last time), the service is really good, and its authentic Italian food. Be careful of the specials, as there's no prices on the specials menu, and the food can be twice was the regular menu prices are.

Certainly would recommend going though, and enjoying the atmosphere. Feels like an old taste of Italy, where Mama is in the back making your pasta!

Pros: Good food, valet service, reservations available

Cons: Street Parking is ough, packed house on weekends

I have been here many times and usually I have a wonderful meal. Tonight, my salmon was fishy and terrible. The manager refused to do anything about it. I would have definately returned if he would have made another piece of salmon, but he refused. I will never return this restaurant.

Our party of four was rushed through dinner. Plates were cleared before everyone was finished. At a point just under an hour and a half, the person who appeared to be either the owner or maitre d' asked us to leave, so he could give our table to another party. One of us had not yet finished dessert! The owner offered to send us to the bar for a drink, but the insult was such that we had no interest in remaining. A better course of action might have been to offer the next party drinks on the house in the bar until we were finished. Suffice it to say that we will NEVER patronize this establishment again.

On Christmas eve 2009 we ate here. Had a nice meal until we went to get our car from their valet service. Somehow the valet stuck the wrong key into our door and then screwed up our alarm. We had to be towed home. The alarm ended up OK, but the car had to be re-keyed for $125.00 on Christmas day. The valet's insurance company denied our claim in just 5 days and would not return phone calls after that. The owner of the restaurant was notified and he took no responsibility for a service he contracted. He offered us a free bottle of wine the next time we came in. Not likely we ever will eat there again. Be warned if the valet screws up your car, you will not be paid easily. Definitely not good business practices for the restaurant or their valet service.

I was impressed that this restaurant serves a saffron-based sauce with their ravioli. It's a subtle flavor that is refreshing. The restaurant itself it sort of small and intimate, and while good, the food didn't blow me away.

If you are one who understands TRUE Authentic Italian Cuisine, GO TO OLIVA!!!! I go specifically for the worlds best Lasagna, brisket, fresh scampi, lobster pasta special...The list goes on. It's funny as I read another review from EVELinLA she's a person who clearly dosen't understand TRUE ITALIAN CUISINE. THEY DON"T make Lasagna in Northern Italy with Pasta...they make it with the most delicate delicious Crepes just as the owner does at Oliva. They don't use mascarpone cheese, they use Beschamel. Their Lasagna is TRULY AN AMAZING PARTY for the Mouth!!! TRY THE BURRATA, fresh creamy mozzarella that melts in your mouth! TIRAMISU is better here than ANY restaurant in LA. 10+ for not americanizing the Italian in Italian food!!!!! BRAVO!!!

Okay - I've been here before and enjoyed the seafood and my husband loved the brisket. Maybe we thought the experience was better because we didn't pay but the server had 'attitude'.

This time, it was far worse. The waiter (also host) was yelling at a busboy in the middle of the restaurant. My lasagna came out and the noodles were like mushy glue. I called the waiter over and he explained this is the way it's served - they don't dry the pasta after making it so it comes out this way and also said 'you aren't the first and you won't be the last who doesn't like it'. Okay - I understand but the attitude was disappointing. They finally prepared a new dish but my husband was done eating.

We won't be going back.

I love this place! Not only are the Italian waiters/waitresses charming, but the food and service are extrordinary! The Cecca and pizza bread that you get when you sit down is so delicious! You have to try their Italian Beef Brisket...It's amazing. Best Tiramisu in LA and amazingly enough every time I've been there I've been in the company of many well known people in entertainment. I guess the secret is out! This place is the Best!

I just moved to the area and was really excited to get some wonderful Italian food. From the looks of the place, I was expecting some good things. It does have nice romantic feel to the place. However, from the moment I called to make a reservation all the way to waiting to pay my bill, there was nothing but one disappointment after another. Our waiter treated us more like he was doing us a favor by serving us and not giving a welcoming feeling at all. Then 25-30 minutes after we ordered, our server comes and tells us that "the kitchen" is having problems, and he didn't know what I ordered. Then I thought to myself, maybe he should of wrote it down 30 minutes ago when I ordered instead of coming over and asking me. Then 5 mins later, he comes over and says, "that HE FIXED it for me", almost as if he had corrected a mistake that I had made!? Are you kidding me? So from the time we ordered to the time our food was on the table, was about 45 minutes. I had practically lost my appetite by that point and was on the verge of walking out. After all this, I was thinking maybe the food is gonna be great. Well what another disappointment that was. I could of made a better pasta dish and eggplant at home by myself. All in all I would never torture any of my friends or family to go through this experience. Do yourself a favor and cook at home!!!

I love this restaurant. First of all, their tomatoes (checca) that they serve as a sort of bread basket are AMAZING. I could eat those as a meal! They have great fish, although not many options...just salmon and a special. The restaurant itself is very comfortable yet almost always crowded. Service is lovely, and prices are pretty reasonable. Definitely recommend.

This place has good food, and reminds me of trattorias we visited in Italy. The bruschetta starter is excellent, I also recommend their tomato soup and calamari appetizers. The main courses I've had here (ravioli with sage sauce, chicken) are also excellent. Only problem is that it's a modestly sized space, and gets very crowded & loud on weekends. Make a reservation and come early!

Oliva was great! The food was just wonderful and so was the service. In fact they bordered on giving us too much service. Our main waiter was very helpful, but he had a thick Italian accent (I am unsure if it was a real accent or he's an actor working in his accent). Either way it made it a bit hard to understand him when he listed the specials. The mood was excellent and this restaurant has a ton more character than the chain Italian Rastaurants.

Amazing food but the customer service was the worst I have ever had. I ordered food for pick up and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Upon my arrival, it became clear to me that my order was never put into the kitchen. We ended up waiting for over an hour at the restaurant. The hostess never admitted their mistake and kept telling us it would only be a few more minutes. The management never came over to us to offer us complimentary anything while we waited and basically just ignored us. Upon recieving our order almost an hour after it was supposed to be ready, I asked to speak to a manager. The manager was very condescending to me when I asked why management never came over to speak to us. He told me that they dont like to "make the situation worse" aka they want to try to ignore it. I explained to him that I used to work in food service and understood delays in the kitchen but I dont understand bad service and management. They never even offered us compensation for having to wait so long. The manager never took responsibility nor did he formally apologize. I hope that this was just a bad night for I have been there before and never had a problem. I hesitate in ever returning to this restaurant because of the disrespectfully way that I was treated.

This was a pleasant surprise! Tucked away on a busy stretch of Van Nuys Blvd., Oliva is a cute Italian restaurant. Great, prompt service and a nice menu led to a fantastic meal. The gnocchi with meat sauce tasted fresh and hot and the portions were a perfect size. Like a good restaurant, they will make tailor a dish to your specifications by changing the sauce or the type of pasta with no questions asked. Even the cappucino was a surprise. Although its location (and parking) on Van Nuys Blvd. may seem a little daunting this is a little breath of North Jersey in Sherman Oaks, and a good value.

I have not found any other italian restaurant that comes close to this cute place. I try to eat there at least every month. The food is wonderful and light (the pasta never feels like it's drowning in sauce). The bread they bring out for you along with the tomatoes/garlic are so delicious and enough to make you full before you even order your dinner! The chocolate cake for dessert is one of the best I've had. And the owners are so nice and attentive (I don't think I've ever gone to a restaurant before where the entire staff says goodnight as you are leaving!). I feel like this is one of the few authentic Italian restaurants around.

I have come to Oliva several times and had the pleasure of the most outstanding "all Italian" service anywhere outside of Italy. The food is remarkably consistent! Great affordable wine list! Best deal anywhere on Valentines day! They only charge $40/person (most places get you for atleast $75 per person) plus they are so accomodating and everything is always FRESH!! Best trattoria in Los Angeles!!!!

Highly expensive. The food was horrible, my husband had lobster that had gone bad. Fish is not supposed to smell and my chicken was tough and tasteless. Our salads both came without dressing and were wilted. We left without dessert and paid $91 for bad service, bad food and made our valentine's day, bad, bad, bad! No love was present at this place! Also they packed us in like sardines, so my husband and I had to yell at eachother if we wanted to be heard.

we really weren't impressed with the cooking at this place. we came on a saturday and the place was pretty full so we had a bit of a wait. we ordered the caprese salad as a starter and that was pretty good, very fresh mozzarella. the main courses weren;t as good; i had the spaghetti mare which was very saucy and not much else. nothing else looked that great on the menu though. the desserts were pretty good; the ricotta cheesecake stood out more than the tiramisu. probably not a place we'd go to anytime soon.

Never mind that i am 100 Lbs If there is one thing i know its good food. Not only is the food outrageous Luigi and Giorgio provide excellent service and can accomodate even the most bizzare requests. Sadly our dog Luigi past away 2 days before my husbands birthday. I asked if we could have a table outside for 10 so we could bring our dog Lena (we didnt want to leave her by herself) No problem !!! They set up a large table on the sidewalk just for us. If you get a chance to meet Giorgio he is a riot! Drinks are amazing and the "turkish coffee" is great. They have a great selection of wine and liquor just ask what they recommend and you cant go wrong.

Things started off really well - we ordered a house cocktail which were brought promptly and then we ordered our salads and entrees. The first thing that's odd is that there's a full bar but no bartender - it appears all the waiters make their own drinks. Big problem. Long story short we never saw our waiter again and had even told him we wanted a bottle of wine - guess he didn't want a $30 sale for the restaurant. We had to ask other waiters if we needed anything. And there was a manic waiter RUNNING up and down the very narrow aisle putting himself and patrons in jeopardy. Oh, the salads were good but the safretto ravioli was bland and the steak dry and tasteless.

Pros: none to speak of

Cons: Service

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Inside, walls are covered by murals of Italian images. Waitors are friendly and love conversation. The bread baskets are filled with wonderful bread and comes with a flavorful bruschetta mixture. The food is really good and affordable here, but be wary of the daily specials with lobster. You may end up spending $30 on a bowl of cioppino.

This little gem is definitely a find! The food is light, classic Italian dishes, but creative innovations as well will please the palet. Gracious portions, inviting atmosphere, great staff service, nice wine selections. Oliva is pleasing all around.

I'm from New York and I've had a hard time finding a true "Italian" Restaurant here in L.A. Oliva is not only the best italian I've had but the service is prompt and courteous and the atmosphere is very charming. I highly recommend Oliva for an outstanding dining experience.

I try to go to Oliva at least once every couple of months. The food is very good and the service is outstanding. They treat you like a regular even if you aren't one, and their prices are very reasonable. Try to get a table near the wall. They are a bit more private, and since the restaurant has very high ceilings, you can feel very exposed at the tables in the middle of the restaurant.
