I have been into fitness for years...The truth is ..I was a Jazz Dancer for many...Worked out with the best and later joined different clubs to find one that really worked...The staff of the Sports Club LA is great....The cleaniest club for sure... I will never go to another....They keep their showers meticulous............You cannot beat the equipment...State of the art with knowledge trainers...Yep...Everyone is in great shape...I adore Michael who runs the Spa..Ray was very fair and is now running another club...They go out of their way to make me comfortable.......

I'm glad to see all of these reviews of the Sports LA club. I was considering moving from Bodies in Motion on Bundy and Olympic to another club but for $100 less per month...and customer service that is pretty good compared to what I'm seeing here. I think i'll stick with BIM!

In this day and age, nobody should be settling for some blowhard "RAY"?...who thinks he's better than the big bucks customers are paying every month. If he offends enough people, that could really hurt their bottom line and ol Ray might find himself in the unemployment line!

Thanks again for the candid reviews...and i totally didn't believe that GLOWING write-up of the club. It was obviously a plant. If they took care of their customers and brought the prices down to what they should be, maybe they wouldn't need to troll the reviews!

And I'm sorry, the first big turn off was when I went to their website and saw all "stars" listed. If I had to work out next to MOST of those horrible people, i'd find another gym first. Why in the world would I want to be near any of those people? I go to the gym to work out hard, then leave. I don't have any interest in "hob nobbing"...what a joke.

I just joined a month ago, and this place is addictive. Note: I am somewhat of a fitness junkie. I hit up yoga here twice a week, and I have found the quietest time of the day to do my personal workout in peace (not telling you what time THAT is). This is the place to be, if you're serious about working out and serious about paying the monthly.

This place is the worse gym that I have ever been too. And they have their people put up fake reviews to boost their declining image. The reviews on Google were really bad like 2 stars and they had that all taken down. This place over charges people and the people who work there are really rude. I suspect that they are related to the GM or owner. Five minutes after I quit, they started to call me. The calls went on for 2 weeks. The I started to get mail from them. In this economy, this place will be a Wall Mart in months. Save your money.

Pros: Top notch facility and trainers

The SCLA on Sepulveda has everything--top notch workout facility; professional trainers; beautiful spa; pool; basketball; racket sports; sundeck; great food--you really can't compare to any other fitness facility in the city.... and the people who work there are so nice from the valet parking attendants, housekeeping staff all the way to the management! It's just the best..worth every $$$

Pros: FABULOUS OASIS

The Sports Club LA has everything you could ask for- more classes than you could dream of, private training, pilates, yoga- extremely clean work-out areas and locker rooms. There is also an amazing spa, salon, great restaurant and cafe.
The spinning classes are amazing and the personal trainers are great. Whether you like to work out on your own, in a class or with a trainer you are sure to get a top notch work out here- everything is state of the art...

Pros: the sun deck

Cons: the classes are really bad

.

I was a friend of a member and I thought the place was really cool. But soon after things got ugly. They treated my friend like S#&*@! And that's not cool! This place is over charging it's members and they know it. And the service here is bad for the price. Why don't they serve bottled water or towels? That's the only way that I would give this place 5 stars!

Pros: Big Pool

I have to say that since I signed up with Sports Club, I have never worked out so hard, the classes are interesting and the staff here is always helpful. I absolutely love the yoga classes, especially Erika, she is an inspiring teacher.

Pros: Close to home/classy place

.

This place is over priced gym and the workout classes are the same as any other gym. This place is not fancy nor does it have friendly staff. The only people who gave this place good reviews are the ones who did not pay for the monthly dues. I see alot of reviews by guest and first time gym members.
Take time to talk to the GM and see what bizarre comments come out of his mouth. If you complain about anything, he will tell you that you are not a good "Fit" for this gym. So I quit and filed a complaint and got a refund.

There are TONS of group exercise classes to choose from. When I tried the gym out for a week I went to their definitions class & basic indo-row, both I hadn't heard of before... They did not dissapoint. The instructors were nice & both had me sore the next day. I would also reccomend the Saturday morning Step class, the instructor Paul is hilarious (catches me up on the week's hollywood gossip & movie reviews) and offers variations to match any fitness level. Overall its the perfect place to bring your girlfriends for a group work out.

The only people who work out here are old and rich. And management is the same way. So if you do not fit their ideal, then you are treated like a second class customer.

The staff do not communicate with the trainers and schdules for training times get conflicted.
I was working out with a trainer for weeks when the management gave away my time slot to another member who threatened to quit. They even gave that member free sessions. Instead of apologizing for their scheduling error, they ignored me and dismissed me. They totally favored this other member.
I was treated like a second class citizen.
SO I quit!!!
For $175 a month I would hope the Sports Club la install a scheduling program that works.

Why they call themselves a 5 star health club is a wonder. The customer service is bad for the price they are charging per month. It's more of a self serve gym. And do not bother complaining to the GM-Ray..he'll just yell at you to leave the gym. Useless man! That's no way to talk to paying customers at $175 a month.
But if you are rich with money to burn and a status seeker this is the definite place for you!
All the bad reviews are true.

My husband and I decided that we needed to join an up scale gym and this was close by. We were terribly disappointed with the rude staff and membership personnel. We do not mind the high prices, but do not ever complain about anything....they just tell you not to join and leave.

This gym is supposed to be the best and most luxurious. So far that's far from it. The price per month is double most gyms and the customer service is non-existent. I am terribly dissappointed.

Pros: Large number of equipment / Some Trainers

Cons: Overpriced/ bad customer service

way too expensive (i paid 175/month for the basic membership). The amenities are few and not worth the hype or price. Here is my two cents:

- you have to pay $5 for valet or $3 for parking EVERY TIME you work out- unless you find parking on the street which can be difficult.
- the club is clean
- there is a sauna, steam room, showers, and jacuzzi in the women locker rooms, but every gym i've been to has that-- even the student gym at ucla, when i went to school there.
- large cardio and free weight workout space and equipment, i've never waited to get on a machine
- large basketball room, which i've observed to be highly popular among the men
- i've never felt welcomed or appreciated as a member when I signed up or needed to speak to the folks in membership.
- the cafe is ok, nothing special.
- in the women's locker room there are the staple spa items like: shampoo, conditioner, lotion, blow dryers, hair sprays, razors and towels. I don't use any of it because the shampoo and conditioner are awful for my hair and the lotion and the rest of the beauty items are just run of the mill cheap things.
- i haven't been to enough classes to give a valuable observation, but the ones i've been to haven't been way better than ones i've been to at other gyms. In other words, I could go to a class at LA Fitness or Ballys with very high motivation and energy and work really hard- and that could be 100X better than a class at SCLA. The class doesn't make that much of a difference.
- The crowd:
the men: the older ones have eyes that uncomfortably stare at considerably younger women. the younger men are usually on the basketball court and not many other places. the older women are classy, but most don't come to work out, they see it as an opportunity to socialize --which can sometimes be distracting. Most of them don't need to work out, they all look much younger and in shape than others their age (prob. because of the "work" done on them?). The younger women are there mostly to meet a sugaraddy or a celebrity. They are usually working out with full face of makeup and with the plastic breasts peaking out of their tops.

...Why am I still there? ... I'm not. I'm just running on San Vincente and doing cardio at home. Watching what I eat and trying to stay active is good enough for me.

i've worked out there a couple times. it's nice-does what it's supposed to do-serves as a place where you can go and work out. in fact, it is a pretty cool place to do so. but here's where it get's weird. the other reveiwers are getting a little too angry about their reviews. it's just a health club guys, calm down. it seems really simple to me...if you don't like working out there-go somewhere else. it looks like you might have anger managemnet issues. next you can search for a therapist. good luck.

We are hysterically laughing. The review directly below this one reads like a plant by Sports Club LA. As if it were copied and pasted from a brochure. Love how it insults other reviewers, too. That's always a red flag, i.e "I don't know what these complainers are talking about, etc etc." Hilarious.

Wish Citysearch had a way to red flag when businesses write in their own reviews.

Is this club so desperate for business they are reduced to trolling Citysearch, planting positive reviews for themself, and insulting other reviewers?
People are no longer willing to pay exorbitant dues if they don't get value for their dollar.

The club is not a sanctuary of luxury. It can be stressful, especially when the service is bad. We've never had anyone come around and offer a free cup of ice water (seriously, is this how the club is justifying its existence - free tap water?), but we're fine with our bottle of water. Also the trainers who gossip and ht on members.

The reviewer who commented about no celebrities being at the club was clearly not complaining about it.
He clearly stated if seeing celebrities if your thing, this club is not the place for that. He was clarifying a misconception of the club as the place to rub elbows with celebrities. Many people will join thinking they will rub elbows with celebrities. The Beverly Hills club is not full of celebrities. The Beverly Hills club is a worse value, with small facilities, a claustrophobic awkward layout, bad parking, bad service.

The Sports Club LA is the premiere fitness center in Los Angeles. The facility is simply amazing. They take great care of the place and it shows. Yes, it is a bit pricey (they just increased the dues again this year), but you get what you pay for. Staff is always attentive and courteous. The food offered at the restaurant and cafe is healthy and delicious. Most importantly, the fitness equipment is well-maintained and many units are always available. Sure, you can save some money going to a Ballys, but be prepared to wait hours for an available treadmill. There is an olympic size pool, a full basketball court with leagues available, racquetball courts, and even an open air paddle tennis court on the roof. The best part of the pool is they use some advanced filtration system instead of chlorine, so your eyes don't burn and you don't smell like pool the rest of the day. They even have attendants walking around the cardio machines offering ice water for free from their trays. They also offer numerous group exercise classes which run throughout the day. I have no idea what the below reviewers are complaining about. Ray is absolutely professional, and he took care of my concerns immediately. And are you seriously complaining because you don't spot celebrities when you work out. What are you there for? Go to the Beverly Hills location for that, not the Sepulveda one.

Cons: Costly, but if you can afford it, you need to check it out.

.

This club is all hype. First of all, this is not the celebrity mecca the club makes itself out to be.

If you are joining in hopes of spotting celebs left and right, you will be disappointed. Maybe long ago this gym was the place for the rich and famous. These days, the rich and famous go to private training gyms, or have gyms in their homes. It seems like the club gives free memberships to famous people so if the famous person shows up one time the club can say that person works out there.

This gym is totally overpriced and they know it.

Membership admitted the dues were too high and not competitive.

My husband spoke with a membership salesperson who was so rude, unprofessional, and spaced out (Jessica?), she belonged at Bally's, not a club of this supposed stature.

I'm pretty sure I was solicited to be a call girl at this club. By a "madam" or another call girl, not by a customer. It was way creepy.

There are better clubs with younger, more fun people, and better priced. Many celebrities have migrated to other clubs, too, if that's your thing.

.

The previous 2 reviewers are sooo accurate. This club is so over. This club was great 20 years ago, although back then they were the only game in town. Now there are many clubs that are nicer and less expensive. Sports Club is definitely feeling the sting of competition because it has been promoting a no initiaion fee membership for months, whereas it used to charge a criminal $1200.00

Also, this is the first year this club hasn't raised its monthly dues. They are definitely in trouble. Many members have dropped this club because the quality has deteriorated while the price has kept going up. It is not worth it.

One would think they'd improve customer service if they needed to increase membership. However, the customer service here is terrible by any standard, but especially for a club billing itself as, and justifying its high cost as, a "Five Star Club."

The previous reviewer was correct about Ray, the manager. He doesn't care one whit about member input. Members don't like him. He is equally hated by employees and seen as ineffective and non-responsive.

The previous reviewer is also correct about having your calls screened like it was the Pentagon. The receptionist is ruuude and snippy (Stephanie) When you call to inquire about membership, they demand your first and last name (you are not required to give it, so don't feel intimidated.)

The membership department is rude and flaky.

There are far better and friendlier clubs that cost much less. Also, if you don't live close by, the commute along Santa Monica Blvd. to get there is a nightmare.

The previous 2 reviewers are sooo accurate. This club is so over. This club was great 20 years ago, although back then they were the only game in town. Pros: it is relatively clean, but other clubs are just as clean or more clean

Cons: rude employees, bad service, overpriced, inconvenient, weird environment

Yes, they pour money into spiffing up the locker rooms and crowd the floor with the latest fad in new equipment, but this club is so not what it once was. Total haughty staff, from the stuck-up punks that handle the front desks, to the cleaning ladies who replenish the towels. The rates are $180 a month now (plus a huge initiation fee) but this club has only gone downhill. It's large, cold, impersonal and doesn't feel the least bit "special", for all the glitz it puts out there. This large club does offer a number of diverse workout options -- but it feels as though one gets a workout just to getting to the top floor where the treadmills, elliptical, stair-steppers, etc. are situated. And, so many of the "fabulous" members of this gym think they are above the "no cell phone" rule, and that yak loudly and endlessly away, oblivious to other members. Unless you really need to have every option from an Olympic sized pool, several racquetball courts, and a full basketball court -- there are much nicer, newer, less expensive clubs available in the area. Complaints are given all the attention of someone trained to placate a difficult child, and then promptly overlooked.

There is a big problem at SportsClub L.A. There customer service is terrible. Besides the treadmills which they keep running but if something else comes up and you take the initiative to say something forget it being taken care of. First you tell the people at the club that walk around looking like they could handle the problem and get it done. But then you sorely disappointed. Then you find out who the bigger person of authority is to handle the problem and then the general manager of this operation treats you like a second class customer. Ray is the type of person that should not be in his position when he ignores the clients that belong to the gym and that are paying his paycheck and are keeping Sports Club L.A. running. Your phone calls get screened like you would'nt believe. Your a member and your getting screened or you can't get to the general manager. Good luck to them but they aren't getting my pretty penny anymore. When customer service gets like this I will take my business some place else. Especially with their monthly dues. It will eventually come back to bite them and to Ray the big G.M. I hope somebody is watching his performance.

Club is great, the equipment is good, the crowd is friendly. The personal trainers are very qualified and the locker rooms are clean. I have been to many luxury gyms but this one is a good one. I enjoy going there everyday except after 7pm thats when everything pretty much dies down. I would give this club overall a 5 but there are a few things that I am not happy about: they need more classes for men and the fact that when i go there it feels like its an ASIAN REDLIGHT DISTRICT, what a shame for such a nice club.

Report it if an Asian girl (prostitutee) offers you sex/ual services while you are working out, not an unusual thing. I am a married men and even if I wasnt the last thing I would like to see is a gym full of Asian , low life, undercover adult workers.

Pros: Equipment, size, executive locker rooms, valet

Cons: Asian adulteresses, brings the club value down by a lot

I joined two years ago. The staff calls you by name every time you walk in the door, the store has the entire Stella McCartney workout-wear collection, and the cafe has the best paninis. All that before you make it to the fitness floor!! Oh- and I worked out next to Jessica Alba last week...

Pros: Best Service

Cons: none-well worth the $$

I've been a member of SCLA for quite a while, and I've got to admit that it's the cleanest, best kept club in this City; but it is really expensive, and personally, I'm no fan of their classes. I find them to be repetetive and boring. The classes that I find interesting are always cancelled by the time I get to the club even if I check ahead of time.

Okay, they have the best weights and cardio equipment around, period; and the shower facilities can't be beat. If you want new and interesting classes, though, with the exception of yoga, which I don't really do much of, you're going to have to find it somewhere else.

PROS: cleanliness, equipment, locker room
CONS: cost, interesting classes

This is by far the nicest gym I have ever been to in California. I was a member for years and recently switched to Equinox because it is closer to my house, but I miss Sports Club.
It's better than any hotel spa I have ever visited, and I travel alot. The facilities have to be seen to be believed. Almost perfect. Some people feel it;s too big, but I love that. You always have room and a free spot. The only minus is the 1980's decor and color scheme. Where else can you see, in the flesh, Michael Bergin in a towel, John Travolta in the steam room and Sporty Spice on the treadmill? Fun and a great workout to boot!

Tom Cruise used to go to this gym.. so you can figure that they are going to be treating their customers good! well, they do!!! the whole day, I didn't even feel like the pain of exercising because you feel so comfortable in this gym. They can take your care and wash it for you as well!! They have everything from spa to really cool classes... but the price is steep!!!

One of the best gyms in the area. They offer a lot of services on top of having a state of the art gym.

This club is really as good of a gym as you are going to find. You'll like the Sports Club LA if you're wanting to be in more of a spa/resort than a gym. This place doesn't smell like a gym...and it looks like a nice hotel.
