What a meal

by Havok D.

So i came here for my friend's birthday party and i had never heard of this place. Ther aren't too many interesting places in fremont, especailly like this place. The atmosphere really had a great affect. The bold colors complimented the bold flavors of the food. So we had a family style meal and we ordered this lamb kabob which was seared to perfection. It was so tender. There was also this interesting rice dish which had a lamb shank inside topped with raisins and carrots. Definetly an eye catcher.
For dessert we had rosewater icecream on a bed of rice noodles. Not your ordinary ice cream.
I would recommend this place to everone,
P.S. Try the floor seating...it's comfortable

Fantastic Food.

by Lauren M.

My boss bought me a gift certificate to this place and it was amazing! I had never had Afghani food before and its awesome! They had the most tender and juicy kabobs! They have good saucy-rice dishes as well.

the decor and ambience is great as well, you have the option to sit on the floor in a middle eastern ambience.

Best Afghan Food I've had

by Anonymous

For about $20 per person you can have a little piece of food heaven. Went there with the bf - first time for him, but i knew that he had to try - lo and behold - i was right (like always).

we sat in the middle on the low tables - felt like we were in a middle eastern movie or maybe in the middle east! - cept for those other diners surrounding us at the "normal" tables... we ordered the daal soup to start and the veggie aushak - both very yummy... we also ordered the spinach chicken and the tomato-y chicken with basmati rice. the meal includes afghani naan and salad with vinaigrette.

Even with the bf who's a big foodie we had left overs and were more, exceptionally more than satisfied, we were on the brim of exploding... not a good feeling, but sometimes you can't help it...

An older man came by and asked if we had reservations which was kind of strange b/c we were still allowed to sit there.. later on he came and asked how our food was... dunno why he asked why we had reservations...?

They don't serve alcohol but you can bring in beer & wine - at least I saw others do it as we were leaving.

Maybe the service has improved b/c our food was served very fast. Our server was nice, the only drawback was the busser who reached for my bf's plate before he was done, not a big deal but kind of an ambiance killer for a nice evening.

GOOD FOOD!!!!!

by Rick H.

This place is great if you eastern food. I had never had Afghan food before, but its a blend between Thai, Indian, Persian, and Lebanese. The appetizer Bolani and Aushak were AWESOME, the best. I had the lamb chops and tried some sauce with rice as well. Will defineatly come back again.

Oh, the ambience is awesome, traditional floor seating with lots of mosaic colors and cushions and eastern ornaments.

Good Afghan Food

by R K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,979

Salang Pass Restaurant is one of the good Afghan restaurants in Fremont. Located in down town on Fremont Blvd., close to Old Naaz Movie theater. The ambience is pleasant. Here you can have option to sit on floor and enjoy the food or regular dining table / chair option.

Some of the dishes that may give enjoyment are : 1)Borani badenjan (as starter) 2)bolani 3)Biryani.

Should try once!
