My girlfriend and I (including as many people as we can tell our story to) will NEVER be using U-Haul again. You have lost a longtime customer. Seriously, screw you U-hual. We had reserved a U-Box for our trip out to IN and then to VA. This would have cost us at most $1500 for everything and we would not have had the stress of transporting and storing our items ourself, and we planned a quick trip across America in our little Civic. Everything was looking good... in budget... drive a smal car... our stuff is safe and secure BUT when we got to the Uhaul location we found out that we not only didn't have a box but the call we received the day before confirming our box was actually a lie and there wasn't really a U-Box! Luckily for you the GM of this SF location kind of saved your ass and worked with us to at least get a decent rate on the truck and a car dolly. We literally had 48 hours left in our apartments so we didn't have time to look around for another option. While we were able to leave SF, THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! We were on a strict budget. We were completely SCREWED over by your lack of communication with customers. We were forced to drive a truck over 2400 miles, spend $700 on gas, and it took way longer than driving a normal car. Also, when we got to Bloomington - our drop off location - we found out that we did not have a storage unit but that we would then have to drive another 60 minutes to Indianapolis to unload our truck to drive all the way back to Bloomington to drop off the truck. We thought we decided that we should just deal with the Indianapolis storage space and then drop-off the truck at an Indianapolis location just to get this nightmare over with... but after talking with a U-haul rep we found out that it would cost us an extra $1009 for a relocation fee. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!?? SCREW YOU UHUAL! You screw up and it has now cost us over $1000 more than we planned on and then you try to trick us out of another $1000. I DONT THINK SO! You will be hearing from me to the Corporate office by letter, email, and phone call. I will be spreading my story over social media and blogs to let people know that this is the absolute worse service I have ever experienced! All we needed to do was make it back home to sick family members and you have added an unbelievable amount of stress both emotionally and financially. FIX THIS! I don't care how but there will be some remedy to this.

I had a good experience renting a ten-foot U-Haul truck from them for a short-haul trip within San Francisco. This is a huge facility, conveniently located near many self-storage company facilities. I reserved the truck three days in advance by phone. When I arrived in their office they processed my order smoothly, even emailing me a digital copy of my invoice. I waited a few minutes in their designated area until a worker drove up with my truck and turned over the keys. When I first pulled my car alongside their plant (for free all-day parking on Bayshore Blvd.), I got accosted by a friendly group of day laborers. When I politely told them I didn't need any helping hands, they laid off. This U-Haul charges $1.49 per mile on top of the basic truck rental (of $19.95). So this facility might make a good choice if you're in for a short haul within, or not far from San Francisco. If you have to make a longer haul, you might want to shop around for a U-Haul offering a lower per-mile rate.

Pros: Good location, free parking, efficient order-processing

Cons: High per-mile rate, pesky day-laborers

Takes forever to get a truck and to return it. When you check out your truck be sure to write every ding or scratch on it - they tried to screw me by saying that I had damaged their truck - one with 180,000 miles on it that looked like it had seen service in WWII. Don't let them screw you!

Pros: Lots of Trucks
