Let's face it, times these days are hard. Going to a restaurant isn't as affordable as before as prices are going up and our wages are not going up in proportion. Many restaurants these days give you less portion and on top of that charge you tips on top of your meal.

But the Old teahouse in Davis is a great solution to this problem. They serve delicious and authentic Chinese food. I can get a delightful noodle dish for less than $5.99 and there's no tip needed. The portion size is amazingly big. I'm a big eater and I couldn't finish up the whole noodle dish, i had to wrap it up for my midnight snack. Imagine, having so much food that can feed you for two meals. What a great deal!

To top it off, they have those delicious tapioca tea drinks. I especially like the ice crush so much since it's like a lighter version of a slushy and you get to have those nice jelly or tapioca add ons for free, while other places around charge you extra for the tapioca and jelly.

Old Teahouse has great value, very good quality, authentic taste and great place to bring your friends or family for a cheap quality meal.

Check it out!

This place is a terrific restaurant! they serve great tapioca tea drinks (where the tapioca is clear, never seen that before) and the food is great portion size and very affordable! Great value for the money.

They have crispy Chicken (popcorn Chicken) that is the best chicken I have tasted! Be sure not to call for spicy cause they put some cayenne pepper that makes it really spicy. I can't take too much spice..but for people with spicy taste buds they have extreme hot and spicy for your chicken if you'd like.

The noodle dishes are great, especially the chicken black pepper noodle dish! it's peppery but tasty at the same time!

It can get busy at times and that leads to a wait, but I think it's worth it. I'd rather go to a busy place than a non-busy place, so at least i know that their food is fresh and it's a popular place.

One of the best in Davis. Osaka Sushi is the other great finds in Davis for Japanese. But for Chinese and bubble tea, The Old Tea house is the only place to go!

I??ll go to the Old Teahouse if I??m looking for a pearl drink. They have a good selection of drink flavors. They use powders, so the flavor is consistent, but every once in a while the drink is gritty or the tapioca has a hard center. Sometimes the lines are long, but you can see that the drink makers are busy making the orders, so it??s not like the lines are long because they??re slacking.

In general, I can??t recommend the food here, because it??s not very good. Too much salt and sauce and it??s a little pricey. $9-10 for an entre and a drink, and they only take cash. The only food I ever order here is the Eggplant Pork, and I only eat here if I??m prepared for the consequences. Every time I eat their food I get a stomach ache, an MSG headache, and the resulting MSG hangover the next day because of all the salt and MSG. It??s masochistic to keep eating here, but I really love Eggplant Pork, and their eggplant is always cooked hot and fast and never mushy.

Davis has other tapioca and Chinese food places with similar pricing, but Old Teahouse??s proximity to campus without having to drive thru pedestrian-busy downtown is a plus.

I would not recommend this place at all. The place is too small and crowded, orders take forever, and the food here is gross. DO NOT get the popcorn chicken because it is so nasty. My noodle dish was alright but my friend found a piece of hair in her rice dish.

I haven't had the food, but the Bubble Tea is pretty good. They even have the professional seal for the top. It discouraged me when I dropped my first one and it shattered onto the floor. I don't see why people complain about the service, they seemed to be straight to the point with their orders. My friends complain about the smell, but they're not used to Asian restaurants.

PROS: Bubble Tea and Fast Service.
CONS: If you're not used to the smell... beware.

Very similar to any of the other tapioca places such as Tapioca Express and Q-Cup except this one has a unique ancient Chinese teahouse setting inside that makes it seem cooler. The drinks are pretty good just like any other, but what also sets the Old Teahouse apart is the fact that its food is REALLY good too. Kind of pricey but well worth every dollar.
