There has been new management at Express Wetsuit Repair for about the last year. So if you had any bad experiences in the past with this company it has changed ownership. Kim is the new owner and if you need to call her she will answer the phone or if you leave a message she will get right back to you. This business is very important to her and she will do what it takes to put that smile back on your face.

I just got my wetsuit back from Express Repair and it now fits perfectly - as if the the neoprene was painted directly on my body. I originally bought the best fitting suit at a surfshop, which was far from great. I'm tall with a lanky body and wide shoulders (6'4" 159 lbs) so it's not always easy to get a great fit off the rack.

The person who operates Express Wetsuit repair is very meticulous, does fantastic work and unprompted, said they would be sending me a refund as the suit took less time to repair than she originally quoted!

When you fill in the paperwork, definitively have a friend take your measurements and have your friend double-check those measurements! "Measure twice, cut once" applies to wetsuits as well!

Business Response:

I AM NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY REPAIR WORK OR ALTERATIONS, AS THE WETSUIT BUSINESS HAS A NEW OWNER. BEST OF LUCK TO THE NEW OWNER! --Barbara Mau

I tore one of the seams on my XTERRA wetsuit while putting it on and didn't want to replace the entire $800 item. After some searching on XTERRA's website I found Express Wetsuit Repair. The quote was quite reasonable and the turnaround was fantastic, I had it back in less than a week and the repair was perfect, you can't even tell it was torn. The company was easy to deal with and the entire transaction was covered in one email. I was thrilled to find Express Wetsuit Repair since they ended up saving me a lot of money.

I tore a glued seam on my surf wetsuit recently and called and emailed around to different repair companies asking for quotes. Express Wetsuit Repair was the most reasonably priced shop for what seemed like a fairly straight forward repair. After a few email communications I sent off the suit and got it back within a week with a partial refund for overpaid return shipping. That was a much appreciated gesture though not necessary considering the quality of the work and the extra little bit they did in reinforcing the key pocket that was not part of the repair. In addition I had a second wetsuit that was previously repaired by the manufacturer but the taped seams were falling apart. EWR could've taken my money and did a patchwork job but they admitted they weren't going to be able to fix it. Instead they suggested how to communicate with the manufacturer and I was able to get them to fix their repair even years after the initial work was done. Great advice, great work, and great service and assistance.

Just a quick note regarding Express Wetsuit Repair. As many will find when the time comes, finding a competent & honest wetsuit repair shop in South Orange County is difficult, if not impossible. I found this business on the web and requested a quote, which was responded to very quickly. Although UPS screwed up the first delivery, Express Wetsuit Repair helped track down the issue and gave me recommendations for re-shipping the wetsuit. To make a long story short, I just received the wetsuit back in perfect, repaired condition and with a check for the overpayment in shipping. I would highly recommend this business for quality work and honesty.

I have sent my wetsuits to them twice in the last 5 years and received excellent service both times and no problems at all. I have recommended them to all of my triathlon friends. To show you how honest they are, the first time I used them I accidentally sent more than I needed to and not only did I receive my wetsuit back but also a check from them, even though it was only about $5.

Express Wetsuit Repair has done a great job on all my suits. People looking to fix or alter their wetsuit at a professional level they are the one to use. The work they did for me was very meticulous because of the alteration that was required and best of all it was done on time. Other shops in the past had my suits back in 3-4 weeks and only lasted a year if I was lucky.

Not sure who this guy is, but Barbara Mau at Express Wetsuit Repair has a 15+ years reputation for integrity in her customer dealings. Some people don't like her, but you can't please everyone, and I have used her srvice more than once and no complaints. Her service is online only, there's no walk in place. I got great work, got my suit back fast and the price was reasonable.

I have used Barb's service many times over the years and had absolutely zero problems and zero attitude. If this person got a bad reception, he probably brought it on himself. And what most people don't realize is that tehre are two sides to every story. Just because its written on the internet, doesn't mean its true, it just means that's one person's version. I also have a service business, and I've learned that there is always going to be someone who isn't going to like whatever is going on and complain or get mad, no matter what you do.

Finally I got my wetsuit and money back so I can post this review! I couldn't post before because this lady literally told me I would not get my stuff back if I posted a bad review. Look I dont know if you guys have ever dealt with this person, or how it went for you, but this women is the most unprofessional and down right psycho person I have ever made the mistake of doing business with.

Short version...DO NOT USE EXPRESS WETSUIT REPAIR!!

Barbara Mau, of Express Wetsuit Repair in San Clemente, quoted me on a hole repair in my wetsuit that I had tried to glue but did not hold. Her website has instructions on how to fill out paperwork and ship to her, including return shipping. I did so on a Thursday, and the following Wednesday I had not heard anything so I wrote her an email to make sure she got it. We checked on the check I sent, and saw it had been cashed immediately the day after shipping. She responded with some serious attitude telling me she needed to double the cost because the repair would take longer due to my glue repair attempt. (Then why did she cash original check before telling me?) I responded first saying to just send my wetsuit back and refund the money, without addressing her unprofessional tone. She then in turn responded with more rude comments, which I swallowed and tried to keep my cool and told her to just send it back and I would reflect my experience in my reviews.

That REALLY tipped her off. She proceeded to stalk my name online and send me links and screen shots from my social networking sites like Myspace, Facebook, etc, and basically told me I was a coward and egotistical a**hole for threatening to give a bad review. She said..."there is no "in person" service, especially for locals who tend to be complainers and not appreciative that there even is a service like mine" and "your arrogance and disrespect underscores the FACT that "the customer is not always right" and people like you are EXACTLY why I don't accept in-person work anymore". Those are copy and paste quotes too, not my own words.

So after many crazy emails and arguing, she refused to send me back my suit or money and told me to find a lawyer, and IF i could find her(she posts no physical address anywhere, only UPS stores) then I could take her to small claims court. What kind of business person is this?!?!?! So, I did find her address, and I called the San Clemente PD and told them I was going to get my stuff if they wanted to accompany me. They said they would and to call them when I was down there. Shortly thereafter I got a call from an Officer that was sent over there, and he told me that he made it clear to her that SHE was in the wrong, and she needed to send my stuff back asap. He apparently told her that she is "her own worst enemy", and she got pissed and threw him out of her house. He told me to call him if I hadn't seen my stuff in a few days. Luckily, I received my suit and a check from her yesterday finally(5 days later) and I'm only out the cost of shipping both ways.

Guys, I wouldn't know how good her work is so I cant comment on that, but she is a complete nut, which NOW I hear is the general consensus from others who have used her. Wish I had known.

Search some of the diving and surfing forums and you will see lots of bad reviews.

Business Response:

This person is an expert at crushing a fly with a hammer. My only response is don't believe everything you read on the internet. I run my business in an ethical, fair manner, and in almost 20 years of providing this service, not one person has ever accused me of being "shady" or "unethical."

I took my suit to barbara and was given the royal treatment. An expert job at a price I couldn't believe and the work was done fast! She was also very nice to me, and went out of her way to accommodate my schedule. I would highly recommend her service to others
