Franklin Animal Hospital

I have been going to see Dr. Menke for over 10 years. While he may not be a very personable guy he is very good at what he does. My son has autism and can seem rude so I don't judge him by his personality. I do however judge him by his ability as a vet. I have never had a bad experience with him and he has always given good care to my animals. The costs are very low too. Another vet I used when I moved to Roseville gave me an estimate of $1500 for surgery on a dog of mine. Dr Menke did it for $545. Other vets charge $85 and up for lab work that has to be sent out and the results come back in a few days. Dr. Menke takes the sample and looks at it in a microscope in his office and the results are immediate. He does only take people on a referral basis now but if you know someone who uses him, tell the receptionist they referred you. It is well worth it. My entire family uses him and has never gotten yelled at or had a bad experience. I'm sure every vet office you go to has people that complain about them.

My husband and I needed to bring our dog in to be treated for an ear infection, the first impression we got from the front desk was horrible. As soon as we walked in for our appt. they didn't even acknowledge us, as they continued to have personal conversations with each other until i said something to them after standing their for a few minutes. We were seen by Dr.Menke who was REALLY RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL he wasn't friendly with our dog at all. He asked me to hold her while he looked at her, then yelled at me because he said I wasn't holding her right. Then when I would ask him questions he was really rude and not knowledgeable about anything I asked him. And told me to let him do his job. He definitely wasn't dog or people friendly...

Dr Menke is the best and no one can deny that! My friend who has a dog rescue recommended him and it was the best advice I could have asked for. Dr Menke is caring and all my dogs luv him. I woud highly recommend him too but it appears he is not taking any more clients............. sorry!

Spoke with one of the receptionists regarding my dilema over the phone. She asked if I was a "client", I said no then she hung up on me. Business must be good? Won't be taking my pets to Franklin in the future.

Forget them! I am a thirteen year old who just wanted to be a volunteer but all i got was cut off during the conversations! ...................................... I just don't recommend this the kindest place!

Forget this place. They are not accepting new clients so don't bother.. It's unfortunate due to the many great reviews this vet has, but at the same time very upsetting to call and have the receptionist giggle while answering the phone and tell you this.

I have been taking my animals to Franklin Animal Hospital for about 4 years. I went there seeking a second opinion for one of my cats that was diagnosed with a fatal feline disease, It was very contagious and her other vet said "she is going to die, you might as well put her to sleep along with all your other cats to save them any future pain". It turned out that the Dr that diagnosed her did not know ANYTHING about this disease and she did not even have the deadly virus. I went to see Dr Menke with all my paperwork. As far as I am concerned he was extremely knowledgeable not just about this disease but all other aspects of care for my pets. Costs are kept low, because this man has a deep passion for animals and humans alike. He truly cares and wants to keep vet care affordable so people can take good care of their animal without having to take out a second mortgage on their house. As far as the people who had the bad experiences, specifically the boy who put his pet to sleep, are you sure you are talking about the same hospital? The exam room is small with 2 doors. The door from the waiting room is locked and the other door is on the reception side and can only be accessed by staff. The only people in the room are the doctor, the family and a technician. There is no "walking though the room"! The family is given grief time and I have even seen the doctor walk out in order to leave the family some final time with their beloved pet. I have had to put 2 animals to sleep there but seen others. The staff is extremely caring and they all feel the loss of the animals because this small hospital is like a family and they treat your animals like they do their own.
One more thing, for those of you that say you will never go back, stop hiding behind your anonymity and let them know. There is a waiting list to get in and if you are truly unhappy, there are lots of people out there who would love to take your place.

Dr. Menke isn't much for talking, but he truly cares about my pets and that is what matters. He has been caring for all 3 of my dogs for about 7 years now. He was very helpful when we had to put one of our dogs to sleep and was caring and compassionate during the process. He has allowed me to be able to have life saving surguries on 2 of my dogs that I would have never been able to afford. My oldest dog now has cancerous tumors. Dr. Menke was very caring in how he delivered this news and in speaking about the treatment she could need. I would recommend Dr. Menke to others.

The staff in the office is also very nice. The office may be dated, but who cares, my dog doesn't. I appreciate that prescriptions don't cost a ton. I don't need type written prescriptions for my pet!1

Dr Meneke is by far the best vet in Sac. After having many bad experiences at locations throughout Sac, I found him 7 years ago and have never left. He has been there through the death of two of my beautiful dogs and was caring and compasionate the entire time. I have refered several friends and family and no one has ever had a bad experience. Great place. Great value. He never tries to gouge you on prices. Truely cares.

i was referred to dr. menke by a family friend who works for a large and well known rescue in the sacramento area. i have had nothing but excellent care and compassion for my animals. i've been going to dr. menke for 8 years and don't even live in the area. he and his staff are honest and keep the prices reasonable. the location is kind of yuck but i've been to beautiful offices and paid literally double the price (not to mention the fact that they tried to shove services that my animals didn't need down my throat) and never came close to the care, understanding and wonderful service that he and his staff provide.

I have had more than one unpleasant experience with Dr. Menke. I was told he was the best and the cheapest, and his staff are truly wonderful. So I went in a couple of times. The staff were awesome. But he did not live up to what I had been told. On one visit, he wouldn't even make eye contact with me and barely spoke when explaining something. I felt that I was wasting his time and I felt disrespected. But I thought, well, I'm getting what I paid for, and thought I'd give him another chance.Another time, I came in to have a procedure done that, at any other vet, my cat would have been taken in the back to do (anal gland extraction) while I waited up front. But Dr. Menke seemed annoyed that I wanted to have it done, told me to hold my cat while he did it right there in front of me, and then yelled at me when I didn't do it right. I was so offended at his insensitivity to both me and my cat that I vowed to never go back. My friend that accompanied me was incredibly offended. She couldn't believe a vet would behave that way. I don't care how cheap he is, I got really cheap treatment. Twice. So, yes, I completely believe that a customer was yelled at. I would shop around if I were you. I'm willing to pay more if it means my animals and I will be respected.

In response to the person who felt Dr. Menke was abrupt,etc. when they had to put their old dog to sleep: I have brought my pets to Dr. Menke for many years. Unfortunately, two of those visits were to end the suffering of our 16 yr. old cat in 2002, and our 13 yr. old dog(who had a stroke the night before) in 2005. Dr. Menke was so kind, compassionate, and caring. He knew how we were suffering as well, and his actions helped us so much that we vowed never to take our pets anywhere else. I find that he and his staff are truly concerned about our pets, whereas other vets I have been to were too rushed and profit minded. I find his rates to be VERY affordable, but more importantly- they try to keep the costs low instead of ordering a bunch of tests, etc.

I've been going to Dr. Menke for 7years, I moved away and I still drive all the way back just to see him. I'm amazed that someone said he was yelling at a client, this must be an exaggeration, Dr. Menke is a very soft spoken and quite man. I go to him because I know he is good and he is affordable. I don't think they are taking new clients at this time, but if you can get in, DO IT! He is the best vet with the most reasonable fees in Sacramento. His staff is wonderful and I'm always treated exceptionally well, and my pets are well cared for for a fair price. I'll never go to another vet.

Dr. Menke is the best! My Retriever is terrified of tile flooring, but she has no problem in this office (once she crosses the threshold) I have had only great experiences from the Drs & and Staff. In reference to the Doctor yelling at someone. I know that he does not tolerate neglectful pet owners, and he will voice his concerns, as he should. Any confrontations that someone may overhear cannot be drawn to a conclusion that the Doctor/Doctors are rude, and or violent, unless you were in the exam room and apart of whatever the issue was. Some people tend to be a little over sensitive to criticism even if it is for the health of their loved ones (in this case...a pet) With that said. I love this office, and will continue to take my Guys & Gals and refer anyone who needs a "Caring" Vet.

I have been a customer of Dr. Menke at Franklin Animal Hospital for over 20 years.I have always found him to be truthful, caring, and compassionate.He has always let me play a part in the decision making processes with my pets with understanding and patience..My 16 year old Golden retriver mix was "on borrowed time" thanks to him.
I would reccomend Franklin Animal hospital, and I have on several occasions.

The first bad experience was when we went into the office for a regular visit. Dr. Menke was LITERALLY screaming at a customer. I don't know what the issue was, but I was uncomfortable, the other customers looked equally uncomfortable, the employees looked ashamed of being their, and the poor woman getting screamed out was in tears. If he had talked to me, I'd have walked out. I almost did as it was.

Next visit, we had to put our old dog to sleep. My son (8 at the time) and decided to be with her during the procedure so she wouldn't be as scared. It was by far the most difficult thing we have ever done. They did the procedure in a room that had a lot of people walking through, Dr. Menke was abrasive and abrupt.

After that, I vowed to never go their. We found the South Sacramento Pet Hospital which while it has issues good and bad - treas folks like family, and takes good care of our 'babies'.

I think this is one of the best animal hospitals around. I bring my animals from Oakley to get treated. Dr. Menke is extremely caring and a wonderful vet. I have come here for over 13 years and can't say enough about Dr. Menke and his staff!!!
