When the line for the ramen place is too long, duck in here and you'll be happy you did. They have a big menu, and everything I've tried has been good, but I'm really a fan of their chicken Katsu curry. I love that dish, and they make it

It's a cute, little place in Little Tokyo near the Japanese American Museum. Nothing fancy, but good classic Japanese food.

I like taking the kids here since it is low key and no one gives you dirty looks for the occasional kid outburst.

Main drawback is that you'll have to find street parking or pay for parking nearby.

Suehiro is a small hole in the wall in the heart of Little Tokyo. But the food overtakes the looks. I always order noodles, and I have never heard a complaint about the restaurant. My family and I come here all the time.

Suehiro is essentially a diner with vinyl booths, be-aproned waitresses and simple, Japanese comfort food. It draws a loyal group--Little Tokyo locals, museum/Gallery Row patrons, artists from the loft districts nearby, and even the post

Suehiro is Little Tokyo's response to the typical diners that are patterned after Denny's, Mel's or the always overrated JFD. It's a cozy diner/cafe that delivers the nice comfort Japanese food at very reasonable prices. My normal order

Pros: Good Prices, Good Food, Open Late

Cons: May be tough to find parking, the occasional homeless guy asking for change

My husband and I have been going to Suehiro since we were undergrads. Late hours, affordable, no-frills comfort food, friendly atmosphere--what's not to love? Sometimes there can be a wait late in the evenings but a table (or a spot at the counter) usually can be had with just a little patience. With all their yummy offerings, I particularly like the udon and my husband like the rice bowls topped with anything.

PROS: Late hours, good comfort food, friendly atmosphere
CONS:

Suehiro may not look like much when you walk in the door, but it has become the ruler by which I measure all other japanese restaurants. I have to admit, I always go there for the same thing - Nabeyaki Udon, but it is the best I have ever had. The wait staff is friendly and efficient, and I have never had less than an excellent meal.

PROS: Great all around Japanese restaurant
CONS: no frills atmosphere - but who cares when the food is so good

There's nothing better than pulling up on a Saturday afternoon and having a big bowl of steaming nabeyaki udon, topped with egg, spinach, and a fat tempura shrimp. Casual, unassuming, and economical. Good for kids and your Asian
