Absolutely terrible!

I began bringing my dog here 3 years ago and Dr. Habib was wonderful! However, she has since sold the company and service has declined steadily.

The straw that broke the camel's back? I called in early Dec to refill my pet's prescription. FIVE days later they left me a voicemail to tell me they couldn't fill it without a visit. Well, I was headed out of town by then, so I called them they day I returned and had my fiance bring the dog in for a new heartworm test, etc. After the entire appointment, they realize they do not have the medication in stock and promise my fiance it would be in by Friday and that they would call (it was a Tuesday). Come Monday, still no call. I call and speak to the office manager who tells me then medication cannot be prescribed until we bring the dog in for a heartworm test. Hello, McFly! I explain to her this was done a week ago and she then tells me the medication is backordered and they have no idea when it will arrive. I tell her that this is not acceptable and that she needs to come up with some sort of alternative. She gets flustered and tells me she is going to call me back when I ""calm down"" (never once raised my voice or cursed- I'm just an educated individual who chooses my words very carefully) and hangs up! I worked in customer service for a decade to get through school and NEVER ONCE hung up on a customer, no matter how much they cursed at me, etc.

She calls me back later to recommend a similar medication that they can have in stock within 3 days. Um, why wasn't that done last week when they realized the other medication was backordered? Further, why wasn't I called on Friday to be made aware of the problem? Of course, they had no answers to these questions. By the time this medication comes in, it will be a month since I first attempted to refill it.

When I pick up this new prescription, I will also be picking up my dog's file. From now on, I will be driving out to Northridge to see Dr. Habib!

Dr. Habib doesn't care about the animals she fired my friend who was the head nurse there because she asked her daughter to play with the healthy animals instead like the boarding ones instead of the animals scheduled for surgery or the sick animals that are hospitalized. Her daughter didn't like that and told her mother because she was upset. My friend said that because the iv line came out and this 3lb chihuahua had problems before with getting it's iv line put in and my friend did it first shot no problem but her daughter wanted to take the little dog out that was scheduled for surgery and play with her and the iv line came out. Dr. Habib didn't care that the animal had to be shaved in all sorts of places because the other people couldn't get the iv in and had to pin cushion the poor dog like 8 times until they got it so sad that she rather have her daughter do whatever she wants than care about the pain and suffering of the animals having to be UNNECESSARILY poked and bruised! She fired my friend because she was looking out for the animals well being and Dr. Habib didn't like that she told her daughter that...how UNPROFESSIONAL and UNCARING VET to fire someone trying to do their job in the patient's best interest! My friend also told me a horror story that an animal almost died in her care because Dr. Habib failed to use a medication that decrease saliva and mucous secretions. The cat couldn't breath because the tube was clogged with saliva and mucous causing the to turn blue, luckily my friend was on top of it highly trained in ER procedure and took the necessary steps to recover the pet from its asphyxiated state alerting another doctor. The pet would have died for being there for a simple tooth removal if it wasn't for the expertise of my friend who is a licensed technician! Don't go there you pet will suffer unnecessarily with untrained, unlicensed staff and a doctor who rather have her child play with your animal who is sick with vomiting taking them out and tossing them around rather than be a professional hospital not allowing sick animals and surgical patients to be messed with so WRONG! I told my friend she is better off getting out of there as she treats all her staff with such disrespect and curses at them! Stay away take your pet to a vet where the ANIMALS COME FIRST not their kid to do and handle the animals as they wish!

THEY ARE THE WORST HOSPITAL ever they staff is untrained none of them are licensed technician's in the state of CALIFORNIA! Dr. Habib is the worst she has her own child running around the hospital taking sick animals out and playing with them. I have heard inside stories about the hospital from old hospital staff..she is rude and curses at the staff...non of the technician have a RVT license in the state of California so they are not trained technician licensed in the state of California. All the other techs are on the job TRAINING beware they will poke your animal 10 times before they get the blood or urine sample. Dr. Habib is rude to her staff and can't get experienced staff due to her firing them or people leaving because she is so mean to everyone. She is always late to appointments don't take your pet there unless you want them to be a guinea pig or PIN CUSHION!!! Her daughter will be there taking you sick animal out and playing with him because SHE FEELS like it and none of the staff say anything they are afraid if you dog is scheduled for surgery good luck if you see it poked 10 times with its leg all bruised because they can't get it in the vein or because her daughter was the cause of it coming out! My friend used to work there and said animals have died there many of them due to untrained staff and Habib's negligence I would run from them. My friend left and had nothing nice to say about that place but it's a 3 ring circus without trained or LICENSED staff working on your pets... owner's BEWARE run to another pet hospital. She accused old employees of stealing meanwhile she is the one with the money problems the hospital itself went broke and she had to sell it...karma comes back around...maybe she should have cared more about the animals and be nicer to her staff for the real truth to come out about such a low quality patient care place! The other vet left since they knew how bad the patient care had been and the fake vet techs off the street working in the back without graduating any animal classes or vet program...so sad to have these people off the street poking your pet. Stay away..go to a hospital that has REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN AND is licensed in the state of California to work on your pet look for hospitals with educated and trained staff stay away from this chop shop. All her old staff will tell you how bad this place is not worth your time, money , or pet's PAIN. go ahead ask them how many licensed techs they claim to call them techs they have in the state of California ? ZERO BIG FAT 0 I give them a 0 star...you animal will be better off with better patient care brentwood pet clinic is one hospital that has better techs that are LICENSED!!

I have no idea if any of these negative things are true about Best Friends, but I do know that they have been bought and are undergoing alot of positive changes! The hospital is looking better and the staff is getting educated (there is plenty of new staff)! I would try it for yourself! And for all of her many loyal clients, Dr. Habib is still here!!!

I've been going to BFAH for about 6-8 months. I have been very disappointed with the front staff. They are rude, unprofessional and make me feel like they don't know what they're doing. They seem so frazzled and irritated. The doctors are okay. Didn't care for Habib, she mentioned about how broke she was, and didn't really seem like she cared about my pets. The thing that I can't stand is how long I have to wait for an appointment. I always have to wait between 30-60 minutes. I am NOT going back. today i sat for 40 minutes until my lunch break was over and still no concern from the front staff that I left without the service I came in for. THEY SUCK!!!

Dr. Habib is the worst vet ever! As stated in other reviews, Dr. Habib was consistently late for all our appointments. We heard her on several occasions yelling at her staff. I had heard from a previous receptionist that they were not getting paid and that the Dr. has a lawsuit against her from a previous employee for pain and suffering!!! Her staff all leave and after seeing a few of them at other clinics they all say the same thing "She is awful" She screams at them, she is always on her cell phone and she doesn't care about her patients. She has even made them write false positive reviews on these site and if they didnt she would get mad at them. She is a wacko!

I have been to many animal hospitals, Ive even worked at one, BUT this one takes the cake as far as POOR quality of medicine, Insane staff, and very RUDE unprofessional Veterinarian (Dr Sindy Habib).

The place is very dirty/dusty for a HOSPITAL.
Dr. Habib late to all appointments.
Dr Habib on cell phone constantly.
Dr. Habib screaming/cussing at staff.
Unprofessional/uneducated/low experienced technicians/staff.

If you love your pets & think of them as family as I do,
DO NOT frequent this establishment!

We were considering leaving this practice until about 4 years ago, when I met Allison Massenzio. She really seemed to care how my older dog was doing. Dr. Massenzio even sat on the floor to avoid stressing him out. I was shocked that I didn't have to call and ask for test results! Dr M called me with them and spent extra time answering my questions. My dog is at least 11 years old (he's from a shelter), but he's doing well thanks to her.

My dog and I recently went to visit Best Friends and were very happy with the service we received there. The staff was very friendly. The place was very clean and didn't smell at all. Although we had to wait a while for Dr. Habib to see us, she took a lot of time ensuring that all of our questions were answered and asked quite a few of her own. The friendly vet tech did a speedy job (fecal sample, heartworm test, and removing stitches). Although no trip to the vet is cheap, we walked out feeling satisfied and healthy with our wallets still half full.

THE DOCTORS :
I think it's the doctors that make a hospital - & this place has great ones in spades .

DR. ALLISON MASSENZIO is the one I met with .. She's direct, loving toward the animals, frank, and absolutely excellent at what she does - for cats AND dogs. She did the vaccinations right in front of me - without a blink of an eye or a peep of dissent from either of my Persian Himalayans. A shot and no yelp ???!! The same thing with her temperature taking ..

I cannot say enough for the expertise and ease of this doctor .

THE HELP :
The people at the desk have always been extremely courteous to me - and so caring or worried for my pets..

They keep a tight eye on their help, and that was comforting. You have an issue - tell them! They'll respond.

AS FOR TEETH CLEANING :
after my older Persian Himalayan's teeth were cleaned by DR. DALI , WITHOUT anestesia (it's called "Houndstooth cleaning" ) my cat was happy as a clam .. Dr. Dali is a find .

THE LOCATION ITSELF :
I do personally find the location to be slightly dark, like a rabbit hole, and the parking is the usual tightness which is found at all Vets here in L.A. But , there is NO nasty smell that I've come to associate with Vet offices and no pee smell in the parking lot that's sadly become a common presence with most other places. It's VERY clean here.

AS TO COST :
It's extremely reasonable.

THE WAIT :
Yes, the wait does happen. But the wait at this location is because these doctors take their time with the pets that are before them. They don't rush you through so as to meet a time table.

I've waited just as long in other vet (and human) hospitals. Just because some one whisks you in and out - doesn't mean they've fixed your problem . This place makes sure the problem is being dealt with before they let you go.

THE FINAL PROOF FOR ME:
I grew-up with dogs, so these two cats of mine are my first - they are now 8 years and 10 years old. It eases me to see them so RELAXED when they come home after a Vet visit from Best Friends (something that has never happened before) . I think that says a lot .

As a matter of fact they saved his life! I would be lost without Dr. Habib and her caring team. They seem so insync with each other that it feels like home to my dog. My dog has had many complications through out the yrs and Best Friends has always been on top of his issues. I would hope that people reading these reviews take all of them into account before making any decisions on their pet care.

This is the last place on earth I would take your pet to!
The quality of medicine is awful, especially for the price.
Doctor Habib has screamed and cussed so loud at her employees that the entire hospital, including all of the clients in the reception area, have heard! The most unprofessional veterinarian on earth! Doctor Habib's only concern is her cell phone, which she is constantly on, ignoring the waiting rooms/clients.
It seems everytime I would go in, more and more of the staff had quit. Not a good sign.
Its really a shame. Great location and hours, but I refuse to have my beloved pets treated here ever again!

Update: Heard this hospital is closing down! Employees not getting paid, nobody willing to work for Dr Habib, lack of clients, no money!
VERY TELLING!

I have been going there for about 8 years now and I've noticed a decline in the overall service there. My experience with the doctors have been good, but the front office is not very helpful or organized.
Recently (7/16/08), I had one of my cats in to find out why her breathing was so labored. After the exam/consult, I was told there would be an X-Ray, blood drawn and lab work - not a very detailed rundown of services until I got the bill. There was no estimate given of the procedures being done before I left the office (I had to leave my cat there because they couldn't attend to her until much later), no follow up call on her condition, and a rather annoyed demeanor from the office manager when I asked for explanations of the services and their costs. After all this, and a bill exceeding $800, I still need to go to someone else to get an ultra-sound (recommended by the doctor) and to find the cause of the initial problem.
Also, in the last 2 times I came in, there was a customer yelling at one of the staff members about problems with the service they received. It seems quality level is eroding and I'm feeling that I need to find a new vet.

PROS - Open late (usually till 8pm) and open weekends.
CONS - Not a full range of services/equipment.

I treat my dog as if he was my child. He gets his yearly check up at the vet. When I moved in May, my friend recommended Best Friends. I am SO thankful! The hospital staff was welcoming and the doctor treated my dog like her own. He has arthritis and the doctor said that there are other ways to help him besides medication. Now he gets acupressure and massage! I can already see a difference. I highly recommend Best Friends!

PROS: Acupressure & Knowledgable doctors

I took my dog to 2 different hospitals and these were the only guys to finally (!) figure out what was wrong with my dog. They only did necessary tests and the prices were reasonable - compared to the last place I went! I am very happy with this veterinary hospital and so is my dog!

Pros: super doctor and clean hospital

Cons: Parking is sometimes tight

My dog slipped his leash and was hit by a car! I rushed him to Best Friends and the doctor treated him immediately - on a Sunday. He had to stay in the hospital for a few days but is all better now! My old vet would have just put him down.
I am so greatful for the care my dog received!

PROS: Took pet as emergency on Sunday

We just had 5 major surgeries for our 3 dogs. Dental work, hernia surgery and neuter. All came out with flying colors. The staff was very helpful and caring. Although their prices are MORE than reasonable (I researched) they also helped me to arrange financing through a special financing company with no interest option. I highly reccomend this wonderful pet hospital!!!

PROS: Helpful, kind, animal sensitive and clean!!! Well priced too!

We have taken two dogs to this Vet for several years, and could not be happier with the service and care we have received. The staff has been universally qualified, professional and caring. I credit them with saving the life of one of my dogs who required a lengthy hospitalization, and is now fully recovered. I completely disgagree with the reviewer who didn't like the physical space -- it has always seemed to me to be clean and well kept. Pricing is competitive, and I have never felt over-charged, rather they have often made an effort to keep our costs down. Their referrals (when necessary) to other doctors have always turned out to be similarly great offices.

I am so pleased with the care my dog has received since Dr. Sindy took over! The new waiting room is beautiful - now that construction is finished. The staff are always helpful. My pet loves to go there ! After his neuter, we couldn't even see a scar!

I've taken both of my dogs to Best Friend's for years. The vets are excellent (they don't come up with faulty diagnoses to pad a bill) and the majority of the staff are knowledgeable and caring. I'm very grateful for the wonderful care they've given my dogs over the years. They also refer to excellent specialists when necessary.

PROS: reduced prices for multiple dogs, clean exam rooms
CONS:
