Do you need some truly amazingly wierd gifts? Well this is probably the right place. I was shopping on Melrose one day with some friends and just happened to walk in here just to check it out. You can find all sorts of things like bones, skeletons, funky jewelry, fur, unusual dolls, medical equipment, bottles, skull heads or even t-shirts that have very unique sayings and images on them. This sure is the place for the unique the unusual and the wierd.

For all its grandeur, the entire facade of Necromance has been stolen from others. Everything from the music they play in the store, to the goods they sell was originated elsewhere and bastardised by the sad woman who operates this place. It really is too bad. A true vampire, but with no beauty or elegance. Just a boring goof from the South with no shame.

Do some research and give credit where it is due:

If you are interested in quantity, not quality this is the place for you! For the average person who is unfamilliar with taxidermy, curios, etc. Necromance must be a paradise. This store is covered ceiling to floor in cheap finds...every thing from antlers to charts, from sea fans to bats. On the other hand for the discerning collector its a bit of a disaster. There is nothing in here that is grade A quality. Items are cluttered, poorly cared for and often damaged. The latter is what accounts for the cheap price tags! On another note, while the employees are young, individualistic, helpful and attentive, the woman who we believe to be the owner is very tiered, rude and impatient...until you pull your wallet out. In short, we like to think of it as the "Big Lots" of natural history stores.

I went inside and thought hey nice little shop with some cool stuff. Then I got to the N azi paraphernalia. They had some knives with the swastikas on them and other N azi related products.. Really broke my intrest. I'm not joking about this. On Melrose still they still have N azis. Also it smelled very bad in there. I would not recommend ever going there and hopefully the place will go out of business. This place needs to go down especially being in a area that tourist frequent. It shows a really poor side of L.A. if N azis are allowed to sell there merchandise in the open. I think I'm going to go back there and just ask them why they think they can sell that stuff. It really disguts me and find it really poor that this place is running because they shoud know what there doing is a atrocity.

One of the most unqiue stores out there. Necromance will have something for everyone. Although most people will pass on the collection of bones, taxidermy, and authentic accident photographs, the store does have one of the best selections of t-shirts, jewelry, and antique postcards. Make sure you turn your cellhpone off before entering. And keep an eye out for the store's whippet!

Smack dab in the middle of 'touristy' Melrose Avenue stis this quirky & creepy boutique. As the name suggests, its decor is of the goth and underworldly kind. They sell a myriad of "preserved" creatures and critters. Glass encased insects and mounted creepy crawlies. The staff is very friendly and quite used to the daily routine of gawkers. And can you blame them when the norm there consists of bats floating in jars and antiquated medical tools? Some really dark humored gifts for the Christmas holiday can be found there (i.e.- "angel mice" and freeze dried critters adorned with tiny angel wings!) Nothing says Christmas like dead things with wings! The also have a variety of skulls and bones, from human to all manner of animals. (Be assured all are legally obtained and the human are for research purposes only.) The also carry prosthetic eyes in several shades (great for fx artists like myself.) And let's not forget the jewelry case with some interesting items like bracelets made from real scorpions!! One note, the people that work there (including the owner) almost always have their dogs there. While I have no problem with dogs (and they are all friendly) it's something to take into consideration for those who neither like dogs or have a problem with them (are afraid, etc..)

From the time you walk in until you leave there is something beautful and serene. The music is nice. And from knowing Melrose well they pretty much have the best window display. A variety of merchandise from hair pins, to well the name says it all. The staff has always been friendly. But diffently a collectors shop. you can find something from $5. I love this place. The owner is very friendly and has a very positive aura. Be sure to support this place, Melrose is dying.

As long as the owner is not the person who you have to deal with. The other girl that works there is very nice, but the owner is not personable. She kicked my brother out of the store because he was just browsing and not planning on buying. She told him, "I don't have time to babysit." She keeps the door locked and acts completely irritated if you happen to knock on the door to come into the store and look around.
The store is amazing though. You can find anything from chinese foot binding shoes to nazi era stamps and tie pins. Make sure to take a look at the books and at the photographs of the deceased.
P.S. The people that work there almost always have their dogs with them. They are friendly dogs, but if you don't like dogs, this is not your store.

Saying Necromance is "spooky" or "ghoulish" doesn't do it justice...it's a quiet slip of a shop that specializes in ephemera along the lines of jewels, rare books...and yes, taxidermy and bones. But don't let that scare you away -- Necromance is much more about celebrating the dark, delicate and lovely than freaking you out with it. Just look into the sweet eyes of a stuffed duckling and you'll know what I mean. A favorite place to shop hands-down, and the owner (and her amazing dog) are equally great.
