This is some of the best Indian cuisine I've ever had. My favorites are the chicken tikka masala, mirchi tikka masala, pashwari naan, and samosas. Curries are delicious as well. Awesome lunch specials on Fridays as I recall.

Wow!! I am a person with a service-animal and in all my years of living in SoCal I have never met a more rude and mean staff.
We came to the place at 2 PM on a Sunday-brunch and it was completely empty (0 costumers) and the host was first

I entered a very traditional Indian restaurant - but when I opted for patio seated was transported to a wonderfully exotic atmosphere on the tented patio. Soooo cool! The food is good - especially if you like spicy. Come with a BIG appetite, because they give you plenty. Busy, but never too crowded. Very attentive staff. Finding parking can be tricky.

I work directly across the street in an antique store, and ordered lunch from there one day. The guy who answered the phone said 5 minutes to pick up. I told him I couldn't leave my store, buy I was DIRECTLY across the street, so could he have someone drop it off (obviously I was willing to pay delivery charge). He said 45 minutes because he was the only one there.

I waited over an hour, and watched three different waiters staring out the door at traffic!

Sfter all that waiting, the food was disappointing, bland, and tasteless. Chicken did seem like all kinds of mystery parts...I had to pick a few questionables out of my mouth, very unappetizing.

I will starve before I ever order there again.

After hours of search I found this place and decided to meet my friend there, I thought it would be busy so I made a reservation, This place is dead slow and the food took 30 mins to come on the table, And the food wasnt up to my expectations, chicken tasted like precooked, pured spinach with tofo was "OK'. This place is so lame the music was awfully mistracked, one second they were playing some kinda Buddhist chant another minute they were playing arabic music. Hello and this skiny wait staff was jumping all over the restaurant. I never gonna go back to this place again. This is totally a drama restaurants, reviews I read about this resaturants is totally unhelpfull.

i went there the other night with my boyfriend to have a quiet dinner for our 1 year anniversary. apparently the owner, standing in the corner kept staring at us and making weired faces.
it was a man with some gray hair and in his middle age.
i am very sure that it was the owner of flavor of india.
not only that, but he had the nerve to ask us if we were gay. i have never in my life experienced such rudeness, especially in west hollywood, which is known for its gay community.
don't recommend this place at all.

I drove by many times never ate at Flavor of India, until now. I end up eating awesome food in lighted alfresco patio with my girlfriend. The food is excellent, inexpensive and of fine quality, they could make any chicken dish "all white meat only " just for $1.95 extra and if you ask for easy on oil they do it for free lol. The decor is like a paradise it starts slow however gets busy by 6 pm. The amazing thing is i can also enjoy there food staying at home since they also deliver thats cool. I'm glad I discovered this place and highly recommend it to everyone.

I don't even call this restaurant Flavor of India -- I call it DARSHAN'S -- he is the owner. head cook, and enlightened divinity. In fact, Darshan and his cooking are so inspired that every single person I have ever brought to Darshan's claim that it is the best Indian food they have ever had. Let me let you in on a secret -- it is called....MALAI KOFTA. It is a specisl dish that you will only ever find at Darshan's...I can't explain it, it's sublime, and to this date I have (in all seriousness) written 2 poems about it. Not only is the food absolutely out of this world, but the atmosphere is both cozy and temple-like, and they have free refills on masala chai tea! I ADORE THIS RESTAURANT.

Most Indian places seems to have indifferent service at best. At Flavor of India they seem to actually care that you are having a good time. Ask about some of the dishes you are having and there's a good chance the chef will come out and enthusiastically answer your questions. Food is great, the semi-outdoor setting is nice. The menu is nice, with great vegetarian dishes. dinner has been great everytime we have gone.

Ok folks, I can't figure out why this place has even one bad review, seriously! I am an Indian and believe me when I say that most Indian food in the US tastes pathetic to say the least. But Flavor of India changed my opinion in a second. I and my husband had the Baingan Bharta and the Lamb Frankie and they were both so delicious. And the customer service is exceptionally good. I wanted to have Salt Lassi( buttermilk flavored with salt, spices and lemon juice) and though they did not have it on the menu, the chef (Darshan Singh) made it for me immediately and was it good!!! Brought back memories of good Indian food in India. The food was very affordable, the tab came to $30 for both of us. The chef actually came out and said goodbye to us and the personal touch will take this restaurant a long way. All in all, an amazing experience.

Tip: Make sure you tell the waiter to find out from the chef if they can make something to order even if you can't find it on the menu, most likely, they can and will accomodate your request. Try the frankie, you won't find it anywhere else. Happy Eating:)

WHAT A JOKE!!! I've tried almost every Indian restaurant from West Hollywood to Santa Monica and this is easily the worst. Short version of my experience: 1. Tasteless food (almost impossible for Indian food but somehow these people manage to do it); 2. Awful service; 3. Seriously overpriced. I recently went with a friend and we both had chicken dishes. I had the Chicken Vindaloo - the menu said it was "Extra spicy". When it came out I couldn't even recognize it as being chicken vindaloo. The dish was way too watery and had an odd color to it. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the chicken pieces looked like the processed kind you get at the grocery's freezer. They were rectangular in shape and hard in texture - not appetizing in appearance, but hey, not all tasty foods are, right? Then I tasted it. Yup, tasted like chicken thrown in water. "Extra spicy?" I sure couldn't taste any, and neither could my friend who thought it almost tasted "sweet". So then I tried his dish - just as disappointing. To add insult to injury, our tasteless meal was accompanied by a ridiculous price tag. We paid over $42 PLUS tip for two entrees because they charged us for extra rice and naan bread that was barely enough for one person. I wouldn't have been upset about it except both of us left the restaurant still hungry, and the the food was awful. If you like Indian food, you'll find better food at pretty much any buffet than you will here. Nawab in Santa Monica is only 10 bucks and the food is AMAZING. If you're in West Hollywood or Beverly Hills, go further east on Santa Monica or Melrose and you'll do better at any of the other restaurants. Even Akbar and Star of India are better than this place.

Visiting LA from SF...we spontaneously stopped in at this charming restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd. We managed to sneak in at 7pm on a Friday night and were seated promptly on the covered patio. Everything was great, from the appetizer (try the Idli!) to the tandoori mixed grill (only the shrimp disappointed, overcooked/dry), meats were all tender and spiced just right, and the Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious.

We were waited on by one of the owners I believe who was genial and helpful in every way...especially when we found out our rental car had been towed from a neighboring street. Use their valet!

All in all, a wonderful meal in a great setting for an LA summer night. Highly recommended.

Pros: food/ covered-outdoor seating/ great service

Except for the one about the dry chicken, the bad comments were correct. My belief is that this restaurant took the opportunity to hide the less desirable parts of the chicken beneath the sauce similar to the dollar chinese mystery meals. I ended up taking pieces of my girlfriends tandoori chicken and dipping it in my tika sauce. To add, dont go there starving. The portions are very small and very expensive. Service was horrible. I had to ask them three times to bring my coke. (which came in a can) They forgot the rice we had ordered, until the check came. Instead of removing the not received order of rice from the bill, the waiter offered me a glass of wine even though we had our coats on and obviously waiting to leave.

Wonderful place for a date. The food is authentic and tasty. The ambiance is cozy. Nice place to have a long conversation over Chai Masala that is served by friendly wait and bus staff. Mostly outdoors, but covered by a rain proof tarp and heat lanterns, this warmly lit restaurant evokes feelings of being abroad, far far away from Santa Monica Boulevard.

My boyfriend and I have been going here for several years. Everything about this place is RIGHT. The food is tasty - try the chicken tikka masala and lamb curry - the ambiance is very romantic, and the service is exceptional. The owners always come and greet us and make sure we receive first rate service. If I had to recommend one Indian restaurant in all of LA for a nice evening out with a loved one, or even for meeting up with a group to celebrate a special occasion, Flavor of India would be my choice (and I've sampled many Indian restaurants).

We ordered the bhel puri as an appetizer and it was sour and spicy, but it lacked actual taste (though it would be fair to note that this was our first time trying this type of dish so maybe its supposed to be that way). The aloo gobi was spicy, but it lacked flavor and the portion was a bit small. The chicken tikka masala was good (although some pieces of chicken were a tad dry) and was a good-sized dish. In terms of service, the hostess was very nice and our waiter was attentive. The covered outdoor patio has a nice romantic feel. All in all, it was a decent meal, but it was nothing special, so I dont think well make an effort to go back.

we ordered hot and spicy chicken vindaloo and it turned out to be a very different vindaloo from what we had at many other indian restaurants. it wasn't hot or spicy as it said (it was more like a chicken stew) - absolutely hated it. also ordered rack of lamb - it was cooked well (not under cooked or over cooked) but lacked the full indian flavor. the service wasn't very impressive. many times we had to call for the service. their staff were gathering and chit-chatting instead of paying attention to their customers.

As an Indian food-loving Englishman in LA, I have sampled many Indian restaurants in the LA area. In my opinion, and those of all my close friends here in LA, the Flavour of India is by far the best. The food has a much greater subtlety than is typical of the more 'curry' based restaurants. The flavours are both imaginative and delicious. Their Bhel Puri is the most aromatic appetizer imaginable. Strongly spicy Chana Phindi, perfectly cooked Paneer and the slightly sweet Malai Kofta will satisfy vegetarians, whilst their Tandoori dishes, particularly the shrimp, are presented sizzling and sumptious.
As a real fan of Flavour of India's unique approach to Indian Cuisine, it has been a delight to see how they have built up such a strong following of regulars like me who eat there at least once a week.

My girlfriend and I always wanted to come here and we finally did on Saturday (10/16/04). The owners were very nice and courteous. But the food was just a little bit below average, it could of been just a little bit better. It's different, the curry's got some sweet taste to, it's really not bad, but just below average expectations for the money spent. The decor was nice and its got this real Indian restaurant atmosphere feel to it. An overall great dining experience, again, the below average ratings are only for the food.

I eat here at least once a week and have never had a bad meal here. The Chicken Tikka Marsala is the best. All their curry sauces are made from scratch are are not gloopy or dripping with ghee. The curry of the day is usually magnificent. All the vegetable entrees are good too, particularly the Malai Kofta, which is always a "special". If they don't have what you want on the menu. they'll make it up for you in the kitchen. Free parking available in parking space strapped Weho.

Maybe their lunch isn't good (I haven't tried), but dinner has been great everytime we have gone.

This restaurant has displaced Nawab as my favorite Indian restaurant in L.A. The food is fantastic and the ambience is excellent, great for a romantic night out for two. The staff is very attentive and friendly, cannot recommend it strongly enough if you like good Indian food.
