I have cared for companion animals for 50 years and have experienced the good, bad and ugly (professionally speaking) in regard to veterinarians. Dr. Domotor and her associates have saved animals in crisis from acute renal failure, pancreatic crisis, splenic rupture and have dealt knowledgeably and with appropriate referrals with laryngeal paralysis, everted eyelids and several other issues. The front of house staff as well as the techs have been consistently knowledgeable, professional approachable. We have moved to Oregon and the only thing I miss abpout SoCal is access to Dr. Domotor's clinic.

I started going to Dr. Domotors when I moved to Sierra Madre a few years ago. At the time we had a 70 pound border collie mix that we had adopted. Prior to coming to live with us Maggie lived on the streets of downtown LA with a homeless man for several years. She had been hit by a car at some point (long before we got her) and had other obvious trauma in the past.

On our first appointment I let the staff know that, while she had never bitten anyone, there had been close calls because she was fearful of examinations, etc. I told them that for the safety of their staff we recommended a cloth muzzle and I would assist. For the five years Maggie went to their office each and every time she had an appt. the staff would spend at least 15 minutes with her prior to the appt. trying to help her relax so she wouldn't have to wear the muzzle. They never gave up trying to help our wonderful Maggie. When it was time to help her go (she had an agressive cancer in her mouth) they still kept trying to do all they could without using a muzzle -- and only used it as a last resort for the minute it took to get an iv line in.

I will forever be thankful for their humane, kind, and gentle treatment of Maggie. When I went back to pick up her ashes they surprised me with a plaster print of her paw -- something I truly cherish today.

As for their costs I have found them to be similar to other vets. I appreciate that they suggested not vaccinating our indoor-only, never-exposed-to-other-cats cat without me having to request that first. They also listen to me when discussing the care plan of my pets. I have recommended them several times to friends.

I am stunned to read the bad reviews. I had been taking my female cat elsewhere for 6 years to a vet in Arcadia, where they were way more expensive and she never seemed to get better. The first visit at Dr Domotor was about the same cost, but my kitty loved her, and, let me catch her for a followup visit, which was very inexpensive, and my female is now feeling good and showing it....I often find her relaxed upside down showing her belly, instead of hiding when I looked at her. I think Dr Domotor is amazing. I know she also helped a friend whose dog came from the pound with distemper, and that dog is alive and happy.

I just took my male red head kitty to her, and yes the first visit was expensive, but extensive, and no more expensive than the other vet I was using.

She has a customer for life with me. You can tell that she "connects" to the animals, and she really cares. Don't listen to the other reviews....if you love your pet, this is the place to go!

Who are these people that write bad reviews. They need to get a life!

Everyone was very polite, and Dr. Kanfer is so great with rabbits. My pet actually seemed to be enjoying himself there! There was a bit of a wait (half an hour), but other than that, everything was great.

Although I do not doubt their competence,I resent the fact that the bill for a blood test, and 2 hip xrays, and a $30 perscription, and what they call a comprehensive exam for my dog(what when you bring in your pet you only get a partial exam)could'nt tell the difference from a regular exam. The cost was $400.Plus I was there 2 hrs 45 mins for an 8:45 (third appt of the day)appointment. Two yrs ago it cost me for treatment of another dog for three days $2900,plus another $100 to put her asleep.

Have received excellent care for both dogs since changing to Dr. D's two years ago. Have seen different vets each time yet have always been pleased with the care and concern exhibited by vets and staff alike.

My late 14 year old lab was a patient of Dr Domotors for his whole 14 years!! She literally saved him from Parvo at 6 mo old, even though he had all of his shots. Then he got arthritis and breathing problems, she was always very supportive. The hospital/rooms are soooooo clean you wouldn't even know it was a vet's place, that animals were present. I had to put my sweet boy down and would have NO ONE else do it, but Dr Domotor he was so happy to see HER that he was calm. I was a was a mess, I could not have done it without her. The whole Place was supportive. We love you guys.

Sorry all

I was reviewing for a different vet, but left it here instead. Since I can't delete the whole thing, I have to edit it this way. Sorry.

I own a dog who has a lifelong illness which requires medicine daily. The dog has been seen by Dr. Domotors animal hospital for quite some time. The medication requires a prescription that needs to be refilled quite often. I lost my dogs medication and called the pharmacy to get a refill. When it had not arrived in a few days I called and was informed by the pharmacy that Dr. Domotor would not refill the prescription. We then had to go to the hospital to speak with someone and were told that until the dog had updated blood tests they would not refill the prescription.. This is a medication that is taken daily for over 4 years. They did not even bother to call us and tell us that the dog needed to come in. They are aware that WITHOUT the medication the dog will die.. That did not seem to matter when the next available appointment time was 3 weeks away. They finally agreed to give us a partial refill to get us through until the uneeded appointment. This is not a $$ issue this is a humane and service issue. To top it all off the office manager was obnoxious.

PROS: hmmmm
CONS: rude, overbooked, unnecessary appointments

After spending a substantial amount of money on a couple of pets I called in one late afternoon after I found a senior cat of mine in great distress (obviously needing to be put to sleep) I was told that they could see me 4 days later. I then called Arcadia Small Animal Hospital whom was not my vet and they stayed open late for me and ended up euthanizing my cat. They went above and beyond and actually cared about my cats suffering and never would have asked me or anyone else to wait for days. I also have found the receptionists to be rude and snippy.

Dr. Domoter is a great vet, but the hospital is so busy that when my dog got sick, we could never get an appointment. When he was so sick (vomitting, unable to get up) that we insisted on bringing him in (since they are the ones with years and years of his records), we had to drop him off and then pick him up later with only instructions relayed by the receptionist. (I used to work at a veterinary clinic years ago and my father is an MD. We never turn(ed) away sick patients.) When we didn't understand why certain things were prescribed, the vet was unavailable and we would have to wait until the next day to speak with them. (Also, they kept trying to prescribe MSN for our dog's arthritis, and we had to keep telling them that we had tried it and it gave him neuological problems.) Part of the problem may have been that he was always seen by a different veterinarian. When our dog got really, really sick, he was seen by Dr. Pi, who didn't seem to know very much. She couldn't read our dog's x-rays and couldn't tell for certain that our dog had cancer. She wanted us to go to a radiologist. She could tell that our dog needed his lungs aspirated, but they shaved his entire side for one little needle. They could have at least warned us that they were going to do this. Our pictures of him during his last days are awful because he had a huge bare spot. The staff was very rude and insensitive during the entire ordeal, with one of the receptionists being very rude to my mother when she saw that we had brought our dog back in on the same day. Needless to say, we took our dog and the x-rays to the Santa Anita small animal hospital, where they were able to read his x-rays and tell us about his stomach cancer and to prepare for the fact that he only had a few days left.

PROS:
CONS: Very poor care when it really counts, vets too busy/not knowledgeable

This is a great vet's office with a staff that truly cares about animals. Dr. Domotor and her staff take a lot of time with each animal and they ask a lot of questions before making any recommendations--even for a yearly check-up. I've been very happy with the care they've given my dog and cat and I recommend this office to everyone.

Dr. Domotor is extremely nice and loves animals. I have taken my pets here for years and I am always happy with the service I have received. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. It's located just north of Foothill Blvd near Vons.
