For a good selection of sushi, you should come here and give their selections a whirl. The food looks and tastes fresh, as good sushi should, and best of all, you can you can even mix and match your favorites for one platter, or for the indecisive, go with the Chef's favorites! The only down side to this place is the price, but it's worth the money every so often.

This restuarant is tucked away in the Vons plaza on Governor Drive. Surprisingly, it has pretty good sushi... it quickly became one of our favorite restaurants. It is not usually crowded, so you can get in and out pretty quickly. You can sit at the sushi bar or at the many tables/boothes. The service is usually pretty good. You can call in order to go and they are pretty good with getting your order right and having it ready quickly. They only messed up my to go order once.

Having dined at a lot of Japanese restaurants both in San Diego and the los angeles county, I found Kiku Ya to be sub-par. There were flies loitering around the windows, which didnt make anything more appetizing than it was. The udon was mediocre at best; nothing was really special about the place or the food. However, the one redeeming thing was the crunchy roll, which was superb in comparison to all the other things we had there. Wouldn't recommend; there are better places in San Diego.

Tucked away in the Vons strip mall, Kiku Ya might not impress at first glance. The aging dcor and lack of ambience might turn some diners off, but its not indicative of the quality of the food. The sushi is fresh and well prepared. The sushi bar serves testament to this here as it is generally more popular with customers than the tables. Non-sushi offerings are standard Japanese fare and are decent but unremarkable.

Kiku Ya is certainly not a dining destination, but rather a popular joint for the locals with reasonable prices.

PROS: Fresh, well-prepared sushi.
CONS: Decor, ambience.
