Numero Uno Pizza Pasta & More

This is the only place I'll call when ordering pizza for delivery in Glendale. Others may beat Numero Uno's prices, but I haven't found any pizzeria that tops the quality of this Numero Uno. I deleted other pizzerias from my list when they delivered pizzas with toppings that were so skimpy and finely ground that it looked and tasted more like sawdust.

My favorite is their "The Works" pizza. The crust has a thin, buttery (maybe greasy to some who don't like this sort of thing) and delicately crunchy layer that gives way to a generous, soft, fluffy-fresh layer. The pizza is covered with the most generous layering of toppings I've ever seen -- and all of the toppings are all definitely fresh.

The green peppers and onions are never under or overcooked and are cut coarsely enough to maintain their body and a bit of crunch after enduring the cooking process. The olives are sliced instead of the cheap bits and pieces that other pizzerias use. The peeled tomatoes are a nice size, plump and seedless.

They use the most generous amount of cheese that I've ever had on a pizza. I never receive a pizza with dried out dots or shreds of cheese on it. This pizza has an thick layer of fresh, soft cheese -- almost a solid layer in spots -- that casts long strings when one pulls pieces away from the rest of the pie. The cheese is never the overcooked, rubbery kind that can ruin a good pizza.

The pepperoni is never the tough, curled and dry sort that some other pizzerias use. The pieces of sausage are a good size, flavor and texture.

Delivery costs $1, but it's worth it to me as pick up is a bit of a hassle on Brand Blvd. They do offer free parking in a structure that has an entrance off of the street that borders the block to the north, but that is a little bit of a walk.

You can eat on the premises, but the ambiance is sorely lacking. It's along the lines of a small lunch diner with utilitarian tables and chairs to serve lunch to Brand Blvd.s office workers.

PROS: Fresh, crunchy-tender crust with fresh, generous toppings.
CONS: Dining area is solely utilitarian. Parking not immediately adjacent.
