Seriously a bad school. The principal does not do her job. She has her favorites chosen already, and gives special treatment. My little brother has been bullied for over a month and she has done nothing. She told my mom that my brother has an "imagination." My brother has come home with scratches on the back of his neck that a kid did with a pencil, and the same kid punches my little brother. The teacher and principal blame it on my little brother. They also never informed us that my brother is not on path to go up to the second grade. We are now 5 months into the school year, and barely being informed about this. If it weren't for my mom scheduling an appointment with the principal about the bullying, we probably would have never found out about this. I would not recommend this school to anybody.

Hardy Elementary School is another thriving elementary school in the city. This school makes is the "little school" capable of big things. I like to consider this a great "my first" elementary school for children. The school has everything you would expect to find at an elementary school from a caring staff, to a wonderful learning environment. The curriculum does what it can, based on California standards, and the teachers help make this school what it is. With a strong emphasis on succeeding, learning, and growing, the teachers get involved in the lives of their students, encourage them, and "keep them going" as kids go through the normal, everyday routine of school life. Like most California elementary schools, this one is overcrowded, but they are really working on making sure that the classrooms, and the performance of the school doesn't suffer because of that. There are plenty of staff members to go around, and they are truly devoted to their jobs, to their students, and to their school. Kids get a sense of belonging here; that they might not find at other schools in the area, and they are led to believe that learning really can be fun, which it should be, but so often isn't in California schools. Parent involvement is encouraged, and achieved at a very high level, compared to other local elementary schools. The parents are encouraged to voice their opinions, and help initiate change, and I think that's one of the biggest reasons that this school has not fallen through the cracks, like so many other over crowded elementary schools have. Parking is minimal, but that seems to be the case with most elementary schools these days. If you are looking for a great elementary school to start your child at, this is the place to start. Your child will learn everything they should, and probably a little more, as well as pick up social skills and respect that will carry him/her through middle school, high school, and beyond!

PROS: Caring teachers. Strong curriculum.
CONS: Parking.

Hardy Elementary school is a very good school in the San Diego State area. If you live by state and are starting a family and have kids starting school, I would definately consider Hardy. It's a great school, wonderful teachers, and a fun atmosphere. If you live close, consider this one first.

I put my first child here earlier this year. I was looking for a safe school where the parents were involved and sure enough this school is safe and has a high level of parent involvement. The only thing that bothers me is that there aren't a lot of visitor parking spaces. If you came during school hours, you would need to park in a visitors space, but if they are all taken you can park on the field provided there arent any classes having recess there AND if you happen to park there and go into the school and they close the gates for recess you have to wait until recess is over to get your car.

They have a wonderful PTA that hold many events throughout the year and a beautiful, well kept campus. The teacher/student ratio is getting better and better.
