Needed a new water pump for my outboard. A fairly simple repair which should cost around $250 with labor (according to 3 other marine stores). Being a big supporter of mom & pop stores, I took it to Redondo Marine Hardware. Russ, who lacks in every way in customer service told me he would have it done the following week. When I went to pick it up, without even turning to look at me, he bluntly told me,""Ya, it's not done."" Now, at this point any good business owner would apologize and tell you when they would have it ready. Nothing...I had to pull answers from this guy. Telling me it would be done the following week, I returned once again only to have the exact same scenario play out. Frustrated, I had Russ show me what was going on. He took me in the back where I saw my worst night mare of a repair shop. My engine, along with others was spread out in pieces amongst all the other parts. He wasn't even sure which parts were mine. I should have pulled out at this point, but I waited another week. Guess what?! It still was not finished. I abandoned my commute this time and called. Russ is no different on the phone than in person, greatly lacking in personality. Long story Long, after 4 weeks I finally got my engine at the tune of $435. I should have sent them a bill for my slip fee since my boat didn't move for a month. After mounting my engine, not only did they screw up my throttle, but they didn't seal the extension so water pees out from the joint rather than the pee hole. After venting my frustration to several people in my marina, I discovered that I was not alone and that it is common knowledge this guy does shabby work and over charges. Apparently $400+ is the standard scam this operation pulls.
