The jewels, Cody and Black, Oaks are gone. Hope we can keep this gem of a book store.
Small IS beautiful.

Ownership recently changed hands once again, as the dearly departed owner has departed for the East Coast. Under the stewardship of the previous owner, Signal Books built a niche as the go-to bookstore for graphic novels, handmade zines, rare illustrations, political titles, and some camp and kitsch. It also carries many of the books for UC Berkeley's Journalism school students.
I think Signal Books is more eye-opening and interested in the edge of culture than most other bookstores. I would never expect such a bookstore to play hostess in sleepy North Berkeley, which is always a bit stuck in its ways, but that's part of its charm.
