Rosie's is just the best. There are yards and yards of any type of fabric you might want. And also any type of pattern you might be looking for. Be prepared to have time to look through the entire store. There is also a section with any type of tool you might need to use during sewing and quilting. It was my first time there and I will definitely be going back.
Rosie's Calico Cupboard quilt shop has generously donated a quilt for each child who attends Camp Kesem @ UCSD, a summer camp for kids whose parents have/had cancer, for the last several summers. The kids love their quilts- the workmanship of each is utterly amazing and the variety in quilts to choose from is great. The staff and volunteers who make these quilts at Rosie's truly have wonderful spirits and hearts to undertake such a huge task, and I hope they can see the amazing impact of their work has on the kids at camp!
Rosies Calico Cupboard is a fantastic store for quilters, those who love cottons and flannels, and anyone in need of reprints of historically based material. They offer classes at one end of their elongated building in a tidy, creativity-inspiring room. Next to this room is the selection of flannels. Beyond is the main fabric selection, organized mainly by color and secondarily by style. There are two smaller rooms off of this. One contains oriental and ethnic prints. The other contains reproductions from the Civil War, 1930s and 40s, pioneer calico, etc. In addition, there is an area full of helpful tools, patterns and the like geared towards quilters. It is slightly higher priced than chain-store competitors, however this is to be expected. The staff all seem to know their way around sewing machines, the materials they stock, and are very good at helping when needed.
