How Much Is Your Time Worth?

by Benjamin S.

I will admit up front that I despise Home Depot. Every time I go there, for even the simplest things, I find myself wandering around for an hour looking, asking staff who have no idea where anything is, and frequently leave empty-handed. Then I'll go to B & B and find it right away. It amazes me how a store with 5% of the floor space of Home Depot always has what I need...and everyone who works there knows where everything is. Staff is usually friendly, but occasionally a little gruff if it's busy and you don't get to the point.

If you need plants, lumber, major appliances, or want to browse kitchen cabinets and carpeting, go to Depot. If you need HARDWARE, B & B is the place. Trust me.

Definitely an old-fashioned place

by Katrina K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,904

I've stopped at B & B on occasion when Home Depot didn't have the special piece of hardware I was looking for (it's happened a few times), and they do have a great selection of obscure items hidden in that store. I've found the staff to be a bit surly at times--they haven't generally been as friendly to me as the rest of the reviews would suggest. I also wouldn't come here for tools on a regular basis, since their prices are a bit higher than I'm used to for average hand tools and power tools.

Best hardware store

by Claus S. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,040

I love going here. No matter what I need, they have it! Their selection is unbeatable. At the same time, they're not as large and impersonal as, say, Home Depot. It's still more of a "neighborhood store" feel. The staff is friendly. Also, exchanges are unproblematic - I once exchanged the same type of item twice within a few minutes and the CSR just smiled at me when I came back!

Pride of West LA hardware.

by Hugo R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,346

B and B hardware is the most popular hardware store in the Venice, Culver City, Mar Vista area maybe even in the whole West Los Angeles area. Friendly service, great selection, great quality. This is probably the best hardware store I have been to. Serving the community for as long as I can remember. Get it all here, you will not be dissappointed, I go there for anything I need, and sometimes just to look around and see what I can use. The associates are always helpful and always know the best way to use the products.

Tired of Home Depot?

by Mary M. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,771

This quaint place is a real refreshing experience. The store is relatively small,
so it's easy to find what you're looking for. The help are attentive, and the prices are right.
If you're in the trade, you can get a yellow discount card, which can often save you
additional money as well. Home Depot may be cheaper, but I need some hand-on assistance,
and this place gives that. I think they still make duplicate keys for 25 cents. It's worth it just
to go there for that.

PROS: great prices and service
CONS: store is a bit shabby

Old-Fashioned Service, Top-Notch Quality

by Corinne L.

When you're looking for hardware people who know what they're talking about, the hard-working, long-time staff at B&B can't be beat. You're not dealing with the hard-to-find, can't-be-bothered staff of those large "home&hardware" stores. Excellent array of hardware supplies.

nice, old school store

by John G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,205

Old school hardware store filled with just about everything you need. Prices are often competitive with larger chains like Home Depot. Good return policy and friendly employees.

The best hardware store on the Westside -- skip Home Depot and come here instead. They stock pretty much anything you could need and they have a very large, well trained and courteous staff -- who actually know what they're talking about!

When I moved to Mar Vista 8 years ago, everyone said B & B was THE place to go if you needed a hardware store. Now that I've moved to Santa Monica, I STILL drive down to B & B for my hardware needs...
