Cheese 'N Stuff

This is one of the spots any Cal student can point out for you. Some of the fraternities even have meal plans here. The sandwiches are tasty and cheap. They also have a selection of sides available. My choice is usually a turkey sandwich with a vitamin water. Perfect.

The people who run this joint are really low-key and awesome. They always have coupons in the newspapers so if you're a starving student clip one out and get a sandwich for cheap.

I'm glad everybody doesn't know about this place. It's a hidden gem but they have a pretty good cold sandwich for $3.50. Grab a bag of chips for a dollar more. Berkeley has good food and you can definitely find better sandwiches around but not for this price. Great everyday food if you don't like making lunch. Hooray for poor college student food!

Cheese N Stuff is located in the breezeway of a building just past the corner of Durant and Telegraph. The inside of this deli is small, but their display case is filled with meats, cheeses, salads, and other dishes. Their sandwiches are incredibly cheap -- perfect for the college crowd -- but definitely don't lack on taste. Choose from a wide assortment of breads, meats, cheeses and other topings, and they'll build you a sandwich you'll wish would never end.

The owner is pretty much always there, serving up yummy food and a friendly smile. The inside of the store is covered in Cal paraphernalia, and they are a big supporter of Cal athletic teams.

The line can get long, particularly around lunch time. But don't get discouraged. The line moves quickly, and the workers are efficient.

PROS: Really tasty, cheap sandwiches
CONS: Can be a pain to find
