This veterinary clinic might not be for everyone, but I won't go anywhere else unless I absolutely have to. Yes, I too have had go-rounds with "Bow Lady." After taking my animals there for about 5 years, she refused to give me a re-fill on ear medication for my dog when that's what Dr. Jones had told me to do in order to treat this chronic condition. I yelled, she yelled, then she wrote a horrible note on the outside of my file to permanently document me as a crappy pet owner. The next day I called in to demand that she be fired only to find out she was the wife. I now try to be "sweet" to her, and she is civil most of the time - the old kill 'em with kindness MO.

Dr. Jones and Dr. Dell are two of the most skilled and experienced vets I have encountered. They ask the right questions, get to the bottom of the issue and heal animals whenever possible. Dr. Dell saved the life of my dog who had a severed artery and had lost 1/2 of her blood volumn! Dr. Jones - tried and true - dedicated, smart, compassionate and honest. A family run vet office for people who appreciate being treated like a member of the family.

The worst vet experience ever! We made a neuter appointment and things were going well. During our first time visit, the office waiting room was packed due to a short staff. The office manager was extremely rude to everyone on the phone and in the waiting room. You will have no privacy as she loudly asks financial, medical, and personal information.

There are written laws about medical privacy, and this lady has no boundaries. Also, one client brought in 2 cats and they only returned 1 cat. It took over 40 minutes for them to find her other cat. Never go to this place!

If you want to get antagonized by the most unhappy person in LA, have fun. Maybe the doctors are nice, but I could not stay and be treated horribly by the front desk lady. Therefore, I will take my puppy elsewhere. Avoid at all costs! No parking, packed waiting room, and poor treatment.

Justine - Look you idiot - stop the crap about Bow Lady - this is the most caring and humane vet practice I have dealt this -- sure it smells a little - that is because they refuse to use harmful chemicals. Any one who has dealt the the heartless nature of people, and how cheap they are. People will pay $10 to see a movie but not to give shots to their pet. Tell me Justin, what 'new' item have you purchased lately in return for not seeking 'free services' for your beloved pet? Dr. Jones is one of the few that will accept these certifications so you can go buy yourself something nice. Shame on you.If I had to deal with careless, heartless, self centered idiots like you all day, I would need to wear bows to keep my sanity too! Get a life and give you pet a better home than you are capable of giving!

To KnollRick:

When you take your sick and dying child to the hospital do you say "should we pull the plug"? and do they say sure - or do they say 'let's do tests first?' If they do tests - do they guarantee your child will live? Dr. Jones is a patient advocate. You asked him a question and he responded with the best ethical professional response possible.

Haven't you ever gone to a mechanic for your car - been charged thousands of dollars - only to find the problem wasn't fixed at all? THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES BUB - ESPCIALLY WORKING IN LIFE AND DEATH SITUATIONS!

God forbid you have children that need your support someday!

Dr. Jones is on the side of the patient - he has never gouged anyone for anything - but plenty of 'caring' pet owners have left without paying bills, failed to pick up their sick and dying loving pets because they didn't want to pay the bill. He is in a practice that leaves one heartbroken every day by the unfeeling, inhumane, illogical actions of callous humans like YOU!

I took my kitten here to get neutered because it was listed as a place that offered free neutering in conjunction with the West Los Angeles pound. I dropped my cat off in the morning and was told he would be ready by noon and to check back. When I called at noon I was told to check back at 6 pm that he would be ready for pick-up then. When 6 rolled around and I had had enough of the rude receptionist I decided to go to the vet and pick my cat up. When I got there I demanded my cat back, and was told that he was "under sedation" and I couldn't have him. When I said I was not comfortable with them performing the surgery that I wanted my cat Dr. Jones came out screaming at me that he had been working all day without a break and he didn't have time to work on my cat. I was resolved to rescue my cat from this unsanitary vet clinic and told him that they should never have told me that they would do the surgery. Dr. Jones went into the back and threw things around making a lot of noise and a young assistant brought my cat back out in his carrier. The disgustingly rude receptionist (Bow Lady?) tried to tell me that not a lot of places offer free neutering but I assured her that I had a list of other places I could take my cat to. When I got home my cat was not under sedation at all! I was lied to, condescended to and I'm not even the one who is handled by the vet. I would NEVER take my pets there again, the staff is horribly rude, the place itself stinks and appears unsanitary and they apparently care more about money than providing care to animals. Would give no stars if possible.

I have been taking my cat to Dr. Jones since I discovered him as he was the only vet I could find who would treat a pigeon I had found with a gaping neck wound, and then another one months later with a broken wing.
This is what first drew me to his office when I inherited a kitty with ALOT of problems(who eventually passed) but lived a good 20 years....
I now have 2 new cats and feel the utmost confidence in introducing them to this office as their doctors of choice.
The prices are somewhat affordable(although don't expect to be able to be "billed") and they try to work with your situation.
The one occasional drawback is the aforementioned woman who, yes, happens to be Dr. Jones' wife.
A few times she has made me feel like some kind of animal abuser just because I was being a little cautious with my spending on questionable procedures, even so,I have seen her make efforts lately to be a bit more pleasant(perhaps these reviews have had something to do with that).
To me it is worth the slight travel and occasional wait..and the rest of the staff are awesome.
And those complaining about the smell?? It's not a bakery...and to be honest,I have never sensed an unpleasant aroma there.

The Bow lady with the odd glittery outfits and nasty disposition is his wife. She's never been mean to me but she was mean to just about every other person there, very rude, insulting, demeaning. I agree that Dr. Jones and the other Dr. are very nice and knowledgeable. I was going to Dr. Jones because the prices were okay and they were pretty good. The last two times I was there the wife made my bill. It was three times higher than what I was quoted earlier! It was double what'd you pay at any other vet except VCA. She charged me for things they never even did. The last time I went there it was like they were hurting for money ordering all these extra tests which weren't needed. The cat was dying, it was obvious. I said should we euthanize? He said, oh no, let's just run more expensive tests, and the cat died. I was left with a dead animal and a huge bill. I'm not going back.

I used to go to Dr. Jones until my last two bad visits. I brought a dying cat to Dr. Jones. I already knew she was dying. He insisted on many expensive tests which showed...she was dying. I asked if I should euthanize her. He said "no, she just needs more tests." She had more tests and died. I ended up paying $1,500 in two hours for a dead cat. As soon as she died and there were no more tests to bill me for, they totally ignored me, not even eye contact. They hand you the big bill while you are crying so you can't even read it through the tears and just hand them a card. I thought it would be the same as the estimate. No,three times higher!

Suzann his wife who wears big bows in her hair is very rude, condescending and mean to people. She attacks everyone unless you kiss her behind. Even then she will still double or triple your bill when she is on duty. I think they must have financial problems. They are using extreme guilt to guilt people into more tests and unnecessary treatments. They make you feel really bad if you don't spend all the money you have and max at your credit cards on dying animals.

Ken Jones animal clinic is a pet hospital that puts the animals first, but remembers and instills kindness and caring to the owners of the animals as well.
Truly, Dr. Ken Jones, Dr. Dell, and Dr. Berrell, Dr. Leslie, every technician and office assistant has held a place of loving, caring, knowledge and service for the 10 years I've been going. They care about the total well being all involved and they demonstrate that in all ways every time I go. The office is clean and it is by far the nicest animal hospital I've ever worked with. Just wanted to express all the good about the clinic, because that is all my experience with them has ever been. A BIG THANKS Ken Jones for staying in loving service to people and animals year after year after year. - Marilyn Hill

I read all the reviews before going to this clinic and most of them were good, but I would have to say that the bad reviews were much more like the reality than the good reviews. First, I waited for an hour and a half and I was the only one in the waiting room! Second, The staff is not helpful and the facility is very unclean! Even though their prices are a bit lower than others in the area, this Vet is not worth risking your pets health. Above that the staff (mainly the older red head woman) are rude and do not care about you or your pet. They are more interested in getting your money!!! I will never take my pet here again! BEWARE!!!

I agree with most of the previously posted reviews. Dr. Jones and Dr. Dell truly care about the health and wellness of your pet. They are understanding and accommodating and it is these qualities which saved our pet's life. I cannot commend them enough for their compassion and willingness. Our pet is now a life-long patient.
However, there do tend to be long waits and once a week they employ a very unpleasant lady at the front desk. Six days out of the week, their staff is flawless. But that one day when she is working can easily turn into a nightmare. She often wears glittery outfits and bows in her hair and if you see her just return the next day. But definitely return! The overall excellence of Dr. Jones' practice easily compensates the one unpleasant staff member.

I am a first time client. I have a 15 yr old cat who rarely leaves my home. I found KJ Veterinary Hosp. online. The Dr. Dell is amazing! She gave the VERY BEST care to "Milo". She was compassionate and attentive to my cats needs. The Hospital is very affordable compared to other Westside pet hospitals. They take care of your pet first and didn't give me the run around. I finally found a caring Vet in Dr. Dell and will be a customer for as long as I live on the Westside.

My vet had just closed at 5pm, I was on my way out of town with my dog and I needed to buy 'revolution' for him before I left (he's been on revolution since he was a pup) and we were going camping so I didn't want to take any chances. So I decided to try this little shack that I always passed by and dismissed as dirty and old (kenneth Jones vet). I get there, there is no easy place to park, I walk in, ask the large scary lady at the front desk if I'm parked legally, she rolls her eyes and says that if I'm in the dentist spot I will be towed (that's info that I already knew from reading the signs, she clearly didn't care enough to explain which ones where to dentists spots). As she's rolling her eyes, I couldn't help but notice the urine smell and the dingy dirty county grandma decor. I then proceeded to explain my situation to her, This time she actually YELLED at me. "WE DON'T SELL REVOLUTION, YOU'LL KLL YOUR DOG WITH THAT!!!!" she was upset that I was not a regular client of theirs, and in a huff sold me an older and far less effective product. I was glad to be out of there, and felt really bad for the people who actually use this place. It is possible that kenneth Jones might be a good vet, but clearly they lack the latest research, and let's face it, this is santa monica and with all the great choices and modern/holistic Vet care that you can get just down the street, why would anyone bother with this awefull place.

I had recently started a new job and so when my 20 year old cat became ill, I was unablt to take her to the vet during normal hours. I was so relieved that Dr. Jones's office was open 7 days a week, and didn't charge emergency fees. The entire staff are wonderful and caring people and I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Jone's clinic to every pet parent I know. They are worth the drive and with my new kitty, she will always go to only Dr. Jones. They are the best I have seen.

Our cat was injured at the beginning of the year and we had to visit Dr. Jones practice once a week for a few months. We met almost everyone who worked there and could not have been more pleased with the care we all received. We never had to wait too long (although we were always the 1st or last of the day), we never had to pay too much. DB, on the front desk is efficient and caring and she is a big reason we like it there so much. We feel blessed that we live so close to such a nice care facility.

I can only assume the people who wrote even remotely good reviews for this place are people who actually work there and are trying to mask the truth...

This was THE WORST vet experience I've ever had. I didn't want to judge it from it's first impression, which was unsanitary and a bit sketchy, but I really have to say -- it was all of that. The place smelled awful, we were skipped over and waited an hour just to see a clinician. All of this for a pushed, looong laundry list of tests and treatments they wanted to give my cat. The doctor was clearly trying to pull a fast one on me, the receptionist just fear mongered and made all the pet owners feel like their pet's issue was way worse than it actually was and they wanted to keep him overnight to pump him full of meds without even knowing what was wrong with him in the first place. I do not recommend this place to anyone for any reason.

I ended up taking my cat with me before they could do anything to him and just paid for the exam to avoid what it would have cost me for ALL of the other senseless tests and an unnecessary overnight visit. It would have cost me NEARLY $900!

Save your time (and money) and go elsewhere...

OH... and if you can believe it, we were verbally hassled by a mean old lady on the way out.

I can only assume the people who wrote even remotely good reviews for this place are people who actually work there and are trying to mask the truth...

Pros: Sorry to say -- none.

Cons: Bamboozle people to pay for unecessary tests, Smells, Dirty, Unsanitary, Sketchy

I too joined just so that I could write this review. I went to Dr. Jones after reading the great reviews on insiderpages, and I was not disappointed. I took my kitty in at the end of the work day, skeptical that I would even be able to be seen, and I was warmly greeted and able to be seen within 15 minutes. It was my cat's first vet visit, so she needed al her shots and a check up, as well as FIV and leukemia tests and a shot for tapeworms. I figured it would cost a fortune, but even with buying some Advantage flea medicine the total came out to less than $150. All of these things would normally cost $300-$400! Also, the doctor and staff were first rate, They really treated each animal I saw there as if they were a VIP, taking time with each one and giving personalized service. I highly recommend this vet and can assure you that Dr. Jones will remain my kitty's one and only vet.

I am so thankful that this vet's office exists. I have taken stray kittens there to be fixed and vaccinated when no other place would take them without an appointment. They also treated the mother cat who was extremely difficult to handle. She is now tame and a wonderful pet. I go there for my cat's annual exam even though it is far from my house. I highly reccomend this vet's office because they are very caring and have reasonable prices. You may have to wait a while when you go there but at least you can come without an appointment.

I brought my new puppy here for a check up and was told she was fine. A couple days later, she was throwing up and it turned out she had parvo. The doctor told us nothing about the treatment except that they needed to keep her for about 3 days and that we should call later in the evening to check on her. She did not counsel us regarding anything, especially the cost. In fact, she said nothing about the cost. Instead, she took the dog to the back and told us to pay at the front desk. It was $1200 and could have been more if my dog had ended up staying longer than the estimated 3 days). Obviously, we were willing to pay and did pay, but I can't believe that the vet would hand me a bill like that without even discussing it. My dog did survive, so they did something right. Howevever, overall I was really bothered by my experiences there. Needless to say, I found a new vet! Oh yeah, I was even charged another exam fee for the parvo diagnosis even though I had already paid an exam fee 2 days earlier when I was told my dog was healthy.

I join this site to tell you how great this place is.
Dr. Jones' facility may not the the newest place BUT, let me tell you, they have the most caring and best staff around (from the doctor's to the assistants to the reception). And they are there when you need them. Unlike places where you have to make an appointment (they are first come first serve) they always see you you don't send you to another facility. Yes, you might have to wait (15 to 30 min. at the very most has been my experience) but they are open 7 days a week until 7pm every night and to me that is DEDICATION folks. When they see your pet -you would think he is the only animal around - that is care at their best.

The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating and the hours are great, especially if you work full time (or more)! Beyond that, they are caring, take the time to explain what they are doing to your pet and since going to them, I feel no worry leaving my pets in their capable hands. Dr. Jones has a great way with the animals and I can't imagine trusting anyone else as much as him and his office.

PROS: Excellent service, great people, reasonable costs and great hours
CONS: Sometime you have to wait a bit

I joined this group just to do this review. I found these reviews while searching for Dr. Jones's address so we could drive 30 miles tonight rather than go to any closer vet. Dr. Jones is singular in his caring service, which is delivered at a cost 1/2 or less of what most vets charge. He is easily the most competent vet any of our 5 cats have seem in the 25 yeard we have lived in LA.

PROS: Low cost, Immediate care, caring care, competent care
CONS: First come first served means wait times a small trade-off.

Dr. Jones and staff are kind and helpful. They are animal lovers and give good and reasonably priced care, but the waiting room and examining rooms can be a bit grubby and smelly.

PROS: Kind and attentive, reasonably priced
CONS: A bit shabby and smelly

A good practice with friendly staff, but they don't book appointments. It's basicaly first come, first served. This is good if you have something come up at the last minute... you know you can show up and eventually have your pet seen. On the other hand, no appointments also means you will probably be waiting for awhile before the vet can see you.
