Very spicy food. If you don't want their fusion drinks there is very little to choose from. Tables are very close together limiting private conversations. Probably won't go back. Trader Vics is just down the street

Great food and atmosphere!!
by Martha T.
I have been to the other Straits Cafe created by famed chef Chris Yeo and this one tops them all. The Palo Alto location has the best food and service, not to mention its romantic settings. I definitely recommended it all those who are looking for a great place for dates.

Straits Cafe - Used to be great

This used to be a favorite restaurant. However, the food quality has gone downhill - steak that used to be tender is now tough, duck that used to be reasonably crisp and lean is fatty, etc.. The last couple of times I've been there, the food has been at a level where, if it had been the first time, I would never have gone back. The goodwill this restaurant had built has now been used up.

Straits is my favorite upscale restaurant in Palo Alto. I love the unique combinations of tastes in the food. I hate shellfish, but I love the crab at Straits. They also have a good wine selection. The dining area is a bit small and cramped, but once the food arrives, I forget everything else. I've also been to the Strait's on Santana Row, and it isn't nearly as good.

Straits restaurant offers an extensive menu of the most intersting dishes. The fish dishes are excellent as are the chicken dishes. The chicken satay is outstanding but the bread is my all time favorite. They also have intereting coktails.

The food is ok, certainly not a bargain. The restaurant is very loud and there are often large groups or babies. Not a good place for a quiet dinner. We had a large (20) birthday gathering there and did not have a good experience. We gave up a couple of seats for no-shows and were charged for dinners for the no-shows. The dinner ended up at $70 per person for 1 drink and dinner (no dessert).
PROS: Nice ladies room
CONS: Very expensive, loud, disappointing food

out of the ordinary

The food here is Singaporean fusion, and it is quite delicious. There are lots of options on the menu. Love the roti prata (flat bread with dipping sauce) which can be shared with a group. This place can be quite crowded and you will want reservations, even at lunch. The drink menu is exotic and fun. The prices are on the high side but worth it.
PROS: unusual and good
CONS: not cheap

Straits Cafe serves South Asian food with a western twist. The food is excellent and they have many many creative dish (so many that I can't even name one now). It's a fun place to go as a group so you can try all the different dishes.

Wonderful asian cuisine! On warm evenings the outdoor patio is perfect - you don't realize you are on El Camino. The atmosphere is elegant. They also serve some pretty tasty cocktails like lemon drops and martinis.

This restaurant serve Singapore fusion style food. The food here is mostly moderate or very spicy. All the items on the menu are very pricy and serving portions are between small to medium. The restaurant decor is good and having meals there is quite comfortable. Service is 4 stars. There are always crowd in the restaurant. But due to the prices, I won't recommend for frequent visit.

Very good food, but if you don't like spicey, watch out. The Roti Prata is a "can't miss". Make reservations on weekends. They could use a larger bar area for people waiting for tables.

The restaurant has a nice ambience and if you are going with a bigger group you could sit outside in a backyard type setting. The food is nice, somewhat fusion of singaporean and malayasian and their presentation is very nice too. The food is pricy, so a visit is justified for special occasions.
