The Brite Spot can be hit or miss. There's no question that it has a lovely, old-fashioned feel to it and that its booths are great places for a catch-up and a gossip. And sometimes, if you order right and on a day when it's not too busy, you can end up sated and satisfied. The pancakes, for example, are always a fluffy treat. But occasionally the Brite Spot experience is soured: an excessive wait for the food to arrive, omelets that are too greasy, fries that are cold and stodgy. The secret to enjoying the Brite Spot is to go along with the awareness that there might be a few bum notes in an otherwise good song.
