A Mixed Bag

by Patrick C.

The Brite Spot can be hit or miss. There's no question that it has a lovely, old-fashioned feel to it and that its booths are great places for a catch-up and a gossip. And sometimes, if you order right and on a day when it's not too busy, you can end up sated and satisfied. The pancakes, for example, are always a fluffy treat. But occasionally the Brite Spot experience is soured: an excessive wait for the food to arrive, omelets that are too greasy, fries that are cold and stodgy. The secret to enjoying the Brite Spot is to go along with the awareness that there might be a few bum notes in an otherwise good song.

Excellent for meat lovers and vegetarians

by Naomi F. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,602

As a person who loves both meat dishes and vegetarian items a like, the brite spot has become one of my favorite places to eat. They have an endless vegetarian selection plus awesome meaty options like chicken fried steak and meatloaf. I personally love the waffle combo, vegetarian burrito, soup and grilled cheese sandwitch, and their salads. Margaret is the best server!

Good food (including vegetarian), great atmosphere!

by Susan R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,819

Been going to Brite Spot regularly these past couple months. The food is good. They serve family style food, but they have a lot of vegetarian fare on the menu. They ALSO are aware of persons having special dietary needs, like diabetes, and provide Sugar Free syrups and such. It is almost always busy, but seats are quickly available. At 10 pm, they also bring in a DJ. This is quickly becoming a "new" trendy spot in Echo Park despite having been in business since 1947.
