Compassionate, Caring and Quality Service

by Liza A. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,590

Our family has been clients of Dr. Rocha at Firestone Animal Hospital (FAH) since he was first located accoss the street from All American Home Center. The office has since moved and I continue using his services because they have always provided compassionate, caring and quality veterinarian services. As for the rates, they are comparable to other veterinarian hospitals.

It was Oct. 2005 and our dog Chaco, a 9 lbs toy fox terrier was hit by a car. Chaco had serious trauma, collapsed lungs, internal bleeding and a fracture to his leg that looked like a million shattered pieces of glass on the X-ray. We immediately contacted FAH. Because it was after hours, the on call service referred us to a 24 hour ER Animal Hospital in Norwalk. Chaco spent the night in ICU and fortunately made it through that night. The next morning we transferred Chaco (after paying $1,800 for a night in ICU) to FAH. Dr. Rocha was very honest as was the ICU in Norwalk and said the fractured leg may not be repairable. We asked for the alternative (surgery) accepting the risks fully explained by Dr. Rocha. Chaco had surgery to remove the pieces of shattered bone and insert a titanium replacement. We expected a 4-5 day inpatient recovery, but Dr. Rocha and his wife noticed Chaco was depressed after my visits and would not eat unless I would visit mid day during my lunch hour and hand feed him. Dr. Rochas wife even made Chaco home made chicken broth hoping to provide some nourishment. In the end, Dr. Rocha encouraged me to take him home after 3 days and provided specific directions on caring for him and a scheduled follow up visit a week after.

Chaco is now 11 years old and runs and plays like the car accident never happened. His nickname is The Bionic Dog and we have Dr. Rocha to thank for that. I highly recommend Dr. Rocha, a skilled and professional veterinarian and surgeon.

love their old fashioned service with modern amenities

by Anonymous

It seems like they're a family business who serves each client and their pet individually. They really treated us well, and Dr. Rocha was great. My dog was hit by a car and the Dr. reconstructed his jaw and his leg...now he's doing great. I highly recommend this hospital!

Great Hospital Great People

by cattzndogz

PLEASE NOTE: My family, friends, and I have been grateful clients of Firestone Animal Hospital for years. Dr. Rocha is an excellent practitioner. His staff is wonderful. I advised them of what seemed to be illegal and immoral negative "reviews" on this and other sites. Their attorney is in the process of handling the matter, but until that legal process is done, it is important that anyone who visits this site be aware of the following: Most of the negative reviews on this site were posted by the same individual- Adriana Sanchez- aka "AdrianaS", "dm36905", "face licking dog lover", etc... . They are fabricated and completely false. This person even has "conversations" with herself on the site. She is on a raging, maniacal rampage to harass Dr. Rocha with libelous, defamatory, fictional comments simply because: he cordially asked her to leave his practice due to her disrespectful, rude, and pernicious behavior in the exam room. That's it. They've been around for many years, and what a shame it is to have someone who obviously has not only plenty of time on their hands, but no direction or moral standards, make it their mission of revenge to try to tarnish a veterinarian's reputation. If you have pets, visit the hospital or their website for accurate reviews. Or, a personal recommendation is always best, for this or any veterinarian. The internet- due to its lack of control- has ruined the possibility for accurate and reputable criticism due to an immoral, irresponsible an unprincipled brand of person. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Very Nice Veterinarian

by MorganPirandello

My doberman Jenny was mauled by a pit-bull and a chow almost six months ago. We came in to this hospital late in the day, without calling, and immediately the staff and the Dr. rushed to help us. Even though it was fairly busy, they tended to her first for 45 minutes because of the severity of her wounds. She was hospitalized for six days. During that time, the Dr. would visit and treat her continuously; I met him at the hospital three times after midnight to visit and support her...she is really part of our family. After Dr. Rocha stabilized her, he performed reconstructive surgery on her jaw which was virtually shattered and torn apart. The results are a miracle. Especially heartwarming is the manner in which Jenny is grateful to the Dr. ...as if she knew exactly what he did for her. His expertise and dedication- together with his staff's- is a rarity. All of us are so grateful. We - as a family- highly recommend Dr. Rocha.

Pros: Helpful, informative staff; Committed; Fair Prices

Awful!

by concerned dog lover

I adopted a severely neglected Golden Retriever, who I named Buddy, and is approximately ten years old. I looked over a neighbor?s fence roughly two weeks ago and saw a dog that was clearly starving and living in a waste filled yard. I went to the neighbor and demanded he give me the dog or I would call the authorities. He gave me the dog, and I cared for him for about two weeks before he began to trust me enough to get close to him.
When I gained his trust, I decided he needed to go to the vet. Unfortunately, my regular vet was closed on Saturday, August 15th so I decided to take the dog to Firestone Animal Hospital. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the Doctor?s very rude wife who did not even bother to acknowledge my presence until a few minutes had passed. When we were taken into the exam room a medical assistant took Buddy?s temperature and he had a 105.2 fever. Dr. Rocha came into the exam room and was very hesitant to even touch Buddy. I was trying to explain to him that I did not know Buddy very well or his normal behavior because he had only been in my care for about two weeks but he did not care to listen. He instructed me to try and move Buddy so that he could listen to his breathing but I could not. I am 5?3? tall and 115 lbs, and Buddy weighed in at a healthy 75 lbs. Obviously, I would not be able to move the dog. I told him if he could ask one of his staff members to help him handle the dog and he replied in a very angry tone ?the dog knows you better so you should handle him.? This was completely ridiculous because being the owner of four large dogs, I have been to many vets and not once have I been told to handle my dogs. Someone always helps the doctor. Then when he was asking me questions about the dog?s normal behavior, I was unable to answer because I was not too familiar with the dog and I repeated it to him. He yelled at me and told me ?why didn?t the owner come, the dog can?t talk and only the owner would know his normal behavior!? Obviously, he was not listening when I told him that the owner did not care about the dog. At this point he made me angry and I asked him, ?What do you do when someone adopts a dog from the shelter or they bring a stray in for medical care, the person doesn?t know the animal nor does the animal know the person? It?s your job to find out what?s wrong with the animal!? He became angry and told me that he could not help me and that I should find another vet who could. He kicked me out with an ill senior dog with 105 degree fever. The least he could have done was give Buddy something to help reduce the fever, but he just didn?t care.

Luckily, I found a vet near-by that was just about to close but when I told them that Buddy had a105 fever, they took me right away. Buddy had a severe ear infection in both ears. He was given fluids to help reduce the fever and antibiotics for the infection. I?m happy to say that in only two days he looked much happier, and the behavior that I had been familiar with over the past two weeks changed and he began to act the way I presume he normally would.

Cons: everything
