I brought in a big bag of clothing to try to consign here last week, and although I had to wait a little and wasn't greeted right away, they have a sign in sheet to sell stuff, and they all looked busy.

So I started browsing and then a girl called my name to come over to look at my things that I brought in, and then I went back to browsing while she did that. She called me over again within maybe 5 or 6 minutes, and told me the amount I can get in cash for 3 of my things, or trade in for 50% - I took the cash. I politely asked why she only took 3 things, and which ones...and she gave a simple but nice answer, about being in season and so on. Although I felt a bit miffed that I had to drag my big bag out again, at least I got 8.75 in cash - so I went to Starbucks. Hahaha...

They are undergoing some renovations, so it was very noisy with guys drilling in front, which quickly got irritating, but other than that, I enjoyed browsing the wide variety of dresses, tops and other clothing for women. They also have guys clothes, and it is pretty well organised by size and color. If you go to consign there, don't bring too much at once, and make sure it is not too old and is in the right season. They seem sort of trendy/young student type looks, so don't bring boring basics or more mature styles that people over 35 may wear. She took an older printed t shirt, but not my nice solid camisole type tops or any long sleeved tops. She took a solid color cotton long skirt, but not the polka dots in bright colors...nor did they take a few cute sundresses with floral prints, so I think it is somewhat arbitrary what the person who looks at your stuff prefers herself. At least she was nice and not at all condescending, and I went with a "no problem if they say no" attitude. So check it out to shop or sell or both - it's a large store and there is a lot of other stuff on Shattuck to scope out.

While I think from time to time there are some good finds at Crossroads (I have been going there for about 5 years), 90 percent of the salesgirls in both of the Rockridge and Berkeley locations are consistently pretentious and snooty. Any interaction with them, from selling clothes to asking them to get items down from the wall, involves feeling like THEY are doing YOU an annoying favor. I have worked in customer service before, and I wonder if this store's management places any value on teaching their employees even the basics of smiling. Crossroads management should be ashamed of the cold and pretentious climate in their stores -- it's a used clothing store, for crying out loud, not Gucci.

We went to Crossroads to sell clothing that we no longer had the space to store in our home--if we only knew what a waste it would be, we would never have driven the 45 minutes it took to get there!

First of all, the parking was a nightmare. But to be honest, that was the least of our concerns. We hauled five trash bags stuffed with clothing into the store. No one said anything to us, and it took a good five minutes to get the attention of worker Allison, who snappily said nothing other than, "Sign in." There was no explanation of store policy, approximate waiting time, or any other greeting. We inquired as to approximately how long it would take to have our things looked through, and she simply replied, "When we're done with everyone else's." We had to practically open an interrogation to get her to give us a ballpark figure of time, and even then she was visibly irritated, and seemed to have, "Get out" written all over her face.

When she said it would be 45 minutes, we went across the street to pass the time at a bookstore. Upon returning, all our bags were still strewn in front of the countertop. It took yet another 5-10 minutes to get Allison's attention. This time, in a very insulting manner, she stated, "We called you, you weren't here. So you have to sign in again." We did, despite the fact that nowhere was it written that you had to be IN the store to have your things looked at--their web site states quite the contrary in many instances. That was a waste of 45 minutes! So again we waited.

Finally, after 15 more minutes of browsing aimlessly amongst the overpriced faux couture, we were "called" by Allison. She stated that she had browsed through two of our bags and, "I didn't like it, so I don't have to look at the rest." We were pretty surprised; that is, their guidelines on the site for selling had been followed to a T. Out of our five bags, just about everything was purchased in the past year, either from macy's or Forever 21 (items that they sell a lot from), were in mint condition, in style, AND in season. But no, Allison did not want to look through it. We kindly requested that she perhaps look through at least one of the other bags to make sure--we had, after all, driven almost an hour on our weekend to sell these things. This may as well have been asking her to wash our car, for all the happiness she had.

Yet another 10 minutes later, she had plopped all of our things out on the countertop, only to loudly proclaim, "I don't like it, so I don't have to look through any more of it." While we were there, we had seen her buy from other customers items that were in condition that was much less than on par with ours, and brands and styles that were outdated. Finally, we got our bags, hauled them back out to the car and left.

Overall, selling anything to that store is like pulling teeth. Allison, the employee we dealt with, was rude, snooty, and treated us as though we were the dirt on her cheap wood earrings. It was a miserable trip, and we would never go back simply because of the customer service. It was AWFUL. Not to mention the fact that Miss Allison seemed to take out a personal vendetta on us, refusing to purchase any mint condition DKNY, The Limited, Forever 21, Liz Claiborne, and other designer clothing. Their items for sale are WAY overpriced for what they are; if you want something similar just go to Forever 21. The clothes aren't used, and they're the same price and half the drive.

Bottom line? I wouldn't recommend this store to my worst enemy.

I had a complaint against a sales person in the Berkeley Crossroads location. There was an incident that happened that was totally unprofessional. I contacted the corporate office and spoke with Julie, a very helpful representative of the Bay Area locations. She explained that even though the sales person was following corporate policy, she might not have expressed herself very well. So Julie understood why I was offended.

I was able to express that the policy should be posted that so that when customers are approach about it they wont feel offended. Because someone actually called back regarding my complaint, and I felt that Julie really cared about my concerns, and was open to helpful suggestions - I feel so much better about my experience at Crossroads. So I am changing my negative rating to a positive. Thank you Julie!

If you need a bunch of clothes that are styled up to date then Crossroads Trading Company is the place you want to visit. My son is a photographer and in his studio has clothing for women that I purchased from Crossroads. Why buy new clothing when I can get them half or even more off the price new. They can't tell the difference. Just my .02 cents.

Crossroads has a great selection of used clothing. They make sure that they pick good quality clothing that's in style for the store. It's a great place to sell clothes, because you can get store credit for the things you sell. They are loocated on Shattuck in a great location and are easy to get to from BART.

The clothing styles are numerous and they don't claim to be vintage, they just claim to be used. The clothes are in every conceivable style and color, both men and womens clothing, small to extra large. Pants, skirts, shirts, shoes, bags, socks, jewelry. Staff is friendly and store is clean.

This is the best place in the city to sell your used apparel! They take both men's and women's apparel ranging from shirts and coats, to hats and purses. The money is not bad either--you will receive 35% of the current selling price for the stuff you brought in. They also have a decent selection of vintage pumps and sandles.
